“Excellent Location, Friendly Staff, all you need if you are in Old Scottsdale”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 June 2014

An extreme delight, as I booked this at the last minute on priceline express. You can't beat the price and location, along with the fact that this place is dog-friendly (one of the reasons I choose this getaway Scottsdale resort). If you want a different type of feel (think 60's blends into the 70's) type of room with a patio, comfortable bed, and a big clean room, you have found the right place, The Saguaro. It has two pools and seemed lively, even though I didn't go to the pools. The location was perfect walking distance within bars, shops, restaurants, museums and more.

Next to that, from the front desk to bell men, to room service, to the the valet, everyone here seemed very happy and happy to guide me to some "dog friendly" places; check out the AZ88 if you bring your pup with you. I couldn't have had a better time, as staff were professional, courteous and accommodating.

The next time you plan to have a getaway in Old Town Scottsdale, you might want to give the Saugaro a go, you may like what it has to offer, and again, you cannot beat the location!

Room Tip: Dog friendly, do check out AZ88, or the Daily Dose for breakfast right next door to the Saguro.

Hello Articfish,

Thank you for taking some time out to review your stay with us!

We do adore our four-legged friends here! They are even welcome on our patio at Distrito.
All in all, it sounds like you had a fabulous time. We hope you come back so you can enjoy our pools too!

Loved the location within walking distance of downtown Scottsdale and a short hop to the 101 which takes you around town. And they give you pink cruiser bicycles to ride! Gorgeous park in back. Coffee bar inside. Like the cheerfully painted stucco.

Room Tip: The building in back that's next to the park (can't remember the letter that identifies it).

Hello David F,

Thank you for reviewing your stay with us in Scottsdale!

I have to agree with you, we have the perfect location! We are located in the middle of Old Town Scottsdale, within walking distance to tons of restaurants, bars, shops, and even The Scottsdale Stadium where the San Francisco Giants play during spring training. And if you don’t want to walk, like you said, we have bicycles that are complementary for our guests to use!

David, thank you for staying with us and we hope to have you back soon!

Sincerely,
Morgan K

This was a great boutique hotel with a wonderful restaurant. The coffee is truly amazing to have in the morning. You can also buy the coffee from the coffee shop in the main lobby. The hotel restaurant is owned by Iron Chef Jose Garces. I had the eggs benedict and the chorizo sausage was awesome. In all, I think it was $20 for breakfast after tip.

The wireless here was pretty bad. I couldn't use Skype at all.

The pool and fitness center are some of the best I have seen at hotels in quite a while. I will certainly look to go back in the future.

Room Tip: I would try to stay on the upper floors if you can. There is less road noise from the higher floors.

Hello Tim M,

We appreciate you reviewing your recent stay with us!

Thank you for your wonderful comments. We are very lucky to have such a delightful restaurant on property. The Eggs Benedict with Chorizo is one of the most popular dishes on the menu!

I apologize about the wireless internet, we are in the process of getting new equipment to avoid bad connections like you experienced.

We hope to welcome you back on property again soon!

Sincerely,
Morgan K

May 2014 - First time at the Saguaro and what a hit. The staff is fantastic, the location could not have been better and the hotel backs up to the beautiful Civic Center Square, which is loaded with green lawns and fountains. The hotel provides free bicycles, cruiser style, we took an early morning ride along the canal. The rooms are clean and of average size, nothing spectacular but very functional, there are mini balconies, about 2 feet wide, enough to open the slider and step outside. The hotel is brightly colored with a very upbeat comfortable atmosphere. The pool and pool area was clean and good size. The only complaint we had was we were not allowed to bring in drinks to the pool area and the cost of the hotel cocktails at the pool was expensive. However, happy hour at their restaurant was well priced with delicious food. We would stay again, and again, and again.

I have stayed at this hotel when it was the Mondrian and it was amazing. I have recently moved to indianapolis and brought my boyfriend to Scottsdale to meet my parents and raved about this hotel, sadly it is like one reviewer said motel 6. Really bad. Room was so dirty pubic hair on the tolet seat, drain clogged and we smelled cig smoke all night the staff was great when we called and where moved to another room but I would not stay again... Not sure what's with the creepy old pictures on the wall either ... This hotel is sad and trying despritley to be apart of the Scottsdale culture yet it is very very far from that. Do yourself a favor and run to valley ho

It has been a few months since we stayed at The Saguaro, yet I felt a desire to give my opinion on this hotel. First, I agree with many reviewers in that I absolutely love the location in Old Town Scottsdale where we walked to restaurants, shops, art district, and even to Scottsdale Mall and along the canal waterfront. Secondly, I also cherish the mid-century modern design. Thirdly, I did like the grounds, pool areas, fire pit, and layout of the hotel. Staff and check-in was smooth. Parking area near our room was convenient.

Now, for what I didn't like.

1. Our bathroom door was on a track above the bathroom opening and it was so heavy to push the door I could hardly move it. Sometimes it got stuck on the floor track mechanism. Since I had a broken wrist it was difficult to open and close the bathroom door.

2. The noise from the hallways were amplified due to the concrete construction and concrete floors. So we heard people talking floors above and below us while there were going to and from their rooms. Also the doors closing was loud.

3. Our beds made weird noises when getting into and out of the beds. The noise was like old box springs or box springs and wood rubbing on each other.

4. Our building did not have an elevator so we did walk up the stairs to the second floor. This normally would not bother us except the property is pretty large so you end up walking far across to the main lobby. Plus we walked a couple of miles or more each day walking around Old Town Scottsdale and over to Camelback Road area.

Okay, we did get a great hotel package through an online website so our rate was phenomenal. However, we have traveled all over the world so we do compare our experiences from a 40 year time period of travels.

Hello TexasCatBird,

We appreciate you reviewing your stay with us, even though it was a few months ago.
Our location is quite amazing, right around all the shops, galleries, and restaurants.

On the other hand, we are actually in the process of replacing some of our beds to prevent that “weird noise” you heard. With our guests’ feedback, we try and take action to make each stay better than the last.

Though you may have much more of the world to explore, we hope welcome you here again!

Sincerely,
Morgan K
