“Great place for families, kids”
Reviewed 3 May 2014

Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak Resort was a very nice place, away from downtown Phoenix, but probably not far enough out of the city for my liking. We stayed in one of the two-bedroom casitas, and if you can afford it, these are the nicest places on the hotel grounds--the main hotel, especially in spring, is just way too overcrowded. But the casitas--at least some of them, have their own little shared pool and a terrace.

Interior probably needs a little updating. But again, it's a family resort and thus, prone to a bit more wear and tear. It's also close to a highway, so you hear lots of traffic. Food at Rico's was great, and room service was also very accommodating. Bathrooms are a little small, my parents' TV in their room wasn't working, and despite having efficiency kitchens, they didn't have the usual amenities you would think, like dishes, coffee pot to make your own coffee (they do, however have the single cup coffee maker, but I asked for an old pot, and they brought it to me). Anyway, I would recommend this place for families with young kids, not couples or business travelers.

Room Tip: Splurge for a casita. You'll have more room and be away from the chaos of the main hotel.

Awesome room with living area at the entry door and bathroom in the middle and the bedroom in the back making it very quiet. Beautiful sitting areas throughout the hotel grounds that are quiet, shaded and comfortable. Staff friendly and helpful. Enjoyed the pools and can't wait to return.

Great location easy access to outdoor activities, hiking..easy drives to good restaurants. Fitness facility was one of the best I've experienced...great equipment and classes...my wife enjoyed the yoga. Fantastic pool facilities. If the noisy and crowded theme pool is your thing...probably best for young families...or try the numerous quiet pools scattered around the property. Ate breakfast here but next time wouldn't bother because there are great bakeries and neat foodie spots nearby.

Rooms had a great configuration...but a little tired...could use new carpet, furnishings and bathroom fixtures but were ok....if you spend a lot of time inside in Phoenix then ...you shouldnt.

Service was professional but impersonal...guess that comes with such a big facility.

Would definitely return...but maybe try the sister property as it has a golf course I believe.

Your favorable comments regarding our fitness center are appreciated. I'm happy to know you enjoyed your time with us. Thank you again for your feedback. We had a nice three night stay at the Pointe Hilton resort. The rooms were very clean and fairly well sound proofed. We asked for more shampoo and conditioner and the cute little cleaning ladies gave my son about 10 each. He does have long boy band hair and I think they thought he was cute. Any way , the pools are nice and the lazy river is corny but fun. Really beat up mini golf was free. Hiked the top of Squaw peak each day. Great location.

Room Tip: They do have early check in for a slight fee.

I travel to the Phoenix/Scottsdale area very frequently for business and have had the opportunity to stay at numerous hotels and resorts. Oftentimes, I bring out my wife and kids and I must say, the Hilton Squaw Peak Resort is without doubt, one of my top go to properties when I do!

Let's start with check in. Upon entering the lobby area, you are warmly greeted by the smiles of multiple bell staff who are only too eager to help and get your stay off to a great start! The lobby itself is beautiful, tastefully decorated for the flavor of the Phoenix area and is back-dropped by a large inviting pool. The front desk people are also wonderful, professional and get you checked in and on your way quickly without feeling rushed.

As a Hilton Diamond, I was given several breakfast vouchers for snacks, drinks or continental break items – all of which can be redeemed at the front convenience store. As a bonus, you can also pay a nominal fee to upgrade to a full buffet breakfast at Rico's, the local on-premise restaurant. For someone like myself who travels on both business and leisure, these vouchers offer the best flexibility. Need to grab something to go, no problem...want to sit down in a nice restaurant and have a custom omelet, you can do that too!

I have stayed here on many occasions, in both the main hotel suites as well as the wonderful Casitas that many reviewers have talked about. What can I say? These properties are huge! Large enough for a nice sized family to play 'house' in! The Casitas and larger properties have full sized fridges and microwaves which is perfect for those of us with babies or growing young kids. The sofas can be folded out into beds which is great for visiting friends who are only staying for part of your trip. The dining room tables are spacious and very useful since in these large rooms, you actually want to stay in to eat oftentimes! Some of the other reviewers have complained about the aging decor or furniture. I had no problems with this. As long as they're all clean, I'm good to go – and they were all spotless. The Casitas also have the additional benefits of having the covered car park right by the door. (Think otherwise of carrying all the groceries up multiple floors)

The bathrooms are plentiful (many properties have more than one!) and also very clean. The water pressure is strong and the towels soft and crisp white. One nice touch I like is how they provide Aloe gel since after spending so much time in this resort you're bound to get sun burned! (There are so many fun reasons to be outside in the Hilton Squaw Peak!)

This hotel redefines the word resort! It is basically a full fledged water park, day camp and hotel all rolled into one convenient package. The Canyon Ranch water park was the highlight of my family's stay at this hotel. It has several pools offering something for everyone. Want to be near a pool directly out in the sun? Check. Near a pool in partial of full shade? Check. Want to soak in large pool waterfalls? Also check! My family's favorite however has to be the Lazy Rivers. They literally have a man made river that snakes all around the water park where everyone casually floats around in large rubber tubes. Stay connected in a group or lounge in a tube with your favorite cocktail, I've seen it all! If that were not enough, they have a complete mini-golf course that looks like a lot of fun. (We were unable to try it since we ran out of time) They also have a full day camp (for a fee) that kids of all ages can attend. We got a superb glimpse of this when our kids participated in their full Easter Egg hunt! The coordinating staff were fantastic at running these events and my kids are still talking about how much fun they had! Sitting in on the hunts, I could tell the camp councilors were experienced and knew how to ensure the kids have a great time. This resort bustles with daily activities such as these so you and the family are certain not to be bored!
In any case, on our past trip, my family and I had such a good time at the Hilton Squaw Peak that I decided to take the rare action of complementing the front office director. The front office director was warm and friendly and came out after my requesting his presence. We had a great conversation and I relayed to him my best compliments and he promised to pass on my words with pride to his staff. What a great way to end a stay on a good note!

If you are looking to mix business with pleasure or are looking for a great vacation spot in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area, you won't be disappointed with the Hilton Squaw Peak resort!

Room Tip: If you are staying in the Casitas, it helps to have a car.

I have a teenage daughter and she loved this property. Lots of things to do for everyone. I especially liked the lazy river and the complimentary hour of play on the tennis courts every day! I would definitely return to this property. Didn't even realize there was a pool near our room right off the registration desk until the last day. Lots of pools and places to sit.

Room Tip: I stayed in regular room on ground floor - I like the outdoor space. i would like to check out the c...

The hotel staff are TOP NOTCH - very friendly and helpful. The Lazy River attraction is very big and had lots of great activities for kids & "kids at heart". The hotel is older but clean. I would come again.
