I was in Phoenix for business and booked in for 2 nights midweek. I chose the Hotel Valley Ho because it had good reviews, and, being in the design business, I liked the idea that they had stayed true to the original design when they restored and renovated. I was upgraded to a poolside King room, which was a decison that was not thought through by the staff...
The first night was pleasant even though the room service meal was just OK.
The second night of my stay, I returned after 12 hours of business calls in 103 degree heat - looking forward to sitting outside my room by the pool - to find the pool had been covered for a raucous Hooters competiton complete with loudspeakers and loud music...and it was right outside my window. The heightened noise level was compounded by foul expressions of the guests and the entrant's companions. The experience was not to the taste of a tired business woman and I found it all quite dreadful.
Lucklily the hotel had a sister hotel they could transfer me to as there were no rooms available at the Ho away from the noise. The front desk staff was accommodating and the bellman who drove me over was gracious, which somewhat calmed the irritation of the inconvenience to an exhausted guest.

I joined my wife at the Valley Ho for business, and stayed through the weekend. We are in our mid-30's, so we're not the stuffy "you kids get off my lawn" types, but we're not the young partiers anymore, either.

That said, we're pretty tolerant people, but even we were grossed out by the scene around here on the weekend.

The Valley Ho is an impeccable, well preserved and updated example of modern 50's architecture. We actually chose this hotel based on its historic status and its design. The grounds were beautiful, the appointments were lush and hip, and we even thought that the service was very good. The weekdays were serene and relaxing. Then the 3 different wedding parties arrived.

Imagine MTV's Spring Break descending on a 4-star oasis. This place turned into a continuous frat party: the army of loud drunks, the DJ spinning music at double the usual volume, the flagrant sex acts in the jacuzzi, and the litter that was left in its wake. We were able to overlook it, mostly. We chose to avoid the pool when it was crowded, we went out and did things during the day. It didn't affect us much, but it is clear based on the other reviews that the hotel sees the dollar signs and looks the other way.

I still rate this hotel very highly, but if you want a completely relaxing experience, I'd stay during the week, and go to the Biltmore on the weekend.

Spent a weekend at the Hotel Valley Ho and felt completely relaxed, comfortable and waited on. Fantastic grounds, great food at Zuzu, as well as food & drink across the parking lot at Trader Vic's. The room was elegant and comfortable, with impeccable styling. Fantastic workout center, and the pool is beautiful. We don't often stay at resorts, since we tend to be out & about when we travel, but we felt great about just relaxing at the hotel as much as possible on our trip.
We highly recommend this place.

With a 1960s Jetson retro chic look combined with an homage to Frank Lloyd Wright, the Valley Ho is a stylish, fun and affordable place to stay in the resort laden environs of Scottsdale. Its Café Za Za has imaginative and tasty meals and the pool scene on a sunny day is peopled with a younger set who look good in their swim suits. During our stay it seemed that there were lots of “girls weekend out” groups staying there. And for the ultimate in 60s retro there is a Trader Vic’s, which we did not sample.

The rooms are spacious and well appointed in 60s style furnishings. All the rooms have huge tubs and a separate shower stall. The ones on the ground floor around the pool have rather unglamorous views of cinderblock walls and parking lots. Request a second floor unit or, better yet, the pool view rooms in the Tower.

The spa has a stark modern look and little in extra amenities. The steam room is on a timer, so it can be a bit nippy when you arrive. I did get one of the best ever massages from Robin. Be sure to ask for her.

The staff was cheerful and generally efficient.

A couple of warnings, we needed to leave early and requested a 5:30 am wake up call, which never happened. There was very little by way of apology. And, the Valley Ho can be noisy. With patios, balconies, a circular design and a lot of folks who like to stay up past 2am and chat outdoors, it doesn’t pay to be a very light sleeper.

All and all, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would stay there again if we wanted something that delivered value and style in Scottsdale. But bring an alarm clock.

I stayed here for one night with my brother and his girlfriend and we all loved it. The design is great, lots of primary colors. The rooms are pretty spacious with nice patios, they were very clean and had red flower toiletries in the bathrooms, which I love. The pool is great, comfy lounge chairs, attentive staff, and nothing around to block the sun til late in the day. We had breakfast at Cafe Zuzu and it was delish, I recommend the smoothies. I think you can park on the street leading into the hotel and avoid the $12 per night parking fee. Internet is free which is nice. I plan on coming back to the Valley Ho for a long weekend with my husband the next time we need some sunshine and pool time.

great hotel in the heart of Scottsdale. totally redone to give the cool 50's vibe. The rooms have a very unique layout with huge balconies. Great mood lighting that takes you back to that special era. The pool scene is great and the kitchen has great appetizers. Definitely recommended for the younger, hipper generation.

Amazing retro-place. Spent 3 nights. Key feature is hip design/decor throughout -- right out of the 50's and 60's. A bit of Hollywood and Palm Springs transported to AZ.

Beautiful grounds. Large lawns and gardens between buildings. Palm trees, beautiful flower gardens, and nice fountains. All but one building is 2-floors so there is lots of sun and sky. Contributes much to resort atmosphere. Huge pool area with many places to relax / sun / lounge / watch the stars. Cool fire pits here and there.

Our room on the Second floor had a great private balcony with table, chairs, and large lounge chair. Nice view of gardens and palm-tree-house effect. (Photos are different room on prior visit.)

Quiet and relaxing on week nights. Minimal street noise. Weekends were a bit noisier -- loud music carrying over from the pool and a few guest rooms made for a party atmosphere, but would have preferred more quiet.

Very clean rooms; excellent housekeeping. Lots of dark draperies to keep out AZ sun if you wanted to sleep late. Cool modern bathroom design with mood lighting. Good heating / cooling.

Good location. Great places to eat nearby and lots of art shops 2 blocks over. Just off the Scottsdale Free Trolly line.

Coffee pot in room, but no microwave or fridge. Was possible to jam a few small items to keep cold into the mini-bar fridge. Would have liked a small fridge.

Room service food good to excellent. Quick service once order was placed. They seemed to be silverware challenged; we needed to call back 3 of of 4 meals for missing settings, spoons, etc. Several times calling room service connected you to a message recorder, and they might or might not call you back.

We had requested a particular room we liked on a previous visit, but upon arrival there was no record of the request and the room was not available. They did offer us a choice of other rooms which were available at check in. Check-in staff were otherwise helpful, courteous, and efficient. Entire staff was helpful and welcoming.

Good internet connections -- both wired and wireless in room.

Suggest to avoid the valet parking and self-park at Trader Vic's. On previous stay was charged for Valet Parking even on days when car was never parked with them; found it was generally easier and faster to self-park.
