My boyfriend an I rented two solo kayaks for the day. It was a beautiful day with a high around 105 degrees in June. We wanted to go on a Thursday and the rental company, Prescott Outdoors, isn't (currently) open on Thursdays. I emailed the contact address on their website about two weeks ahead and they were able to make arrangements just for us (for an additional fee).
The lake itself is really neat. The rocks rise high and straight out of the water and it often feels like you've been transported to someplace exotic. We easily spent four hours paddling through the many coves and crannies of rocks. We even got out of the kayaks a couple times to climb around on rocks. We would have enjoyed another hour or two if we hadn't gotten sunburned (see recommendations below).
Recommendations: Take plenty of water and sunscreen. I can't stress either enough. Don't ignore the legs, they'll burn just as quickly as your arms and shoulders. There is absolutely no shade anywhere. For shoes, I recommend sandals that aren't flip flops. You want something that you don't mind to get wet. But you also something that will stay-put on your feet if you intend to get out at all. The rocks are rough and hard on bare feet.
Altogether an awesome day at one of the coolest lakes I've ever seen.
