“Something fun & different”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 April 2012

We booked a deal on Hotwire at the last minute and were given a room at the Saguaro. It's a cool place with bright colors and interesting things to look at, it's well done. The pool area is inviting and beautiful, I wish the weather had been warmer during out stay but we did manage to the enjoy the whirlpool.

Definitely check out the happy hour at Distrito, it's a bargain! There are numerous choices of yummy drinks and appetizers for $5. My only complaint would be the $14 parking, valet or self. I understand that's normal in a city but I thought it was a bit steep. The wi-fi was included however which was a nice surprise. I would definitely recommend.

We have stayed at this hotel under several incarnations, and this is the best one yet. We love the pool area, which makes you feel secluded even though you are in the heart of Old Town, so comfortable and relaxing, with umbrellas and cabana beds for those who like the shade. The Iron Chef restaurant on site, Distrito, serves up incredible Mexican fusion fare without pretension, and the Whiskey Bar is classy yet comfortable. The beds and pillows are luxurious. And best of all, the staff is happy and accommodating. They make you feel like they are glad you came.

We've been to Scottsdale many times as a family over the past 20 years but this was our first time at the newly renovated Saguaro. We loved the funky colors and decorations, very bright but not jarring. The staff was very pleasant and helpful, from the valets to the bartenders. We had a patio room on the first floor facing the "loud" pool and although music played throughout the day poolside, it did not start early and was turned off by the time we got back for the night. From reading the reviews, I had been warned about the loud air conditioning...and yes, it was loud but it was very effective in cooling the room. The bed was comfy, the flat screen tv was a nice touch and the bathroom was well stocked with a great shower (no pressure problems there). We were disappointed that there was no coffee-maker in the room, but was told by a senior staffer that they had listened to previous guest suggestions and would be putting individuatl coffee-makers in each room soon.
Was told the restaurant and bar were under the eye of Iron Chef Jose Garces but we didn't have a chance to eat there other than to try the duck-fat fries (yum) and the white sangria (another winner). I would love to try Distrito's fare the next time around.
The location is ideal, with the civic center and Old Town Scottsdale right outside the entrance and I wouldn't hesitate recommending this property to others.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the "quiet pool" are - well....quieter!

Second time back, and the Saguaro did not disappoint. Staff was as friendly as ever, and we enjoyed food/service at both Old Town Whiskey and Distrito. Rooms are good, beds are very comfortable. The location is fantastic...walking distance to mall and shops. Rapidly becoming my favorite place in Phoenix metro area.

We were staying only 1 night in Scottsdale and decided to take a chance via hotwire. We got a good deal and got the Saguaro Hotel. The check-in was easy and the staff were very helpful. The lobby was vibrant and looked like a great place to hang out. The hotel is walking distance to all the great restaurants and bars. We found the location awesome. The only issue we had was we got a room on the first floor (basement), the last room on the corner which was right off of the parking lot. Unfortunately this is probably why we got such a good deal on the room, it was definitely not the best room in the hotel. Since we were only staying 1 night, we did not request a different room. The room itself was ok, very clean with nice bath products and a good bed. Some low points were that the air conditioning was very loud and some of the paint was starting to chip off the walls and doors. I would stay here again, but would consider another room.

Room Tip: If staying longer than 1 night, check to make sure the room is acceptable.

Dear Maria M,

Thanks for your great feedback about our hotel. I was sorry to hear that your room experience was not wonderful. Many guests actually prefer the ground floor due to the larger walk-out patios (not basement as there is nothing below ground at the hotel) and lush landscaping that surrounds them. I hope on your next visit to Scottsdale you are able to stay with us a few more days, and I would be happy to select a room that fits more to your liking.

Thanks again for your feedback! We hope to see you soon!

I went to Scottsdale with my family this weekend and stayed at the saguaro. It was wonderful! Comfortable friendly atmosphere that felt hip but kid friendly at the same time. The food is outstanding and the staff in all areas were very accommodating.
Highly recommend.

My girlfriends and I decided to take a trip to Scottsdale for spring training and choose The Saguaro for it's convenient location to Scottsdale Stadium (Go Giants!) and fun-looking atmosphere. I'm happy to say that we were not disappointment! Upon arrival, we were greeted by very friendly and helpful valet staff. We were a couple hours early for check-in and decided to have lunch at Distrito while we waited. To our surprise, the front desk called while we were in the middle of lunch to inform us that our room was ready and we could check-in early. We spent quite a bit of time over the next couple days lounging at the pool, dining in the restaurant and enjoying drinks from the poolside bar were always helped by very attentive and friendly staff. The rooms were a bit small but very bright, cheerful and colorful. The location, staff, and amenities at this property really make it an awesome place to stay. We will all definitely be back!
