What a relaxed place to stay at. Very friendly and good service. Nice back-yard with a picnic area, swimming pool, free WiFi. An authentic and genuine experience. Let the rooms be older than at the latest travelodge, the atmosphere and the warm welcome make it all worthwhile!

The air conditioner is very noisy and must be kept on to keep the room cool. Your wake-up call is at 4:30 am by the resident rooster. The pillows are the thinnest ones I've ever used. I thought the bed was comfortable, but my husband thought it was very hard. It is a basic room that was clean. Small but we only needed a place to sleep not hang out in. The swimming pool was not filled. I thought it would be since it is August and HOT.

Salome is midway between Wickenburg and Quartzsite, and you may be tempted to stay at Sheffler's Motel if you're tired and the sun is going down. But my advice is to suck it up and keep driving. The rooms are poorly maintained and dirty, the beds are nothing more than metal cots with thin mattresses, and the pink neon lights will shine into your room all night through the blinds that won't close. Some folks may call it nostalgic, but that only works if your definition of nostalgic is old, tired, and dirty. So drive on, or try to book a room at the hard-to-find Westward Motel.

After reading the mixed reviews on Sheffler's we decided to give it a shot. Salome was almost exactly halfway home making it the ideal stop over. Our party rented two rooms. Both were rundown and dirty, and both had large "water" bugs that skittered into hiding each time the light was turned on. The best thing about this place was the bar and grill across the street. We DEFINITELY wouldn't stay here again and we're not all that picky.

This motel is excellent for anybody traveling through Salome or staying for awhile. It is a little bit older which adds to the feeling of staying at the motel. Although it may be older it is still a comfortable place to stay. It is also made comfortable by the owners of the hotel, with excellent customer service. All in all, I would recommend this motel to anyone!

About 4 1/2 hours from the Grand Canyon sits a small, nostalgic hotel in Salome, AZ, off Route 60. It is the Sheffler's Hotel and it speaks of another time. SIXTY-THREE years ago (!!!), a young boy went on the first vacation of his life in a worn 1940 Ford with his relatives. They stopped at the Sheffler's Hotel. Years later, he immaculately restored that car and set off with a pal to recreate that road trip taken so long ago. We called the owners and relayed the story and made reservations. Even though they are not the original owners, he was welcomed like long-lost family. Moreover, they went out of their way to help us track down some information. The owners could not have been nicer and were one of the highlights of the trip. The room was very nice at an amazingly low price of $60. It was clean and had a nostalgic feel to it, as the hotel is about 70 yrs old. The restaurant/bar had burned down across the street, which was a shame-but they have relocated down the street. Sometimes, you can go back in time and Sheffler's Hotel is the perfect place to do so.

I have literally stayed at this motel over 100 times, while in Salome for business. It used to be the only place to stay for 60 miles. Either had to go on to Wickenburg or back to Blyth. I have stayed at numerous "rural" motels for business and this by far is the worst. I would come home with horror stories for my friends about my "Sheffler experience" and no one would believe me, they though I was obviously embellishing the story. . . until I documented it with photos. You had to put your boots on to walk on the carpet to the bathroom at night. Water pressure? You'll never get the soap out of your hair, expecially if you stay in the rooms farthest from the check in. I saw they gave someone a discount for their stellar review, I wouldn't stay there again for any discount, free room, or even if they paid me. The only reason they are rated 2nd best in Salome is because there is only 1 other motel. That motel unfortunately it only has 3 rooms and is almost always booked up. Believe me, if there were 100 motels it would be rated the 100th.

Room Tip: No matter how tired your are and tempting it is to stop, KEEP DRIVING.
