“Nice Place...Need to work harder”
Reviewed 31 March 2011

We had a 2 BR suite and were happy with the accommodations. Traveling with two 13 year olds requires separate rooms, and renting two rooms gets expensive, so we were happy to find a 2 BR suite available that wasn't cost prohibitive. Comfy beds. Quiet nights. Nice pool. Great breakfasts. Good location (near Rockies spring training facility). The only real complaint is that the front desk staff was not overly helpful. We checked-in early and the room wasn't ready. Told to come back at 3 (normal check-in time) and the room still wasn't ready. Finally came back an hour later and it was ready. No apologies from the front desk. The people were functional, but not particularly welcoming. This would improve the impression of the hotel by 100%. A little effort goes a long way. I would stay here again because of the room, but I might look around because of the lack of effort by the front desk. If they were really friendly, I would definitely come back.

Love the Gainey Suites! This place is #1 on TripAdvisor for a reason. From the generous happy hour (free beer and wine!) and breakfast to the complimentary 5-mile radius shuttle, we were impressed. The rooms are comfortable, the grounds are clean and manicured, the location is nice, and the staff is very friendly. One of the owners was there daily, making sure his guests' needs were met, setting an example for his staff. We loved the fact that we could eat breakfast, grab a hot dog at the game and return to the hotel for a generous spread of hors d'ouvres and drinks in the evening. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. I have to admit, I laughed when I read an earlier review that compared the place to an assisted living facility...I made a similar remark to my husband when we were there. But we should be so lucky as to end up at a place this nice in our golden years! We will return!

Room Tip: The courtyard facing rooms are the best

We stayed at Gainey Suites for 4 days. The staff was very curtious and helpful. The pool was large, warm and you could always find a chair. The breakfast was fresh and convenient. We didn't use the spa or the work out facility, but heard good things about them. The room was very clean and quiet. The only criticism was that the internet slowed down in the evenings. The bandwidth needs to be improved.

My husband and I stayed here for 10nts. We booked a two bedroom suite with balcony. The accommadation was excellent. I was especially pleased with the facilities provided including the large fridge/freezer. What was very unusual for an american hotel was the complimentary breakfast and evening food. My husband and I thought there was a good choice both morning and evening including complimentary drinks which included wine, beer and soft drinks. The hotel is in a lovely location adjacent to the Gainey shops. There is a Paradise Bakery perfect for coffee, pastries, cakes, soups, salads and sandwiches. I can definetly recommend the cookies. I would have to say that the hotel is very well laid out and has a lovely friendly feel almost like being in your own home. The staff were always helpful and friendly. A special mention must go to the manager Rich Newman. Rich was one of the most friendly people my husband and I have ever met on our travels. It was because of Rich, his staff and the ambience of the hotel that made our stay so perfect.

Gainey Suites - Yes? No? Yes? No?Yes? No? ...

It was late February, the weather was lovely ,the pool was warm and as I moved my lounger for the fifth time that hour to catch the sun yet again I reflected on Gainey suites’ no. 1 ranking on Trip Adviser for Scottsdale. My thoughts were interrupted by , ”he’d only just retired when he walked to the bottom of his drive and was run over ....” and “her grand daughter was b...... feeding...”. The voices were drifting over from the annually returning ‘experienced’ holiday guests sitting round a patio table. At times it did feel like I imagine a care home might be, but they were lovely people and meeting up once again. Did I necessarily want to spend a holiday like this? But the room was quite large and well resourced , well cleaned and there was breakfast included!

I moved the sun lounger again, if only the shadows would stop interfering.
Ah breakfast, we’d stayed before at the Four Seasons and the Montelucia and the reviews for Gainey all said the breakfasts were excellent - did I dream that or do they really say that? Breakfast was basic but strangely OK but it did convince us to miss the evening wines and 'sloppy joes’.

Just got the sunbed right when aliens appeared, a group of 12 , 30ish yr. olds camped by, in, and on the poolside with sound box blaring and cans open. Confrontation potential , but the manager appeared and quite superbly handled the situation in everybodies best interests.

The sun went down and at the end of out stay we’d actually had a good time in a bizarre unlikely way.
Is Gainey the best in Scottsdale - absolutely not by some distance, but it does have a good position and a strange charm. It all depends on what your expectations are and what you want. Did we expect this or want it? No. But .................................

We've stayed here several times for biz and also for the ease of flying in and out of Sky Harbor. Our rooms are clean and fairly consistent over these past few years. Would absolutely stay again. Staff is generally pleasant / helpful and we love the option of a mini kitchen if we're too tired or have work deadlines and can't go out. Enjoy the fresh fruit at breakfast as well as a welcome break at the evening socials.
All in all a very good value.

Unless of course you are looking for a huge, valet park, super high end resort that charges big $$$$ for food and beverage. My husband and I have stayed at quite a few resorts in Scottsdale. We just returned from our second stay at Gainey Suites and it is still our favorite. It is not "luxurious," but if you are looking for immaculate, well appointed rooms with a complete kitchnette that has all the comforts of home, all the little bath amentities, nice fluffy towels and beautiful grounds that include a wonderful pool area and gorgeous patio, then you certainly will like Gainey Suites. I must also mention a very nice daily breakfast, Starbucks coffee and an evening reception that serves well enough to be a complete meal. The staff is outstanding;hardworking, friendly and very helpful.
