“Great Service - I would stay here again”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 November 2008

Spent a lovely 4 nights at the Marriott Suites. For those of you contemplating staying here but are worried about the ongoing renovations, worry no more - they are finished. With the rooms anyway - they are now working on the conference rooms on the main and 2nd floors and are scheduled to be done by the end of the November.

Looking at previous member photos, the renos have done this property good. The rooms have a very fresh, contemporary look and look amazing. Comfortable furniture and two large flat screen tvs in the room. The tv in the living space had a multimedia attachment where you could connect anything under the sun to the tv (laptop, dvd, game console etc etc). Good sized work desk. WiFi is not available in the rooms yet (but is coming we're told) but wired internet is available for $10/day (this price also includes all phone calls, long distance included). The front desk manager was in a generous mood when we checked in and waived the fee for our stay which obviously won them brownie points. Free underground parking and $15/day valet. Lots of free on-street parking as well if your vehicle is oversized.

Beds were very soft - I prefer a harder bed but it was still comfortable. Linens and stuff were top notch. The iHome clock radio had an iPod connector and allowed you to wake up to your iPod which I really liked. Huge bathroom with a separate shower and tub. The bathroom was the only bad point of our stay, and is what kept the hotel from getting a 5 star rating from me. Hot water, or lack of, was a constant issue. I don't know if it was our room location (5th floor in the corner) or what but hot water always took forever to get to our taps, especially at night. We would take a shower, with the taps on full hot (and the water would be just warm) - then 5 minutes into the shower you would get scalded when the super hot water arrived. Not a show stopper as once we knew it took that long for hot water to arrive, we adjusted but it's something I have never encountered at a large hotel.

We ate in the restaurant once for dinner (arrival day; was tired and didn't feel like looking for a place to eat) and a couple times for breakfast. To our surprise the prices were very reasonable (with the exception of the $20 breakfast buffet which was way overpriced for what you got). Food was pretty good for hotel grub. Service was always excellent, especially in the bar. Yes - there are lots of good restaurants around the hotel but the hotel restaurant offered convenience at a reasonable price.

One of the things I judge a hotel by is the problems encountered. Not by what problems we encounter because mistakes happen but by how the hotel handles those problems. The Marriott was exemplary in that aspect. We had a few small problems but all were handled within minutes with many apologies. The 'highlight' per se was our toilet. It wouldn't shut off and by morning had developed a small leak. On our way out we let the front desk know - again many apologies and a promise it would be looked after. We returned to our room a couple hours later to find that a brand new toilet had been installed! Now that's service!!

A final note which isn't really related to the hotel itself but more the area - if you are a really light sleeper, you may want to reconsider staying in Old Scottsdale. This is a vibrant area surrounded by bars and restaurants - it can get loud on the streets. It didn't bother me because I'm a deep sleeper but I can see light sleepers having issues. Having said that - the hotel location is fantastic. Steps away from all the shops and restaurants in Old Scottsdale. A 10 minute walk to the Fashion Mall. Airport is an easy 15 minute drive away (non-rush hour)

In all, we were very happy staying here and would do it again easily. Especially at $127/night (via the Marriott website).

We selected this hotel based on the ratings at tripadvisor. We arrived and thought it would be like a typical Marriott with someone to take your bags and park your car. Wrong! Maybe we should have read the description of the hotel a bit more carefully.

When we checked in there was a young lady at the desk who was not friendly at all and seemed like she was very bored and wanted to leave work. She told us the property was being renovated and we might hear noise.!! When I asked how much noise she just said banging. She also gave us a room on a lower floor and when I told her that we booked a room on the top floor she seemed perturbed but then reassigned our room when I showed my reservation print out. As it was our first trip to AZ we did not know the area and she did not offer up any info. Later after we settled into our room we came back down to the lobby and noticed other guests checking in with someone else behind the desk and they were offered maps with detailed instructions on where the local attractions were.

Other than that, the hotel was only ok. It is located in the middle of an office park...kind of strange and desolate at night. It is within walking distance to Scottsdale Old Town. The rooms are somewhat generic and plain but adequate and probably an ok value for the price.

I think that I'd rather pay a bit more and stay at the westin or at gainey ranch.

We stayed in the hotel September 18-22nd. The hotel is in the middle of being renovated but believe it or not, it did not interfere with our stay. No early morning hammering, drilling, carts in the hall...nothing. It was happening, but we were not disturbed. This hotel is approaching this remodel from a customer perspective. Finally! We were on the 5th floor overlooking the pool. The suite was nicely appointed. Great bed and linens, large flat screen in bedroom and living room, nicely set-up bathroom and very polite staff. No mini bar. Instead, they provide a refrigerator and a wet bar area which helps if you don't like to eat in restaurants every meal every day. The hotel is also very conveniently located. Fry's supermarket, CVS, Old Town and Down Town are all within a few minutes walk from the hotel. The hotel is obviously maintained, clean and quiet. Despite having stayed in MANY hotels, some considered much more exclusive, all around the world, this has to be one of the best hotel stays we have ever had. We highly recommend. One side note, not related to the hotel. The challah French Toast at The Breakfast Club is yummy! 5 minute walk from the hotel.

The hotel's location is too good to be true. Walking distance to all lot of restaurants. The Scottsdale Fashion Square is nearby.

The guest suite was clean and spacious. The bed was as usual very comfortable. The staff at the front desk were very friendly and accommodating.

The hotel is currently under renovation, but the noise did not bother us at all. We will definitely stay at this hotel again.

Booked the hotel as a two-night package over Memorial Day weekend and the price came out to about $149 per night.

Location: Central Scottsdale, right off Scottsdale Road. Turn at the See's candy shop and you will see the hotel on the right. Parking is free in an underground garage. The spaces are a bit tight, so if you have a large SUV, you may want to try and score one of the few above ground spots.

You are a short walk from just about everything. Two blocks from the 5th avenue shops and a few more minutes on foot to Scottsdale Fashion Square Mall.

Check in: Reasonably quick. If you are at least Silver Level in Marriott Rewards, they give you a coupon for one free day of internet access. I believe its $10 per day otherwise.

Room: Since this is a suite hotel you get a separate bedroom and living area. Very clean and comfortable. The AC was good and kept the room cool even in the Phoenix heat. Not much of a kitchen if that's what you are used to in a suite. Small fridge and sink. No silverware. But the bar was nice enough to lend us a set to eat dinner. TVs in each room. Weak channel selection.

Cannot comment on food service there. There are too many great restaurants in Scottsdale to eat hotel food. But the bar service was good with a decent selection of draft beer and wine.

Check out: Bit of a problem there. I had some Marriott bonus bucks from a prior promotion and it was like pulling teeth to get them to accept it to pay for my bar tab. Finally got that squared away but it was a bit irritating.

Overall the hotel is quite nice and the price was great for the location. Staying in Scottsdale for business I have paid over $300 for rooms that were of comparable quality. The only thing to note is that if you are expecting a more elaborate suite in terms of kitchen and dining facilities, that's not what you get here. So don't be disappointed. But if you expect a hotel room, its very spacious and comfortable.

My boyfriend and I decided to stay here because of its close proximity to Old Town and the cheap price. It was a very comfortable room, the staff was kind, and the pool was well kept - the servers at the pool were very friendly. All in all, this is a great place to stay whether for business or pleasure, as it is well maintained but not over the top.

Stayed there for a couple of nights for a short getaway.

Very convenient location. Easy walking distance to Old Town Scottsdale (IMO, there's not much there, lots of touristy shops)

However stop by the Sugar Bowl Ice Cream Parlor in Old Town for a good old fashioned Ice Cream Parlor experience

In Old Town, try Grimaldi's Pizzeria, a unique coal fired pizza, it was one of the best pizza's we have had!

Hotel was comfortable, room we had was nice, comfortable bed, and clean. Outdoor pool was nice to cool off in the afternoon sun

Golf, I golfed at their sister property JW Mariott Camelback, they offered a discount when we stayed, very nice course.

Front Desk staff were very helpful and friendly. Very willing to recommend a number of walking distance restaurant, make tee time reservations, and generally greeted us every time we came walked by.

Scottsdale Fashion Square has lots of mid to high end shops for the shoppers in you, and within walking distances

Airport a very short drive away (about 10-15 minutes )
