“Great Spring Training Location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 March 2014 via mobile

This is our second stay at the Saguaro while attending Spring Training. It you are a Giants fan, want a hotel close to the park, and like a funky, post-modern atmosphere, this is the place. Hip, but not pretentious.

We had a really big suite overlooking the "Calma Pool", i.e. adult/quiet pool, and it was perfect. There is another larger pool with full bar service, food and music, so if you want more of a party atmosphere you can wander over there.

The room was very comfortable, as was the bed. I loved the bright colors mixed with the old west leather furniture.

Restaurant Distrito, a Jose Garces restaurant is good. Food was very good and the service was quick and friendly but the kitchen doesn't always get the orders right. (Had a little breakfast mix- up). But still worth trying. Actually for breakfast I would walk 5 minutes and go to Daily Dose. Yummy!!!

If you are heading to Scottsdale this place is definitely worth a try!

Hello Darwins-Mom,

Thank you for your review on your recent stay!

I have to agree with you, if you are a Giants fan (or even just a Spring Training fan) the Saguaro is the place to be! Everything is within walking distance, the stadium, restaurants, bars, art, and shopping; what more could you ask for?!

Once again, we appreciate your review, and look forward to next year!

Sincerely,
Morgan K

Started off the trip with a bad note. Check in is at 4 and we arrived exactly at 4 after a long drive and found out our room wasn't ready yet and had to wait until they could finish cleaning even though we were told check in was at 4. Didn't get in our room until 20 minutes later and then we were not given the room we had booked. All the decor was very old and not modern except for the bathrooms. In the bathroom two of the doors wouldn't close and stay closed. The beds were comfy but extremely noisy and it was very hard to get a good nights sleep because of all the noise the hotel made. The shower also leaked and never would completely stay off. The pools and the restaurant were the only good thing there was about the hotel and for the price I would not stay here again or recommend to anyone.

Hello Nicole G,

We appreciate you reviewing your stay with us.

I apologize about your room not being ready at check-in; this is not a normal occurrence.

I am very surprised that you did not enjoy our rooms; we get many compliments on them. Each room exterior is accented by the color of a native desert flower, creating a visual spectrum throughout the resort grounds. Inside, your room’s primary color is joined by contemporary and natural furnishings in wood and leather, including hand-crafted pieces imported from Mexico.

We hope you give us another shot to turn your view around!

Sincerely,
Morgan K

Stayed here two nights for a Giants spring training getaway. I bought a prepaid stay a few months ago for $556 total for the two nights (City View King room), which included the daily resort fee. This detail is significant to my review.

As others have noted, the location is fantastic--an easy 10-minute walk to Scottsdale Stadium, right in the heart of Old Town for restaurants, bars, and such. HOWEVER, the Hilton Garden Inn and the Marriott Old Town Suites are about in the same location (more on this below).

The resort is nice and the staff are friendly. But the room is disappointing. It was cramped and uncomfortable, no drawers to unpack clothes, minimal counter space in the bathroom, uneven soft mattress, cheap scratchy towels and robes, thin walls with lots of noise. Our "view" from our "balcony" (no furniture & not big enough for any) was the parking lot.

So--if it's the location you want, I'd shop around. I got a good deal for this stay, but I'd be really unhappy if I'd paid more. We've stayed at the other two hotels I mentioned, and of the three, I much prefer the Marriott, which has spacious, comfortable two-room suites.

One tip: The happy hour at Distrito (the restaurant) is FANTASTIC. Outstanding street tacos (carnitas, mahi mahi, or chicken) for half the price they'd be on the menu at other times of the day. Good margaritas (but they're better at The Mission, a couple blocks away). (However, be warned that Distrito's service is slow and incompetent--we ate there twice and they kept messing up our orders.) Best of both worlds: Sleep at the Marriott, have happy hour at Distrito.

Hello Leftydana,

Thank you for taking some time out to write a review about your recent stay.

We have a very modern feel here at the Saguaro. Stamberg Aferiat + Associates, is a comprehensive design firm from New York who designed both our property in Scottsdale and in Palms Springs, along with many others. They defy the predictable by synthesizing form, light, color and context into clear and compelling experiences.

Though you might not have enjoyed our rooms, I do hope you are able to try out some of our other properties within Commune.

Sincerely,
Morgan K

The saguaro hotel was so much fun!! It's young and lively and close to lots of great restaurants.
We checked in after a long flight and had a nice time at the pool. Then Sarah at the front desk recommended The Mission restaurant which was very good. Then we hit the daily dose for breakfast (again, thanks to Sarah) and enjoyed another great meal. Then we checked out easily and headed for Sedona! This was a great start to our trip. Next time I would stay more than one night!

Room Tip: Something overlooking the pool area is nice!

Hello Ruth B,

Thank you for reviewing your recent stay with us, we sincerely appreciate it!

We are right in the middle of Old Town Scottsdale with hundreds of great restaurants to choose from; which can be overwhelming. Asking our team is the perfect idea in order to get the “here & now” in town! I will make sure to pass along your compliments to Sarah!

We hope you do return for more than one night next time and we hope you try Distrito, our restaurant on property owned by Iron Chef Jose Garces!

Sincerely,
Morgan K

This place boasts of "world class" service and qualities, but they are not even close to walking their talk. From the mismanagement our guests reservations and billing, to valet backing a guest's car into a tree, this hotel couldn't seem to handle the simplest parts of being a hotel. Even tho a request was put in to housekeeping - and confirmed - they never serviced our "honeymoon suite!" The restaurant and kitchen were constantly behind on food service, and even the general manager didn't seem to really care about the overall lack of quality and care his hotel puts out. One of our guests said she got treated better at a Comfort Inn. There are too many other properties in the cool Scottsdale area to risk your special event here.

We stayed here for a ladies reunion trip to cheer on the Giants during Spring Training. The hotel atmosphere sets the vacay vibe the second you step into the lobby. The restaurant Distrito is delicious and so is the cafe! Great central location, waking distance to the Scottsdale stadium and we also walked to great eats in old town. It was a blast taking golf carts around town. Aurora, Keith, Anthony and Zeke, thanks for the hospitality! We plan to make this a regular trip.

Hello Adventurefoodie03,

We appreciate your rave review about your stay with us!

Looks like you might be a foodie, hence you name. Fun like fact you might not have known, our restaurant, Distrito is actually owned but Iron Chef Jose Garces! The café, Garces Trading Company is too; no wonder it is so yummy!

We are super excited that this will become a regular trip, hope to see you soon!

Sincerely,
Morgan K.

Hotel cleanliness was poor and the view from the small room balcony was completely blocked by trees and bushes. As others have noted, the location is very close to a fantastic choice of shops, restaurants, etc. On check out we paid for the car parking and were told no other charges. On my return to the UK I find that they have charged for the room on the card I provided at check in for incidentals. The room had been prepaid so this was an obvious mistake. Requesting a refund proved challenging with unanswered emails, unreturned phone calls and a general lack of competence by various members of front desk staff to resolve THEIR mistake promptly. Definitely would not stay here again.
