“*This* is a Four Seasons???”
Reviewed 23 October 2013 via mobile

Aside from a rather secluded locale in the boulders of the north Scottsdale desert, there was nothing memorable about my stay at this property. And it was most definitely not up to Four Seasons standards. If I didn't know the brand and had been dropped here blindfolded I would've guessed it was a JW marriott or perhaps even a Hyatt resort. Here's why... the decor and finish is tired and borderline thread bear. It feels very 1999. The room was painfully average, including a terribly rutted and sagging mattress. The towels were dingy and grey and almost thin. Carpets were stained. Patio furniture weathered and uncomfortable. Landscaping was unremarkable - nowhere near the caliber of the Phoenician. Food was very good, however, but honestly not memorable. The staff was the only part on par with the brand promise. I stayed on business and didn't pay, but Id be really upset if I were to have paid $400+ per night since there are far better options in the valley at this price point. Four Seasons needs to decide if they want this hotel in brand, or not. And do it fast since there's a lot of work to be done here for it to qualify.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of our resort following your stay.

We regret that our resort ambience was not to your satisfaction. Our design and décor was inspired by our indigenous setting in the high Sonoran Desert, with adobe-style architecture, Native American-influenced art and colors inspired by the desert in bloom. We often receive positive feedback about our sense of place and setting, as well as our service.

Thank you again for taking the time to share your feedback. We do hope you will return to any future Four Seasons Hotel and Resorts.

Sincerely,

Ben Shank

Four Seasons Scottsdale is a gorgeous resort. The landscaping is impeccable and interesting; we loved walking the grounds in the day and appreciating the cacti and plants and at night to the scent of burning juniper. Our room was beautiful and comfortable with great views of the surrounding mountains. But the reason we loved our stay is the friendly and attentive staff. Each and every person we met was helpful and generous with their time; we felt like they knew what we might need before we even thought of it. We will be remembering fondly these few days for a long time.

We spent the weekend at the Four Seasons Resort with our daughter and granddaughter. The warm welcome we received from the staff was most appreciated. Our room, a deluxe King, was lovely with an outside patio and large sitting room with a great bathroom, double sink, separate toilet and a shower with strong water pressure. The closet was huge!! We were in the 2500 building and there were two short flights of stairs to our room. There is an elevator, but it didn't go to our side of the building. However, someone can help take your bags to the room if you need assistance. There is also a golf cart with driver that can take you to and from your room if you prefer not to walk to the main building/spa/pool. Our room was extremely quiet which was a huge plus. We had some delightful meals at Proof. We had the breakfast buffet the first morning, but the second morning we preferred to order breakfast. We ate there one night and it was a great place for our seven-year-old granddaughter as she met other young children there and they enjoyed playing shuffleboard together. The atmosphere at Proof is very relaxed and can get noisy if you are sitting near a large group of people, but that can also be the beauty of it when you are traveling with children. The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating. Their hamburger with cheddar cheese, smoked ketchup mayo, bourbon molasses and deep fried bacon (a treat in itself) is not to be missed! We used the spa which is very nice and sat by the pool most of the day. The Kid's Camp is one of the best with lots to do to keep the young ones happy. There are daily activities for adults such as a spinning class and tai chi as well as various hikes. Indeed, there is something for everyone. A diamond in the rough - beauty amidst the sometimes desert harshness.

We've been going to this resort for over 12 years now, every time the resort is fresh, clean, and the service is outstanding! Lots to do here, local hiking, golf, pool and spa services. Great on site dining and many good local restaurants.

We had 4 nights here before setting off on a tour of the canyonlands (or not - but thats another thread!). Arrived late at night and transported to room by golf buggie did not see much - room was in one of the casitas upstairs, and a good size, with fire and verandah. Big bathroom with separate shower and toilet and one of the deepest most comfortable baths I have come across. Waking at dawn with jet lag we had a magical couple of hours discovering the empty grounds as the sun came up. The desert landscaping is stunning - weirdly alien but breath-taking, and what had seemed a long distance to our room by buggy turned out to only be a 5 min stroll. Service was good during our stay, especiaaly the concierge desk. We really enjoyed sunset cocktails on the bar verandeh watching the sun go down and the stars come out- with the ghostly night hawks swooping overhead. We breakfasted and ate a couple of times in 'Proof' and it was fine - but not memorable. Spa was expensive but very professional, and the pool service legendary - I have never been offered a sunglass cleaning service before!

This has to be one of the best places I've stayed... from the fantastic location nestled among the cactus and boulders of the Arizona desert; the delicious food; the friendly and personable service and the hotel facilities. The rooms are comfortable and very "typical" of the regional style. All in all a superb place to "get away from it all" for a few days!

Scottsdale is big. Nonetheless, most of the scottsdale hotels are somewhere in heavily populated parts of town. The Four Seasons, however, is on the fringe of the city and offer a more exclusive feel. Beautiful sunset and valley views from the lodge (and from the pricier rooms). Staff is wonderful and the front desk regularly greeted me by name as I walked by (amazing these days). Rooms are well maintained and somewhat larger than average. Food is average and the spa, although functional, is rather small and tired feeling (visit the nearby Boulders resort for a more posh spa experience). This is primarily a conference hotel and you will likely be surrounded by people wearing name tags. So, don't expect a sleepy, quiet resort. A car is strongly recommended (self park is free). Unfortunately, most of the better scottsdale restaurants and attractions are at least 20 minutes away by car. However, there are some interesting nearby hikes. The hotel is materially higher than the valley floor, so evenings can become rather cool once the sun sets. Bring a jacket if visiting outside of summer..

Room Tip: Discounted (e.g., conference rate) rooms generally face the hillside with no view, but considerable...
