“Love the Clarendon!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 March 2014

We stay here over every anniversary and love it! Gallo Blanco is delicious, the staff is amazingly friendly, the pool is super fun, and the rooms are nice with super comfy beds! We love hanging out on the rooftop, and enjoyed a yoga class in the morning. The location is great, right next to downtown Phoenix.

Thank you for the wonderful review... I really appreciate it when people get what we're trying to accomplish: a comfortable experience with quality products, great beds/linens, amazing service, great food, a rooftop and pool area that are really nice, and activities many days of the week... stay tuned for even more changes coming to The Clarendon - you'll be impressed with what we're doing!

Thanks,

The Clarendon hotel is a one of a kind experience. With all of the recent renovations the place looks amazing. Pool is great to lounge all day then head to the roof and enjoy the evening with a great view and drinks. I live in the valley but it is a great place for a staycation. Near the light rail so you easily hit up all the places to go in downtown. I tell all my family and friends to stay here. And Gallo Blanco has a fantastic menu. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Thanks Denny, at the front desk.

Here's the problem - you leave your room at 8am and return 5pm and it still hasn't been cleaned/bed not made. There isn't a lobby nice enough to hang. Had same problem at check in - waited 45 min. The 'boutique' aspect is its vintage retro feel but you need a lot of patience

Thank you for your review, though we always want guests to notify us to any issues while they are still on property - most of the time these issues are easily remedied and the resolution will exceed your expectations. Our front desk staff represents the best in the industry and they absolutely love to make our guests happy!

We're going to be adding additional furniture to the lobby (which features local artwork and a free photo kiosk). There are other wonderful spots to hang out instead of our lobby : watch an Arizona sunset on the rooftop SkyDeck, enjoy a drink or a meal at Gallo Blanco Cafe y Bar or relax poolside at our Oasis Pool and Cabanas. Wi - fi access is available throughout the entire hotel, so no need to feel tethered to your room or lobby!

Our apologies for the mixup in having your room freshened by housekeeping - whenever you stay at any property, just double check when you head out for the day you have removed your Do Not Disturb sign. Was the issue corrected as soon it was brought to our attention? We want you to be happy, always let us know what we can do to improve your stay!

We hope the next time you visit Phoenix, you'll give us another chance to "wow" you!

The Clarendon Hotel in Phoenix, AZ is a very nice place to stay. I spent two days in 2013 and enjoyed it immensely.
I liked the tidiness, safety and the pleasant décor. The staff was exceptional, all my requests were attended in a timely and friendly manner. They even went so far as to assist me in booking a shuttle seat to Tucson. I would stay at the hotel again.

Ordinarily I"d think that if you're going to include the word "spa" in the name of your hotel, you'd actually have a spa. Clarendon doesn't.

But since I'm not here (and I'm actually in my hotel room right now) for the spa, I thought it was worth a review since I'm considering a new hotel for the remainder of my vacation. To echo the others, I don't know how this place gets 4 stars - I would have given it 2.5 if we were allowed 1/2 stars. Their marketing team is great and I want to know who took the website photos because they're great - I want to stay at the hotel in the photos! But sadly that is not what you get in person. They push a "fabulous" skydeck deck, funky pool area and artsy scene - mostly accurate although the rooftop deck is sparse at best. The hotel room is all concrete walls and the "carpet" is really better suited for a grade school classroom. The bathroom is just plain strange: no shelf in the shower and good luck seeing anything because the all black shower is incredibly dark as the vanity light doesn't reach the shower. Best of luck seeing to shave ladies. The table was oddly placed next to the bed and I actually moved it to a strangely empty corner under the window. The bed is comfortable, which is probably this room's only saving grace. Yes we travelers notice when the dust ruffle is ripped and not tucked in properly. Sorry if that sounds picky, but judge the photo for yourself - is THAT worth almost $200 a night?

A quick note about the front desk people and the restaurant: high points of the hotel! Friendly staff and really tasty, albeit overpriced, food.

But then there is the noise. This establishment is not for the light sleeper nor for the person who wants to go to sleep at 10pm. Why? Because teenagers loiter in the lobby and drunkards, there are many, are allowed to conglomerate by the pool and in the front of the hotel until all hours of the night/morning. Ordinarily this isn't a big deal, but the layout of the building is constructed around the pool and if you're like me and get a room near the hotel entrance, well I sincerely hope you brought earplugs. If I hadn't already paid for my entire stay, I'd pony up the cash to stay at the W where I should have stayed in the first place. This is definitely the low point of my vacation.

Room Tip: Ask for a room far from the hotel entrance and as far away from the rooftop deck as possible.

We recently stayed at the Clarendon Hotel for a 5 day mini vacation. It was perfectly located to allow easy access to all of downtown Central Phoenix. The staff were amazingly friendly and helpful at all times. The bed and the sheets were so comfortable, we slept great. It was very quiet peaceful and had an all around excellent vibe. Would highly recommend! The restaurant located adjacent has incredible food as well!!

Thanks for the wonderful review... I'm glad that you liked the beds and linens... we spend about 300-400% more than most of our neighboring hotels on beds and linens... and every morning we hear from so many guests who say that they've had the best night's sleep in a long time. We strive to focus on the things that count... bed/linen quality, sleep quality, food quality, and providing an overall great experience for guests when they stay with us. You could stay in a boring chain where every little thing is absolutely perfect, but you're bored to death... or you can stay at The Clarendon where we might be working out a few issues, but the experience is awesome...

Thanks,

We stayed at the Clarendon for 2 nights in Sept before flying out to Denver. We originally booked the hotel because it had really good reviews, and it looked a bit different. Checking in, the hotel service was fantastic, couldnt fault it. They also have a snack bar behind the counter which is covered in the resort cost, which is nice.

The pool area looks really nice, but we found the pool area surrounding it wasnt very clean, with lots of left over towels and drinks etc.

The rooms were nice, but a little shabby in areas (Our safe was broken), they are also quite dark. (but this is nice at night because you can get a good nights sleep!)

Unfortunatley, the rooftop lounge was shut for our stay, so we were a little disappointed we did not get it see it.

The stand out feature of this hotel for us was the resturant (Gallo Blanco). It was absolutley incredible and we actually ate here both night sand once for breakfast! Amazing food.

Overall a nice hotel, with just a few minor issues.
