“Peaceful, relaxing and convenient!”
Reviewed 9 June 2010

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at SmokeTree. Our room was more like a small apartment, with living room separate from bedroom. We slept like babies even though we were away from home. The room stayed nice and cool the entire time even though temps got up to 107 while we were there. We loved the fact that we could swim in the cute lighted pool any time.. so we often took an "end of day" dip in the pool to relax. It's off season so I suspect the rates were really low because of that - highly recommend taking advantage of the off season rates.. don't let the heat in Phoenix scare you away.

We loved Scottsdale - and great breakfast place just around the corner from SmokeTree at The Good Egg (down Scottsdale Ave turn left on Rose and right into shopping center). TONS of shopping nearby and also plenty of restaurants too. Scottsdale feels very safe and it is convenient to get to anywhere around Phoenix on the 101.

The rooms have complimentary hair dryer so you don't need to pack that. We always had plenty of towels plus they leave towels out at the pool 24/7 if you go for a swim. The room had a coffee maker and small refrigerator and sink separate from the bathroom.

In the morning we were serenaded by the sound of birds chirping and cute little jack rabbits hop around the property. There are lots of beautiful shrubs around the rooms/cottages for a feeling of privacy.

We will definitely be coming back to SmokeTree in the near future!

If you arrive at night it might be hard to find the resort since there are not a lot of flashy lights out front. In fact there is a large dark building in front that I think used to be a restaurant. The resort is sort of behind that. It's located on Lincoln just off about a block from Scottsdale Blvd on the right as you approach Scottsdale Blvd. Easy to miss the entrance - but that is fine with us!

Almost forgot - free wifi was available for the entire time... If you need the wifi check with the hotel management when you check in so that you have a room with good access. Ours had no problems with connectivity.

If you are looking for a quiet, peaceful retreat this is the place! Rooms were clean and quiet and the staff pleasant and accomodating. You do not get the noise and hustle bustle of a large hotel. Scottsdale is literally 500 yards down the road! Great market on the corner and many restaurants within walking distance. We will be back!

My husband and I were doing an over night together. We arrived and the front of the building is in shambles. We went inside all the local information was very old and then we were taken to our room. The rooms were cement painted walls at first looked clean enough. But then I noticed the blanket on the bed was covered in white anilmal hair. After a call to the frint desk two nice woman came over to shake out my blanket! We checked out after that and the owner was very nice about it. I had read all the good reviews and thought it would be great but I was very disappointed. It is run down and feels very out dated.

STmanager, General Manager at SmokeTree Resort & Bungalows, responded to this review, 6 March 2010
The room shown in this review was extremely clean and the Lead Housekeeper as well as myself visited the room with the guest
as they checked in. There was a claim that dog hair was seen but non could be found during the inspection with the guest. Some guests look for a reason to do a last change and avoid the cancellation charge. As a positive review can be seen at a nearby hotel on the same day, by the same guest, we
stand by our commitment to great room cleanliness. The room was recently remodeled and there is no aspect of the Resort that looks run down.
Our restaurant is under renovation at the front of the Resort.

we arrived at the resort in the dark and found it a little difficult to locate.. The front of the resort is an empty building making the resort look run down, However our room was very clean and spacious with all that you could want. the gardens were well kept and tidy.

There are places to eat and a supermarket within walking distance although this area was under re development when we were there.

A comfortable place to stay but not outstanding.

We've just returned from a very relaxing four days at the Smoketree. Sherri, Colin and Eric Williams run this resort that has been in their family for 44 years. Sherri and Colin were very wonderful, helpful, friendly hosts. We didn't get to know Eric as well but we're sure he is a good guy, too! The location is great. It's quiet. It's clean. The housekeeping staff was great and accommodated all our needs. It's a small place, not "corporate" at all. The pool is nice and warm and the beds are fantastic. The place has a very natural, good feeling about it. I'm sure it's because the owners really care about helping their guests have a great time. And it's very reasonably priced. Give them a call.

We stayed here for three nights at the end of our vaction. The bungalow was spacious, clean and well equipped. We had our own parking space right next to the bungalow which made unloading and loading easy.
The grounds are nicely kept and it was a delight to share them with the humming birds.

Don't be put off by the lack of kerb appeal - this is a great place.

Be sure to try AJ's next door - a food store with a difference.

We choose this place because it said that there were bikes to use....and it had a pool and the cabins looked cute. The cabins were cute.....The pool was FREEZING.. too cold to go in it ,the water in the room was freezing (i felt like I was camping, taking a shower). When we made our way to find the bikes, eveyone of them had a flat tire. When we told the front desk, they just said "oh, that's too bad". We stayed for 3 nights and if they had pumped up the tires we could have ridden the bikes on the next day....but they didn't. There did'nt seem to be a particular house keeping format, no sign to put on the door(manager said..."I'm sure that there is one somewhere in your room".. there wasn't. They said call if you don't want housekeeping. Weird ,if you have owned the place since 1966, one would think that there would be little sings to hang on your door nob (it is not a new idea). They said there were towels at the pool...there wasn't....everything was just a little TOO laid back. There was no dish cloth or tea towel at the sink, and a few pieces of plastic cutlery wouldn't have been a bad idea,( they come pre-packaged). I think that comment cards would be a brilliant idea, then they could find out how people REALLY felt and work on fixing these issues.Good location, walking distance(for most) to lots of restaurants, shopping and old town. For $75 a night it wasn't bad....but it could have been alot better with very little effort on the managements end.
