There are so many different trails to choose from. The trails are definitely for beginners, but you could choose so many different distances. Enjoyed the scenery.

Driving through the park was a very nice way to see the desert landscape and also great views of Phoenix.

South Mountain Park is easily accessed from Phoenix. In the park we took the 5.5 mile scenic drive to Dobbins Lookout which provided great views over downtown Phoenix. We then hiked the National Trail to Fat Mans Pass in Hidden Valley, well worth the hike.

The drive up South Mountain is disquieting due to sharing the road with bicyclists. Just like any mountain road there is one lane up and one lane down. Both are narrow and there are many switchbacks. I was fearful that I would come across a bicyclist rounding the tight switchbacks.

The view from the top is beautiful. You see the entire city of Phoenix laid out in front of you with the mountains circling it. Lovely!

Dobbins Point in South Mountain Park provided wonderful views in all directions. We could see Phoenix and Tempe skylines, check out native plants, view Camelback Mountain. Definitely worth a drive or hike up the mountain!
