“Great family location”
Reviewed 23 March 2014

We stayed at the Fairmont for Spring Training. We were warmly welcomed by the both the valet and front desk. The front desk manager (Tim Falk) was especially helpful to us during our stay.
We stayed in a one-bedroom suite with a pull-out sofa for the kids. The suite had a fridge, which is great when you're traveling with children, as well a walk-in closet. We loved our patio and enjoyed breakfast out there almost daily. The room service food didn't blow us away, but the service was impeccable.
The kids enjoyed the Trailblazers kids' center very much. Our daughter really loved the behind-the-scenes tour of the hotel. While our children were at Trailblazers, my wife and I took a long run (the front desk can suggest trails), then enjoyed massages at their beautiful spa. They do run specials, so be sure to ask.
We dined at the Hacienda restaurant one evening, and the food as outstanding. The only place we found the service lacking was around the pool, where the servers are hard to find. However, we ended up renting a cabana one day, and our dedicated server was great. The water slides were also a huge hit with the kids.
While the hotel is very expensive, the service is truly outstanding, and we hope to visit again.

Room Tip: The pool is open 24 hours a day, so if you face the pool you may experience some noise.

Dear Modmodernist,

Thank you for visiting during Spring Training! We are happy that Fairmont Scottsdale was a fun and relaxing backdrop for your family getaway. Our Trailblazers Family Adventure Center is ideal for families, as kids can enjoy their day and parents can have some time together as well. It sounds like you struck the perfect balance, also visiting the spa and La Hacienda.

We believe our colleagues are some of the best in the business, so we are pleased to hear your service overall was top notch. We also appreciate you sharing your feedback regarding the pools.

If you’re planning a family vacation this summer, we will have a zipline, new SplashRider X-treme water ride and fireworks, weekends Memorial Day through Labor Day. We look forward to welcoming you back for more fun again soon!

Sincerely,

Valerie Lee

The resort can be anything you want. If you have kids go to the splash park where they have water slides and games. Super kid friendly! My wife and I were there for a romantic getaway. Usually we prefer to stay at an all adult property but the splash pool really helped keep the youngsters at bay. The property is gorgeous, especially at night when fire and low light helps set the mood for romance. You can get away really quick and be secluded fire side in front of a lake together. If your interested socializing the lobby bar is very plush wiyh excellent drinks and bartenders. The rooms are well appointed and the large balcony is perfect for morning coffee. The staff was very friendly but were stretched pretty thin around the pool during the day. I've stayed at a lot of 5 star hotels and this resort deserves to be higher on the tripadvisor list. Keep in mind, a five star resort has 5 star prices. While the rooms rates are affordable, the hotel food and drinks are lavishly priced. $7 per beer at the pool, $30 buckets, $16 lunch buffets, $10+ mixed drinks at the lobby bar, and the list keeps going. Overall, we would stay here again but would still be open to seeing what other properties had to offer.

Just stayed here for a few days while going to Spring Training games. The resort is still very good, but there are still some little things that need improvement. The washers in the sink faucets in my room need replacing. Had to almost use a wrench to turn them off completely so I didn't hear a drip drip drip all night. And the wireless connection in the exercise room was so weak that it was very hard to get a connection to use my Ipad. Little things, but you would think that they would check them out when they get a complaint. But you can't fault the over all service. The concierge desk is always great as is the front desk. Would i stay here again, you bet!

Room Tip: Stayed in one of the casitas. Expensive but worth it.

We were celebrating our 18th wedding anniversary and had been recommended by a friend to try Bourbon Steak. We decided to make a staycation out of it and book a room at the Princess. Upon check in, they were very nice. The grounds of the hotel are beautiful. We checked in to the room. It was nice but definitely older. We arrived at Bourbon Steak early and they presented us with an anniversary card signed by the staff which was very sweet. After that the experience and service went downhill. The waiter dropped off a drink menu without any other words or greeting. We had a glass of wine before dinner and then moved up to an awesome table on the patio. It was a big round booth next to a heater and was great. Unfortunately, the hotel managers granddaughters pool party started shortly after. The restaurant was playing coffeehouse type music that clashed terribly with the Miley Cyrus techno blasting from the pool area. It was difficult to even have a conversation because of the conflicting music. As you looked around the patio you could see all the guests disturbed by the music. The restaurant staff told us they were trying to get them to turn it down. Eventually we decided to move inside. The hostess was very sweet about it. The waiter obviously disappointed to lose a table and provided no service whatsoever. We moved from a really neat table to a tiny two top inside. Aside from the hostesses, the waitstaff seemed very disinterested. The young men pouring the water were very attentive but we had to to stop other staff and ask them to tell our waiter we would like more wine because he was unaware glasses has been sitting empty. We had to ask him to tell us what the appetizer sent out by the chef was because he walked away without explaining it. The only thing he put energy into explaining was the most expensive thing on the menu - the A5 steak. I am sure it is important to move the product due to its shelflife and cost but I think it would be better if it was not done so obviously at the expense of all other menu items. Having said this all about the service, the food was delicious. My husband did order the A5 and it was wonderful. Later that night, after we had gone to bed, I went to get a bottle of water from the mini bar and accidentally opened the other cabinet - only to find it still contained a bunch of clothes from the last guest. Very very strange and made us wonder how clean the room really was?? Weirdest experience ever at what was supposed to be a high end restaurant and resort and not worth the money we spent.

Dear Stephandjer,

First, congratulations on your 18th wedding anniversary! We are honored that you chose to spend such a special occasion at Bourbon Steak and the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess. It sounds like your celebration began on a positive note with the card signed by the Bourbon Steak staff. That level of personalized service is what we’ve built our reputation on, so we are very sorry to hear about the rest of your experience. We sincerely apologize for the uncharacteristic issues you encountered. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We would appreciate the opportunity to welcome you back again.

We traveled to the Princess in March. Weather was perfect. We wanted to treat the teens to a Resort Style vacation instead of the typical disney vacations. If you're going to go there, upgrade to the Gold rooms. The services improve dramatically, including a great breakfast selection every morning and appetizers each evening. The Gold lounge also provides discounts throughout the hotel, complimentary waters and soda's throughout the day, and a "resort credit" depending on when you are traveling. I wouldnt want to stay for more than a few days, as I tire easily of paying $10 and up for cocktails, and the major strike was that smoking was permitted at all the pools except the "adults only" pool which our one child was too young to enter.

Room Tip: Do the Gold Lounge rooms.

Dear Christian R,

Thank you for visiting the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess. We strive to deliver the ultimate Arizona resort experience to our guests, so we are thrilled you chose to spend your resort vacation with us! It sounds as though you thoroughly enjoyed your stay and the amenities at our Fairmont Gold Lounge. At the pools, we trust you and your teens took a ride down the waterslides! We have five pools and the adults-only location is the rooftop pool at Well & Being at Willow Stream Spa. We apologize you encountered smoking, which is allowed at our South and East Pools, although not in the pool and is not permitted at Sonoran Splash, our family-focused pool complex. We have many exciting family activities planned this summer, from a zip line to a new water ride and fireworks, so we hope to welcome you back for more fun, soon!

This is a beautiful property with nice rooms, beautiful pools, golf course, great tennis courts, and helpful staff. However, it seems that the top objective of this hotel is to charge you for every detail, even after you've paid an exorbitant amount for your room. This hotel is also designed for numerous conventions and large families. It is not quiet (I had to be moved to a different room after the first night because of the extreme noise outside my room late at night and early in the morning) If you must stay at this hotel, be sure to stay in the rooms that have carpet outside the room, not the noisy tile floors! The food served at The Princess was extremely average and overpriced. Quality and portions were very disappointing, and I was anxious to get off property to get some great food that many restaurants in Scottsdale provide. Unless you are attending a convention being held at this hotel, I highly recommend you choose another hotel where you get the same view for a lot less money!

Room Tip: do not get a room with the tile halls outside. The noise is terrible. Request the rooms with carpe...

Traveled in early March. Weather wise, a great time of year for Scottsdale. 80's during the day and 60 at night. Service and food at the hotel restaurants very good. On property is La Hacienda, a good place to go if you want high end southwestern food. Golfed at TPC Scottsdale. A fun course that was challenging but not so tough that you couldn't enjoy yourself. The colorful stories by the caddie regarding local golf history made the round even more enjoyable. Make sure you take the time to head down Scottsdale Rd to shop and explore "Old Town" Scottsdale.

Room Tip: The resort is quite spread out. If you get a room at the extreme end of the property you are a long...

Dear FSheckie,

It sounds like you enjoyed a relaxing getaway filled with great golf, food,
and signature Fairmont service. March truly is the perfect time to visit
Scottsdale, especially with the chilly winter weather back in New England.
We're happy to know that you had a chance to explore TPC, La Hacienda, and
