“Just Average, But Sometimes Average Is "Good Enough"”
Reviewed 24 March 2014

Just returned from Phoenix. Every part of the trip was expensive from the flight, to the rental car, to the hotel. It's "peak season" in Phoenix, and everyone knows it.

Got into this hotel @ $92, and ordinarily would expect quite a lot for a $100 (with tax) hotel room.
But the good hotels are $170, and the great ones are $270-$350...so sometimes you just get by.

Rooms are spacious. Staff is friendly. Housekeeping in the public and private parts of the property leave a lot to be desired.

Room Tip: this hotel accepts pets (read dogs)..and some of them are large dogs) Pool can be a bit noisy.Cleanl...

If you are like me you only stay in motels for a good night's sleep while traveling and paying $100 or more is a real waste of $. Hey for the $20-$40 difference you can buy a nice dinner, 6 pack of cevesa, and a cheap bottle of wine. This hotel is a good one.....

As a touring musician, I see my fair share of hotels. My stay here was exceptionally pleasant due to the fellas at the front desk, Sam and Mike. After booking our room through Priceline, we hit a couple of snags upon checking. These two guys made the proper adjustments to our booking and did it while being extremely helpful and friendly.

Stayed here on a short business trip. Grand Canyon university campus was close. Enjoyed my stay, breakfast and rooms were nice. Pool and spa were relaxing. Spacious rooms and comfortable beds. I already made our returning reservation. See you soon.

This is not the quality inn I stayed at. I stayed at the one at 9455 N Black Canyon Hwy, up the road from this one. Sam the manager is the absolute best I have ever dealt with. He was helpful in every way, from cutting us a great rate (at one time we had 12 rooms booked) to stocking the kitchens with dishes (as those are not always stocked) to extending our stay when needed, even when it meant he lost money because he could have sold the room for much more during Spring Training. The beds are great, the place is clean, the entire staff go above and beyond to help in any way....Great Hotel.

Stayed in king suite on third floor for 3 days. Overall very good experience. Bed huge and super comfortable. Clean and bright. Two LCD TVs with kitchenette, sofa with sofabed, microwave, mini fridge, and balcony with pool view (entrance from bedroom and living room). Dresser had some chips at base....OMG. Minus 1000 points. Really? No big deal. Complimentary shuttle to and from airport. Hotel shuttle to downtown. Staff except one jerk all very nice. Located near CVS, Thai place, and fastfood restaurants. Free breakfast with waffles, cereal, juice, etc. I've stayed at 5 star places that dont feel as nice. Free, strong Wifi for streaming. Some of the negative reviews I see are unreasonable. Its a Quality Inn! Above average. Would repeat.

We stayed here 3 nights while attending Spring Training baseball in the valley.
Getting to this motel is a little daunting, especially since it sits RIGHT OFF the southbound exit of I-17 on a ONE WAY road. So if you are coming from the west you have to be creative to find your way to the parking lot. Review your map/GPS before coming here, though.
ISSUES:

The room is dated, as are the furnishings. The TVs were old tube type and certainly need replacing. The room is in need of upgrade (this is a Quality Inn, right) as the furnishings and bathroom decor is a couple of decades old. The phone looks like it was through a war, cord all stretched and mangled. Carpet is old and stained, the bed cover had a cigarette burn hole in it, etc. One of the lamps near the bed wouldn't turn on, upon further investigation it looked like someone tried to remove the lamp and pulled the socket out...this was reported to the desk and repaired the next day. I was a bit concerned about a shock and/or fire hazard with this.

ON THE FIRST DAY we arrived (5PM) and the line was out the door (apparently fully booked). There was only one person servicing the front desk. This was a very unfortunate decision by someone, it left a number of people in line grumbling. If you are going to be full you should make sure there is another person there, at least during check in. It took us 25 minutes to get to the front desk in order to check in. The front desk phone kept ringing and since there was only 1 person there, the caller was asked to hold on (the calls never did get answered all the time I was standing there).
ON THE SECOND DAY we woke up to realize there were no bath towels in the bathroom, had to take a trip to the front desk to grab some.
ON THE SECOND DAY we returned to the room at 5PM to find it had not been serviced yet, good thing I didn't have to go to sleep immediately. So I had to go to the desk and request the room be serviced. It happened quickly, but why wasn't it done earlier in the day?!?
ON THE LAST DAY we heard dripping in the bathroom, got up and looked to see water dripping from the ceiling...this was reported to the desk.

WHAT WENT RIGHT:
The desk staff was excellent the entire time, with the single person at the desk on day 1 to the 3 that were there the remaining days...all were eager to assist and correct issues.
The breakfast was ok for a Comfort Inn: eggs, bacon, biscuits and gravy, ready to make waffles, coffee, milk, juice, cereal, etc. was maintained fairly well during the breakfast period.

PERSONAL COMMENTS:
This location is self-identified as a Quality Inn and Suites. I can't accept that name badge, it is clearly a Comfort Inn. The name change must have happened recently because my GPS still shows it as "Comfort Inn - Phoenix". I would expect a little more at a Quality Inn and Suites. I rated it 'Average' based on the assumption this is a Comfort Inn, if I rated it against my standards for a Quality Inn and Suites it would be 'Below Average'.
The stay was comfortable while sleeping, fairly quiet if you have a room on the back side of the building (away from the freeway). The parking area was well lit and I felt safe while at the location even though this is not what I would call a safe part of town.
Free WiFi worked ok in the room, better in the breakfast area.

Room Tip: Rooms around back (opposite the freeway) are very quiet and there is lots of parking back there.
