El Dorado Scottsdale
Ranked #3 of 4 Scottsdale B&B and Inns
Reviewed 4 October 2013

We travel to the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale approximately every three months. We've stayed at more hotels than I can count. My husband found the El Dorado through Priceline and we tried it. We liked it immensely! It apparently used to be an apartment complex turned motel. It is decorated in retro style and has some murals on the outside walls that show their sense of humor. Amenities include: 24 hour access to pool and jacuzzi; gas grills for the guests, tvs outside (sports anyone?); very nice seating (outside). Our room had a tv in the living room, a separate bedroom with no tv; a dining area and full-sized kitchen with refrigerator, gas stove, microwave, sink and dishes. The bathroom had a tub and separate area for sink and vanity area. We paid about $160 for two nights including tax and state fees. We talked to them about booking with them directly and were told they would match the cheapest online price until the high season (winter).

Only problem is it is in south Scottsdale and the Mayo I usually go to is in far north Scottsdale. It's not far from the 101, though. It took us 30 minutes to drive to Mayo at around 6:00 am. But it was worth it. This will be our steady motel!

Room Tip: The rooms are not all the same. Talk to them about your needs.

Two night stay which included a room upgrade because my girlfriend's reservation through a third party had not been updated. We definitely appreciated the staff for that accommodation. Overall the suite was nice (believe it was the Sinatra suite). Good size kitchen and bedrooms. Bathroom adjacent to master bedroom appeared slightly outdated. Some electrical outlets were not working and the telephone line was also inoperative. Nice hot tub. Wanted to give a 4 star rating for the staff upgrading our room and being professional but the electrical issues warrants a 3 star in my opinion.

Very good location to arts community and restaurants. I loved the great vibe and wonderful two bedroom suite. The pool area is small but adequate and the fully equipped suites are fantastic. Bikes are available; upon trying to use them their was a fee; I decided to walk and upon returning was advised that they would let me use for free next time.

Room Tip: Not all rooms have been renovated with the cool vibe this resort has. Upon arrival the first suite...

El Dorado is a great place if you want to have fun with your friends or chill with your loved one. The staff is always nice, there's bikes you can ride around Old Town Scottsdale and not to mention the renovate rooms that are BEAUTIFUL! The location is great, close to bars and restaurants and at the same time in a nice and calm cul-de-sac. I love this place.

We stayed here for a few nights, price was great , staff very helpful and friendly!!! The rooms are really nice, they did a great job with this place, large rooms , full kitchen and everything you need. The pool area is really nice, lots of places to hang out, with grills and tv's outside. It is in a great location, and we would stay here anytime we go to Phoenix/Scottsdale area!!!!! 24 hour service is awesome too!!!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Frank Sinatra suite, it was awesome, I felt like I was in the 60's very cool

Found a great deal for a 2 night stay on travelzoo, so we booked for a romantic getaway. Really enjoyed the hotel! The staff was friendly and always seemed to be on hand to help out, clean up, etc. the room was a 1 bedroom suite with full kitchen. This is a former apartment complex, so the rooms are spacious and well laid out. We enjoyed and used the pool area quite a lot...great cabanas. The poolmis open 24 hours but even when guests took advantage of the late nights, sound was never a problem. The vibe is rather retro and you did feel transported back to the 50's. Good wifi connection and comfortable bedding. On the down side, old plumbing and air conditioning, so we had problems with flushing the toilet and it took almost 12 hours to bring the air down in the heat of Scottsdale in September. . We would, however, stay here again.

Room Tip: We were in room 204....if stairs are difficult for you, ask for a lower level. Just a short flight b...

Our family of four was visiting Scottsdale for the weekend and found this online. Price was great and was listed as a suite which was intriguing. As noted before it is at the end of a couldesac in what is an old apartment building converted into a boutique hotel. The room was incredibly spacious with two full bedrooms with king beds and two separate full showers/tubs. There was a kitchen with full size fridge, dining table and everything you would need to make dinner. The living room was spacious and I suspect the whole "room" was near 1000 square feet. There is a nice pool/spa with bbq outside and the grounds were done up nicely as well. This worked perfectly for us and was very close to everywhere we wanted to visit in Phoenix. The only down side is that you can tell it was converted from an apartment building and still looks a little dated despite obvious attempts to modernize it. I personally found it charming in a retro sort of way. They have a little café/coffee area that is open 24 hours as well. Service was excellent and they even gave me a 15% off coupon to come again. I would definitely stay here again as it beat the usual run of the mill chain hotels and, for the price with the room we got, it was great! Also, I did not notice any significant airplane noise as noted in other reviews...
