“Awful Food, even worse service!”

priced like prime but the food is so poor in quality. Service and manager are consistent with the reason this aging restaurant is empty nightly. Even a Groupon doesn't help as you would get a better meal at Denny's.

“Great Lounge Great Jazz”
Reviewed 13 July 2014 via mobile

Enjoyed having cocktails and listening to Delphine Cortez and Joel Robin in the lounge. Great atmosphere! The music was enjoyable for Jazz Lovers! Delphine nailed Nancy Wilson's"guess who I saw today"
The room was intimate and gave us the opportunity to chat with others and enjoy their company as well.
Blaise Lantana, celebrity radio Jazz show director of Kjzz joined us and delighted us with a few of her jazz favorites!
Great place!

“Restaurant from yesteryear with food and service to match”
Reviewed 12 July 2014

Bad experience all round lastnight. Never been before but went with friends who are members of their pampered club. In reflection the problem was mainly service focused with some very high priced food cooked of far below steak house quality. We sat for 15 mins with just water and then the drinks order was taken. When they came to refill the water we had to ask for some bread. It came fairly fast, but the bus boy that brought it had the butter on a plate next to his chest with the underside of his tie resting on top of the butter, having seen it, he just put it on the table and walked away. Orders taken our apostrophe arrived, a reasonable French onion soup almost as good as Mimi's, we had to ask for more bread and when that arrived we had to ask for more butter they didn't think that we would need both. The men both asked for more drinks, which they had to remind the waitress was still needed when she brought our entrees. The drinks were a sparkling water and a coke and her response took us back when she replied, I have to wait for the bar to provide it. Come on, 12 minutes for a bottle of water? Entrees, 1 crab and shrimp, reportedly 1lb of crab legs which equated to 1.5 ready split short legs and 3 mid size shrimp, no small fork provided to help remove the crab from the shell though, so my friend had to use her fingernails when we couldn't get anyone's attention to get a fork. Probably because the waitress, having heard ribeye when our friend clearly said burnt end of prime rib was back in the kitchen trying to sort out the screw up. That left 3 of us with our food and all the side dishes feeling that 'do we start without him' dilemma. My steak, was supposed to be a ribeye cooked medium, was a pale grey color outside with the tiniest of pink going grey in the middle, it was also tepid when it arrived. Honestly it felt like it had come out of a souvide bag and been tossed in the broiler at the last minute. The fat, of which ther was plenty, was not even cooked or crusted, which made for a gross look and a lot of inedible waste on the plate. This is the only cut of steak I really like and I do expect some fat, but I really think I was given a 1 inch thick piece of prime rib that was treated as a steak and for around 36 that was so wrong. The sides were ok, my friends liked the garlic mash, which was good since his redo on his steak took 10 mins and that is all he had to eat while waiting. I know it was 10 mins because I had asked for Grey Poupon mustard when she brought our meals and even though she came back to the table beside us and I had to remind her again I wanted mustard I didn't get it till she brought back our friends meal. The manager came up to the table after the server took away the incorrect steak and asked 'what's wrong with the food', he should have known, she obviously had said something to alert him. We found him a little defensive and at no stage did he apologize for their mistake, which we all commented on when he left. Then the check came, our friends had asked for the summer special, bygo, they took off the price for the cheapest 2 entrees, and the bill came in at 220 we were shocked. Upon closer examination they had added 20 service charge, over $40 which based on our experiences was not warranted or deserved. When we questioned it we were told it was 'mandatory' for that offer. So they took $55 off the bill for their summer offer and then charged us $44 to cover for it! We asked for the manager and I explained that we considered 20% was what was paid for extradonary service and based on our experience last night we did not consider our service experience warranted that! he was again defensive and highly reluctant to agree. Our friends and ourselves ended up paying over $101 each couple for a buy one get one 5 and Diner quality steak served by a could care less team and overseen by an arrogant, poorly trained in customer service manager. For that money, go to The a Capital Grill and have a wonderful meal. Especially now with their summer special of salad, a beautiful steak and desert fo $39. Let's say we've driven past Remmingtons for 29 years now and having eaten there, will continue to drive past for another 20 years!

“Dissapointing: Pretentious, overpriced, mediocre food....”
Reviewed 3 July 2014

Alas, Remington's used to have good food until they had to hire a new executive chef a couple years back who seems to have missed his calling which certainly isn't in the culinary world.

You might enjoy the pretense of fine dining that Remington's has retained with their French maitre d', but only if you've never been to a restaurant with truly good food like K-Pauls (Paul Prudhommes) in New Orleans, which owns no freezers because they bring in their food fresh daily, or to Cristos in Central Phoenix where the food is fresh, moderately priced, the cuisine true Italian. Or Ruths Chris, Scottsdale at Indian Bend, where you can have a really nice porterhouse or a melt-in-your mouth filet.

Our most-recent Remington's dining experience unfolded like this: After a half-hour wait, our very nice waitress brought my tuna, which was lukewarm on the outside and ice cold in the middle. Apparently they took it straight out of the refrigerator, warmed the outside then dredged it in some abominable mixture of peppercorns which pulled the moisture out of the flesh and stepped all over the wonderful flavor the fish should have had. The romaine lettuce in the Caesar salad was bitter, which means the lettuce was old, and my wife's filet mignon was less tender than the meat we buy at AJs (Lincoln and Scottsdale, 2 blocks south of the Plaza). To their credit, my son enjoyed his rack of lamb. Full bill with tip: let's just say somewhere north of $200.

A restaurant has three reasons for being: Food, service and atmosphere. If the food fails, as Remington's does, service and atmosphere are of no import.

“Old world classic...”
Reviewed 19 June 2014

This is one of the most underrated restaurant in Scottsdale, serving a high quality product, well-prepared. In the notorious SNOBSDALE, a lot of patrons are in the search of the next best thing as far as "dining"...and they overlooked this establishment...It is true that the building and dining room, patios even thou beautiful, could use a bit of freshening, but this is still a beautiful place. Under the management of the new dining-room manager IVO, the place has seen better service and more consistency. The food is quite conventional, but nevertheless delicious ! The beet salad is fresh and delicious, the crab cakes are superb and all their fish are top notch (my favorite being the sand dabs !!! Again, I will emphasize on the quality of food, wine list and drink menu, as well as the staff : no tattooed, pierced, shaggy homeless waiter in this very well-run establishment. In the age of "pseudo-fine dining", Remington's is still a solid classy place.
