Troon monument is my favorite course in the Scottsdale area. It's a true desert mountain course with breathtaking vistas and abundance of wildlife you don't see in the city of Scottdale. The fairways are lush with numerous elevation changes and the course is set up to be playable for the higher handicap golfer while remaining challenging for the low handicapper. The greens are in great shape and aren't at all glassy like so many greens are by this time of year. They stagger tee times so that you aren't right on someone's heels, nor is anyone right on your heels throughout the round. My only complaint is the price...if you play the course when it is cool enough outside to really enjoy it, you're probably paying almost $200 per round. It's hard to justify more than once in a great while.
