“Highway Noise and booking snafu ruined our vacation.”
Reviewed 5 September 2011

Quaint cabins looked inviting but were right next to the highway and very noisy. Our cabin was a 3 night minumum on the web but we were told on arrival for our vacation we could only stay a single night! Apparently the online booking wasn't working correctly and it was too bad for us. The scoring in the review includes "service" but the only service they provide is handing you the keys. No one shows you the rental, where anything is or how to turn things on like the spa. Outside spa was missing control cover (no on/off, light, jets labeling).

The Online Reservation software developer was contacted as a 1 night booking should have been avoided through the software requiring the guest to call to make the reservation.

A confirmation email was sent to the guest at time of the online booking showing the booking was only for 1 night and the total price paid by the guest was also for 1 night only.

It was very unfortunate the guest booked one night only on a holiday weekend and their was no other vacant cabins to accomodate the guests.

This guest will be sent a complimentary stay should they choose to return.

Holiday weekends do have an extraordinary amount of traffick on Hwy 260 and sound does carry over fast distances in the mountain air.

We stayed in the "Stoney Creek" cabin. We found it to be quite comfortable and were not bothered by the closeness of other cabins. The cabin was well equipped and we were amazed at the wood everywhere. Floors, ceilings, walls, all clad in beautiful wood. Others have mentioned the nearness to the road but that was not an issue for us at all.

When one says the word 'cabin' a few things come to mind. First and foremost is seclusion. Don't expect any of that here. The property is home to 20-odd cabins which are entirely too close together, and no matter which one you choose there is no escaping the traffic noise from busy highway 260 that runs parallel to the property. One of the main selling points of this property is that some cabins have spa decks attached. None of these decks are particularly private, so others can watch while you and your cherished one toast your anniversary or birthday with a glass of bubbly. The second thing that comes to mind is rusticity. These cabins are fairly new and whatever rusticity there might be is entirely contrived. My next complaint is that none of the supplied furniture - at least in the "city slicker" cabin is very comfortable. The bed is average. The couch isn't good. There is a couch/bench on the front porch which doesn't even have back cushions so I had to commandeer some pillows from the closet to be able to sit and watch the clouds roll in. There is a metal mesh table and chairs on the front porch as well, which is the only dining table, but the chairs are comfortable for 20 minutes, tops. This is supposed to be a relaxing getaway, but I had a hard time feeling relaxed. My final complaint is the layout. You enter the unit in the living room/kitchen area, and the bedroom is off to the right (closer to the freeway noise) and the bathroom is off to the left, so when you get up in the night you have to walk through the living room to get to the bathroom.
Ok, those are the complaints. The good? The spa itself was great, with massaging jets for your back and feet. I did like having a generously sized porch to sit outside and just enjoy the nice weather, listen to the cicadas, and watch the rabbits in the morning. The place is immaculately clean. My only housekeeping issue was that the towels were still wet from being washed.
Oh - and one more issue - among the many rules that are sent along with your reservation confirmation is his gem: no firearms allowed. Come on, this is Arizona. I have been a licensed CCW holder here for 11 years. Every firearms owner i know is responible about safety to the point of obsession. This is a silly rule that I had no qualms about ignoring this rule.

City Slicker Cabin is not affiliated with the onsite Mogollon Resort Cabins Services reservations system or check in lobby at Mogollon Resort Cabins.

It is a privately owned cabin managed independently by and rented by the owner of that cabin.

Cabins were nice, but no privacy. We would get into the shallow hot tub and wave at both neighbors on either side. There was garbage all around the deck. I had to take a broom and sweep off all the spider webs and cob webs on the bench on the front porch and in the cabin (what is the $60 cleaning fee for???). We were supposedly in the woods, if you count being off the highway by 100 feet in the woods, you could hear every vehicle going by. The refrigerator leaked water all over within the fridge itself and you had to hold your breath when you opened the door as it stunk so bad. I reported it to the manager and nothing had been done with it prior to us leaving. When I went to use the BBQ, there was so much grease and other burnt stuff on the grills you could not BBQ anything unless you wrapped it in foil first. The maintenance man said that it was a quick turn over between renters and he had not got to it, I call BS on this, the grill had not been cleaned this year by the looks of it. Over all a bad experience.

Prior to reading this review, please note that we have contacted the owners and they were extremely apologetic and accommodating. We have stayed in another cabin in Bison Ranch (Bar S), that we absolutely LOVED, so it was a bit of a shock and a downer when we stayed at the Mogollon resort cabin. Although, we personally cannot recommend the “Bear Paw” Mogollon resort cabin, we do HIGHLY recommend giving them a try, the owners are fantastic and there are many more cabins to choose from to fit each persons needs. We will definitely rent from them again; just choose the cabin more wisely next time.

My husband, I and our 2 dogs stayed at the Bear Paw cabin over the 4th of July holiday (2011). First off, it is not all that private; the cabin is clustered in with several others, all facing each other, with only about 50 feet between them and you can hear the nearby traffic on 260. The first night we were there, we noticed a pungent, foul smell, only to notice that our cabin was a few feet away from the community trash dump, which was overflowing and was never dumped over the course of 4 days (our entire stay)! Also on the first night, I had a pair of pants ruined due to the wet paint along the stairs leading to the front door! There were no signs indicating that we should beware of wet paint. Moving to the inside, it was VERY clean and well kept. We brought all of our own food to prepare/cook during our stay and because we do this, I'm typically well prepared and bring a few of my own cookware items, utensils and spices from home and I'm so thankful I did, because had I not brought anything, it would have made it almost impossible to cook OR I would have been forced to go to the store to purchase any items I needed. This cabin was not very well stocked. There were no spices, not even a simple salt & pepper shaker. There were 2 pans,1 large pot and 2 prep bowls. There were several knives; however, there were no real serving spoons and only 1 small spatula.. The coffee maker was a joke, it took almost an hour to brew a pot of coffee, and then once you poured yourself a cup, you had to put it in the microwave to heat it up, as it was lukewarm at best. There were no dish towels and no dish rack. Plates, bowls, coffee mugs and glasses were provided. The refrigerator took almost 2 full days to cool down (freezer worked fine). However, you had to always make sure the fridge fully closed and each time you shut the freezer door, the fridge would pop open! Now, onto the bathroom, the towels provided, although there were plenty of them, they were paper thin, not what you would expect of a “luxury” cabin. We were given one tiny bar of hand soap, not to mention there was no hand soap in the kitchen, we used dish soap (brought from home) to wash our hands. Onto the rooms, the Queen bed in the master was like sleeping on a hard air mattress, so we tried out the pull out sofa and it was worse, so as a last ditch effort we tried out the twin beds in the loft, the comfort was much of the same, lacking! For the price ($200+ night), this “luxury” cabin was a HUGE disappoint! We will not be staying at the Mogollon resort cabins again.

With 115 degree days in the Phoenix area my husband and I longed for a near by and cool getaway. After much research we made reservations for the Eagles Nest cabin at the Mogollon Resort Cabins a little over 2 hours out of Phoenix.

When we arrived the gentleman in the office was as nice as he could be. He went over a map of the area, things to do and where to eat and shop. He then had us follow him to the cabin and showed us how everything in the cabin worked and gave us some tips on spotting elk.

The cabin was cute, appeared very clean, smelled great and was decorated in appropriate country bear theme. This particular cabin had one bathroom, a loft with two twin beds and a master bedroom. It had a decent sized patio out front with seating and tables and a small one off the master bedroom with no seating. There is a grill in front of the cabin. We could see the cabins around us but they were far enough away to give us privacy. Some cabins were very close together and we picked this one specifically because of its distance from other cabins.

The area is very beautiful and the town has nice feel to it. There are several dining options and gift shops. There are a lot of areas to hike, fish and just relax amongst the pine trees.

We really enjoyed our stay and the staff is really nice and helpful. They seem to genuinely care about giving their guests a good experience. The cabin was REALLY clean except for a couple of cooking utensils which I suspect a previous guest put back in with the clean ones. The outdoor grill was nice but we did have to take a broom and remove the spider webs that were all over it before use which considering we were in the woods was not a big deal.

Mogollon Resort Cabins definitely delivered. We got out of the heat, had a great outdoor experience and found the people of Heber-Overgaard to be very friendly and hospitable. I highly recommend!
