“A wonderful surpise”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 March 2013 via mobile

We were just driving by and saw a building that look like a park setting and stopped to see what it was. This turned out to be a wonderful surprise and a delightful way to spend an early morning hour or two just strolling through the park. We were lucky enough to meet the garden manager for the City of Scottsdale and leaned that this was a water treatment facility with a 5 million gallon water tank under the park. What a great use a of space and water management.

If you want to see the desert landscape at it's very best, take the time and the stroll through this 5+ acre park. Maybe you'll get lucky like we did and meet the man who manages this delightful place, hats off to his exceptional effort.

“a fantastic bit of Sonoran beauty in Scottsdale”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 February 2013

We came here on January 28th, 2013 as a family with three young children. From where we were staying in Scottsdale, it was a bit of a walk (over a mile) but well worth it. Aside from being education about water conservation, this attraction is beautiful and free. It is a quiet respite of Sonoran beauty right in Scottsdale. We made a picnic of this and fed the kids some snacks and sat on the steps going up to the water treatment plant which is part of this garden and has some reall nice modern outdoor art that lends itself to the landscape.

“Xeriscape, Very Good Free Park”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 January 2013

We visited Xeriscape the day after visiting Desert Botanical Garden. Not a fair thing to do, because Desert Botanical is so fabulous. That said, for a free park, Xeriscape is very good. Quality signage, educational, an enjoyable moderate walk. Part of Chapparal Park, which is great urban park for walking, riding a bike, or exercising a dog. Tip: Use the parking lot at 5831 N. Hayden, beside the baseball fields, to access Xeriscape.

“Water Conservation for the Desert Habitat”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 April 2012

Park on the north side of Chapparal Park, near the dog fields, then head to the far east side of the park. Tour around the perimeter of the unique, world renown, water treatment facility. Notice the useful and artful steel/stone architecture, including tall beams and magnificent sliding doors. Water is conserved in a variety of ways: look for basins and how water is routed. Read the signs on kiosks and quotes under your feet for educational input on this garden. Head south to view the terraced gardens. Shade provided by canvass tarps and pulleys. Restrooms. An easy stroll for adults. Energetic children with techy chaperones might be interested in treasure hunting at the site via GPS/geocaching.
