“Orange tree Golf Resort”
Reviewed 26 October 2013

The hotel was everything that we expected. The rooms were spacious, clean and the bed and pillows were comfortable. The staff was helpful and friendly. As titled the amenities were more geared toward golfing. the course looked well kept but we did not play the course. However we did use the pool and hot tub and it was nice. The whirlpool bath was a welcome amenity after a long day of hiking. The location was close to restaurants and an easy drive to Sedona. We would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: If you plan to use the pool, ask to be located by the pool.

My second stay at the Orange Tree and it was excellent as before. The property is beautiful and the accommodations are spacious, clean and affordable. Although the room was a long walk from parking it was never a problem as the weather was perfect for walking. The staff was friendly and helpful. I recommend this facility for couples and families.
My only complaint was new shower head installed to save water. Unfortunately they did not turn down the water pressure and it was too forceful to stay in for more than a few seconds. Hopefully management will address this small bother.

Room Tip: Unless you enjoy a ten minute walk try to stay in the 200 to 500 block.

This resort was very nice - well maintained, lovely large one bedroom units, right on the golf course. But the best thing about the resort was how very nice ALL the employees were with whom we interacted. Friendly, helpful..., one guy - Dave who helped us to our room - remembered our names even though he only saw us at the beginning and the end of our stay. Two words of warning.....the resort parking stops being convenient once you are in any building higher than 4 and be sure you don't go while the golf course is being reseeded - the week of 9/21 this year (when we were there). During reseeding the restaurant and bar are closed!! No big deal if you have a car, but would be a VERY big deal if you didn't. There are no restaurants within walking distance. Even if the restaurant/bar were open, you really need a car to enjoy Phoenix/Scottsdale.

Room Tip: Try to stay in buildings 1 through 4 to be close to your car. However, they have guys in golf carts...

A nearly good stay in the end.
The rooms are great, spacious and have many cool aspects about them. The beds are comfy in a shuttered-off section from the lounge, the bathrooms huge and the balcony/patio's - despite facing other balconies/patios - are great.
There is a bit of a walk from the rooms to the parking lot - as well as long walk to the swimming pool, if you happen to be in a room near the parking lot. But the resort offers rides on golf carts if that really upsets you.
The pool area was a bit uninviting and could do with a freshen up.
Plenty of game options available, as well as the golf - although the course is closed this time of year.

I read a lot of complaints about a lack of hot water in this place. It is true. We had to switch rooms after arriving - no hot water in the room AND the wifi was not working - a serious crime to this reviewer.

Josh - one of the drivers' was particularly helpful.

When booking ask for a room near the parking lot, if you will be making a lot of trips back and forth to your car - if you are staying for longer and will be more by the pool, then ask to be near there.

Room Tip: When you go to get ice, take your room keycard, you need it to operate the ice machine.

Everything about Orange Tree Golf Resort was wonderful! The staff was extremely friendly and the location was perfect. Make sure to utilize the concierge services. Barbara and Lindsey were so very helpful.

Room Tip: Make sure you educate yourself on the layout of the rooms. Many complain about having to walk so far...

I had the privilege of spending a week at this resort during the 2nd week of September. Temperatures in Scottsdale was approximately 102 degrees daily. We requested a one bedroom suite at unit 104. This was to our advantage as we was situated next to the main building and had ample parking that was readily available throughout the week. However, as you traveled down toward the other buildings, parking became limited particularly in the evenings when many would return to the resort. If you can be placed in building 1-3, that would be ideal.
The resort is a peaceful setting that is tree lined and quiet, particularly along the walkway to the suites. The pool area is located at the very end of pathway. Those that are staying in the lower buildings may request to be transported via golf cart. This resort is very hospitable as they are eager to take you anywhere on the grounds of the resort.
During our stay, the grounds crew was in the process of sodding grass in preparation of the fall wave of golfers which is expected to begin during the 2nd week of October. I had the opportunity to walk around the course. On the far end of the course, there are private homes that border the resort. Their backyards are exposed the the green with privacy fences that separate them from this property. These home look like that are in serious need of repair and/or upgrade. They do not contribute to the aesthetics of the resort and is personally an eye sore. With that being said, I feel that the greatest strength of this resort is it's suites which i found to be at least 8 out 10.
We found ourselves spending the majority of our time in our suite in the mornings and evenings. The king sized bed was extremely comfortable. My wife and I were convinced that we need a new mattress at home after this experience. The suite offered plenty of space for two although there was a pull out sofa bed in the living room area. Although there are doors to the bedroom to offer privacy, they are not insulated as you can hear others talking in the living room...this is a minor set back.
The kitchen is well equipped with new utensils, blender, china and glass bowls with lids. The kitchen counter is granite and the cabinets are made from a nice light cherry. Although there is no stove, the microwave oven was very handy...We brought food from COSTCO which is approximately 5 minutes away. Please go to the COSTCO located next to the Paradise Valley Mall instead of the location in Scottsdale. Everything is cheaper, including gas...3.21 a gallon as opposed to 3.40 + everywhere else.
The living room also has a 42 inch LCD television mounted to the wall for your viewing pleasure as well as HD channels and HBO. In addition, there is a DVD player. Please go to the front desk and request a movie list...they offer 2 courtesy movies each night per room..and yes, they are the latest DVD's released...nice touch. The bedroom television in my suite was a tiny flat screen...I believe that it was 18 inches, literally that was mounted in the corner of the bedroom...very difficult to view being that the screen was so small.
The bathroom was well appointed with granite counter tops, cherry cabinets, a sitting stool, huge walk in shower, and jacuzzi tub with views of the golf course. Nice touch...
There is plenty to do and eat in this area. We spent a day at Sedona (Red rock mountains) and the grand canyon. Instead of taking the tour, we decided to drive, and I am so glad that we did. Please do yourself a favor and gas up before you go. Prices for gas at the Canyon was a cheap as 4.10 a gallon. If you drive, you can stop in Sedona and leave for the canyon without having to be stuck with a tour that wastes time instead of moving to the next destination. One you are at the canyon, there are tour buses that take you to different locations at the south rim. Also the bus takes you to shopping in the park. The cost is 25 dollars per car...not expensive compared to the price of a tour from pheonix...Trip time is about 3.5 hours each way. We arrived back at 11PM.
Another cool place is Butterfly Wonderland in Scottsdale. My wife had to drag me into this place. Once inside, I was glad that I listened. I put my Nikon D-5000 to work and came out with some exceptionally brillant pictures. I also learned a lot about this flying beauty that I never knew. Take the wife and kids, you won't be disappointed.
There is a nice supermarket on Shea (the cross street that intersects with the resort) called FRY'S signature market. You must go into this place...absolutely fabulous! It reminds me of WEGMAN'S which is popular in the Northeast.
Also, I would like to mention that I was encouraged to take the time share presentation which was no pressure. In fact, we received a $125 American Express Card for attending...It lasted about 1.15 hour...not bad. We own alot of points so they could not give us anything that didn't already have.
Last but not least, I wanted to mention the promotion that the Resort offers at the Scottsdale Chart House. They made reservations for 2 for dinner for $50. Also, during happy hour, appetizers and drinks are $5. This was a tremendous deal as my wife was angry that we went at the end of our stay.
I would recommend this resort to those that want to stay in the Scottsdale area and want to be situated close enough to Paradise Valley and Phoenix without having to endure Scottsdale prices. I would certainly stay at this resort again in the future.

Room Tip: Try to secure a room in building 1 or 2...better parking and less walking.
