I had a wonderful experience "Down by the River." Mike and Angie were great hosts and served gourmet type breakfasts. The room was spacious and comfortable and access to a patio and living room area truly gave a homey feeling. It was in a great location for a home base for day trips. Mike had suggestions for delicious dining in town and also had suggestions for sight seeing.

Room Tip: Each room has it's own theme so check out the website, but every room is large. Mike gave us a t...

We spent 2 nights here with very dear friends. Our experience was a 100% success. Mike and Angie are wonderful hosts, welcoming, personable and generous with themselves as well as with their gracious hospitality and amazing gourmet breakfasts. They have created a B&B with upscale ambience. Their furnishings of beautiful antiques and Southwestern memorabilia create a comfortable as well as interesting setting that is inviting and relaxing. We highly recommend Down By the River B&B. John and Cathy

I chose this B & B from the great pictures on their website. I stay pretty exclusively in B & B's when I travel, so I've come to understand that the pictures are usually a bit better than the reality. But this place was such a pleasant surprise. The rooms are so spacious and the attention to detail in the decorating is amazing. Every part of the house has something beautiful to admire. Mike and Angie couldn't have been better hosts. They were warm and welcoming and gave us great ideas about what to do in the area. Thanks to Mike's advise to visit Whitewater Draw, we were fortunate to see a female Great Horned Owl on her nest! This was a great trip with my grown-up daughter and I cannot wait to visit again for a romantic weekend with my guy.

Room Tip: We loved the Bird Room. Double Sinks definitely helped me and my daughter when getting ready to go...

I had the pleasure of staying here during the 2014 spring bird migration. After visiting nearby Kartchner Caverns [also wonderful] we arrived to a little oasis out in the middle of nowhere. The fact that we had to drive a bit on a gravel road made it all the better to enjoy this secluded jewel. Decorating is lots of fun with each guest room having its own theme, such as the prospector's room where I stayed. Tons of antiques and other collectibles abound both inside and out, each with a story to go along with it. Angie and Mike were delightful hosts, greeting us with a sweet homemade brownie that evening, then a delicious breakfast of seasonal fruit, quiche and a pecan French Toast Soufflé that was out of this world! Mike was great about recommending good birding sites and we got to see thousands of Sand Hill Cranes as congregated at the nearby Whitewater Draw Wildlife Area.

We spent two days there for our 35th anniversary and it couldn't have been better.Mike designed the house specifically for a B&B and it shows. The huge array of antiques and collectibles fills the home and Mike has a story for every piece.Food was prepared perfectly and presented beautifully. The river is a short walk away and teeming with wildlife. This really is a hidden jewel in Southern Az.

Room Tip: suggest you arrive during the day-nights are extremely tough to find house.

Mike and Angie are such wonderful hosts! We arrived in the late afternoon knowing we had dinner plans in Benson and needed time to settle and then travel the 30 minutes over to Benson - Mike greeted us in the drive way and quickly showed us inside since it was rather chilly and windy on this January day. After walking us through the main living space he took ample time to acquaint us with our room especially the use of the fireplace and after hours entry since we would likely be returning late that night. He offered us recommendations for sites and inquired about any dietary restrictions. In the morning we were greeted with fresh fruit smoothies and a lovely breakfast of french toast and egg cup that was simply amazing. When we returned after a day of sightseeing, the house was filled with a delicious smell - and with the menu posted for the morning, I knew we were in for a treat! The second morning was filled with another delicious smoothie and an incredible caramelized onion quiche/tart...my mouth waters just thinking about it. This is out of the way but on the way to so many things in SE Arizona...we really enjoyed the room, the amenities, the food and the views on the San Pedro were amazing. We are sure to go back on our next trip to SE Arizona!

Room Tip: Not sure there is a bad room...they are nicely separated from each other so you don't hear other...

We knew we found our getaway after driving over dirt roads, cattle crossings and through the cattle gate. The beautiful coral-coloured Spanish style B&B sprawled out before us as our hosts came out to welcome us. There are as many eclectic artifacts and plants outside as there are indoors. We chose the Mission room. I was delighted to discover the door that opened directly from our room to a private patio outside. Next morning, the sunshine and bird song beckoned us out with a cup of coffee prepared early. Mike and Angie are very helpful with information of the surrounding sights, and their healthy and huge breakfasts are to die for! As we left after the second morning, I actually did get a big hug from Mrs. Hug. Thanks Mike and Angie!
