The setting of this resort in Southern Arizona is beautiful, but the hotel definiteley needs some serious updating.Large empty vases would look so much better with some flowers in them. There are lots of cracks in the concrete walkways, although the resort was very clean including the rooms. The staff at check-in and in the restaurant was very friendly and helpful.
The food was ok and basically, so was everything else. It is a good value for the price and a convenient location to explore the wineries in the Elgin and Sonoita area.

Room Tip: We had a ground floor room in the "Sun" building with a great patio to watch the sunset.

We had a long, wonderful weekend at this beautiful resort. It has charm, and some of the most fantastic views of the southern mountains I've ever seen. Rooms are clean, and staff is professional, courteous, and ready to help. We spent afternoons in nearby Tubac, a colorful little town of gallerys, local artists, and delicious little restaurants. There is also nearby golf, hiking, and a ghost-town called Ruby.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms overlooking or nearby the pool, the views are beautiful.

The Esplendor Resort was once probably quite something. It has faded a bit in more ways than one. It is a bit down at the heel, although still comfortable. There is supposed to be a wireless network in all rooms, but the signal comes and goes so much that it is unworkable. You can get it in the lobby. The food in the bar and restaurant is OK. The staff are friendly and helpful.
The special rate for room plus golf at the country club is good. If only a little money were invested In the place!

The Web site depicts a beautiful Resort. However, when you arrive you start getting the idea that something is wrong when there really isn't any quests and staff around. When you get to your room it explains all. No bedspread on bed, or should I say concrete slap, AC unit sounded like a jack hammer, sink only gave cold water, refrigerator didn't work and best of all, phone didn't work to complain especially at midnight and it was to cold to hike the 400 yards back to main desk. Never again will I go there or any of their related hotels.

Rooms are decent; food is fair to good (breakfast is best meal of the day). Wireless didn't work in the hotel room, wasn't fixed over the 4 night stay. On the day of check-out, we were mysteriously locked out of our rooms at 10:30, even though check-out was noon - very annoying. Coffee and cups were not replenished daily even though there is a coffeemaker in the room. Gas heaters on the tavern patio were all out of order on the evenings we wanted to sit out and enjoy the night sky. Staff were overall friendly but not problem solvers !
We arrived late in the evening for check-in and there is no food available after 10PM! We had to travel 10 miles to Wendy's to get a late dinner.
Overall, very unimpressive...

The Esplendor is a classic, Spanish colonial style hotel in the high desert of Santa Cruz County, near the Arizona/Mexican border. Tastefully decorated rooms, excellent service, delightful food, and world-class golfing make this an ideal vacation getaway. I'm a local, but when my wife and I want a special get-away...this is where we go. The views are spectacular. The rates are surprisingly affordable for the very high quality. This is also a great place for meetings and conferences, having attended many here.

Beautiful hotel. I was recovering from a total knee replacement so we needed a handicap room, and were very pleased with the features that made it easier for me to get around. The room was very spacious, there were rails, and a seat in the bathtub. The deco was very pretty, and we had a small patio outside our room, which was nice for having our morning coffee. The grounds are very beautiful, lots of trees, and very well kept.

My only complaint was that the maid did not seem to want to leave coffee for the next morning. We were there 5 days, and had to call to ask for coffee twice. The front desk apologized and brought a LOT of coffee the 2nd time we called. The staff was very friendly.

We will defiantly be staying there again.
