“Hip Not Hipster”
Reviewed 19 June 2014

This is a charming little bit of Phoenix with colorful characters and a mid-century modern feel. Get a cabana by the pool and have dinner at Gallo Blanco, the restaurant on the ground floor. They have great Arizona beers on tap at the bar and they make a mean guacamole. If you're a male, make sure to use the restroom by the lobby. The urinals are big ruby red lips, which is so plucking awesome I had to spread the word. The staff was very accommodating and there was live Flamenco music and dancing that had my friend's kid captivated all evening. This was a nice daycation, and I'm already planning a staycation here in August when some friends come to town.

The location, service and accommodations of this place was beyond phenomenal! Gallo Blanco has literally become my new favorite spot in the valley along with the rooftop and live music and pool. This place has amazing atmosphere and great friendly staff and beautiful rooms! I want to come back here a million more times! This next weekend, June 27th is mine and my honeys 1 year anniversary and I would love to stay here again and share our special day here!

If you're looking for a golf resort or a bunch of beige walls or a boring business center, skip it. If you're looking for a unique, character-filled experience in the heart of Phoenix with awesome policies & perks, plus a great pool, this is your place!

I staycationed here twice, most recently was over Father's day weekend. First great perk: 24 hour check in. It's almost like getting two stays for the price of one, and ensures plenty of time to enjoy both the evening and daytime scene. Second great perk: unlimited snacks/waters/sodas/otter pops from the front desk. I swear, I eat the rate's worth in Whatchamacalit bars alone within the first few hours. ;-)

Originally, the room I'd reserved had carpet that looked a little dingy. I didn't really care but wanted to make sure my guest would be satisfied, so I brought it to the attention of the staff, and Daniel(?) immediately found me an alternate room with brand new carpeting and upgraded me to a Deluxe room from a Jr. Suite. Our room had a great mattress, high thread count sheets, cool artwork, a couch and chair, desk area, robes, a coffee maker-- everything you'd get at any other 4 or 5 star place, but with that mid-century meets modern Central Phoenix charm.

Gallo Blanco -- Go here. Order food. Get the chilaquiles.

The pool & hot tub is my favorite part of this hotel. I love the water features, bright colorful tiles, daybeds, and jasmine vines climbing all four stories. Can get a little crowded on weekend afternoons (I think because of the pool-pass party crowd), but during the weekdays and mornings the scene is far more quiet, with smaller groups of friends, families, couples etc. There are servers taking food and drink orders that service the pool area.

The Sky Deck is really cool. Try to catch a Lunar Flow yoga class here with Sutra Midtown Yoga if you can; it's a phenomenal experience. If not, it's still an awesome setting for happy hour, live music, and enjoying the view of downtown.

I seriously love this place. They are always partnering with local businesses, artists/dancers/performers, sponsoring cool contests and giveaways, and overall their presence contributes very positively to the downtown area. I'd pick Clarendon over any of the budget chains or snobby scottsdale resorts, any day of the week.

Have stayed numerous times at The Clarendon. Walking distance from the light rail which will take you downtown. The pool is great to hang out and people watch. Great restaurant attached to the property Gallo Blanco as well as many places within walking or short driving distance.
