“A Unique Phoenix gem!”

If you have any curiosity about musicians, musical instruments and music technology, this is the place to visit. Organized by geography, there are modern and ancient instruments from Asia, Africa, Europe, North and South America. When you arrive at the admittance desk, you will receive earphones. At each display, the earphones will play examples of the music produced by the instruments you are viewing. There are areas featuring jazz, blue grass and rock music. It's really ingenious! In addition, there are rooms in which you can practice playing various percussion and keyboard instruments. You can also view the lab where they clean, repair and restore instruments as they arrive for display. There is an acoustically perfect auditorium in which visiting musicians and groups perform. You can get on their e-mail list to learn who is performing and reserve seats. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and set aside at least four hours to tour the entire display. If you get hungry, there is a fine café featuring light lunch items, beer and wine.

“One of the best”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 October 2013

This is one of the most interesting, informative, and complete museums I've ever visited and that is scores. The building itself is beautiful and built from top quality materials. Access is simple and parking ample. The admision costs are well worth the value you receive from the tour. The guide headsets you receive as part of your admission are a tremendous asset in thje overall learning experience. If you are a music lover, allow all day to meander through the varied and large exhibit rooms. If you have young children there is an "Experience" room where than can bang, strum, and toot a variety of hands on exhibits. The Cafe onsite is more than adequate, and there are several nearby restaurants you may also enjoy, then re-enter that day with your admission receipt. Excellent friendly staff and roaming docents will enhance your overall experience.

“Be prepared to spend the day”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 October 2013

We had planned on spending an hour or two at this museum but we ended up changing plans and stayed for lunch and then back to the exhibits. It is the type of place that you can spend as much time on an exhibit as you want and then just stay and do it over! The headphones turn on the music and video as you stand in front of the screens. You will see instruments like you have never seen before and the music and dancing on the screens is just incredible. If you come back the next day, the admission is half off for the second day. Just plan a day and you will be glad you did.

“Concert was Great”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 October 2013

We did not get to tour the museum this trip as we were just attending a concert in their theater. The folks who worked the event were very helpful and everything was in order for our concert. We hope to return to the museum to enjoy all it has to offer in the future.
