This was my husband’s and my 4th stay at the Phoenician Resort, Scottsdale, AZ and this time we brought 3 friends with us. Each time we visit, it is more amazing than the last. Staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. Just about the entire staff remembers and calls you by name. Sometimes, I have a hard time remembering my own! To be greeted at breakfast with “Good Morning, Mr.& Mrs.____“ before we even reach the hostess station makes us feel so special. It is like they really appreciate our business and want us there. Our room was more than lovely. Large, and immaculate. The huge bathroom was spotless. Night service would remove any used towels, turn down your bed, put soft music on, fill the ice bucket, leave chocolates and the luxury of all, place a white cloth on the floor on the sides of the bed so that when you got up in the middle of the night your feet were not on the rug but on the foot cloth. That, I had never experienced at any other hotel. The grounds did not have a blade of grass out of place and the landscaping was beautifully done with waterfalls, pools, flowers, trees and ponds. One day while pointing out the Desert Walk on the property, a bell boy, Manuel, saw us and asked us to get into the golf cart and took us on a tour of the entire grounds. He had worked there for 16 years and was a wealth of information. The concierge staff was more than helpful, knowledgeable and very accommodating. Would arrange any activity you desired. House keeping would come back after they cleaned the room and ask if everything was Ok. If not, they would fix it. The pools were warm and clean and the pool staff very attentive. This time we witnessed the pool staff in action..... 9 baby ducks followed Mommy Duck into the pool. Unfortunately, the babies did not know how to swim yet. Babies were stuck in the pool when Mom flew out. 4 or 5 pool staff worked about 45 minutes to get the ducks out. Mommy would not let them near the babies. Finally, after getting them into a box, the staff said they would bring the ducks to the pond, just a few feet away. Mommy would know where to find them. Well, Mommy didn’t know and was quite upset. We finally had to leave and go back to our room, however, shortly after returning there, we received a call from the pool staff saying the ducks were united with their mother. The staff knew how concerned we were and wanted to put our mind at ease that all was well. I cannot imagine any other resort having as much concern for the ducks or their guests. They certainly went above and beyond. The Phoenician has a great location with lots to do in the Phoenix, Scottsdale and Tempe area. Sedona less than 2 hours away. This is truly a First Class, 5 Star Resort, one you have to experience just once, but you’ll go back!

Room Tip: Every room has an incrediable view. Some of mountains and golf courses and others overlooking the b...

We stayed overnight at the Phoenician and loved it. The beds are so comfortable, you don't want to get up in the morning! The grounds are impeccable, it is so beautiful. We are looking forward to a longer stay soon. The location is great, too. We saw a very friendly little jackrabbit taking a rest from the heat, which made a perfect welcome to our casita!

Our room and the facility were beautiful. The bed was extremely comfortable, amenities first-rate and the staff excellent. We had a mountain view king room with a huge bathroom. We used the fitness center which was extremely well outfitted. The 8 pools were arranged in a descending fashion and were beautiful and well-staffed. Food in the restaurants is quite expensive, but that is to be expected in a 5 star resort. Off season rates are extremely reasonable.

There are a lot of excellent options for full service resorts in the Phoenix area. But The Phoenician stands out for its central location, lavish appointments and excellent service. The property is a symbol of 1980's excess with an amazing, world-class build. If you want to feel like a million bucks and want a property a little more formal than other comparable options then the Phoenician may be a good choice for you. Great for couples, golfers and jet setters... not as ideal for families or younger travelers seeking nightlife or a 'scene'. Also consider Royal Palms and Arizona Biltmore.

Location: The Phoenician is located on the Phoenix-Scottsdale border near downtown Scottsdale and minutes from the Biltmore area and PHX. The property is set on the SE side of Camelback Mountain, affording excellent views of the city. (Something most competing properties cannot offer.) While you are close to many things you can walk to nothing. If you want to get off property then either rent a car or be prepared to use the resort's town car service. (Taxi cabs are NOT allowed to pick up guests on property.)

Dining/Amenities: We did not try the full service restaurant but did enjoy excellent room service at breakfast. The food quality was superb and the service was unusually outstanding. The new-ish J&G Steakhouse has best on property views of the city, very good craft cocktails and good (but perhaps not notably so) cuisine. Try the cocktail lounge before dinner. The Phoenician offers a full spa, golf and tennis. The pools look especially nice.

Rooms: We stayed in the casitas below the main building. The room was spacious and offered an incredible view of Camelback Mountain. Everything about the appointments was first class from the linens to the technology. Marble, gold plate and berber everywhere. While a refresh has updated the color palate the rooms retain their 1980's opulence. It's a better thing than you might expect. On the down side the room was not as clean as you might expect for the price range and the patios are less than private. Overall my wife and I quickly felt at home and in love with the place.

Service: People are helpful and usually crisp. Something about our interactions (other than room service) left something to be desired. I'm nitpicking but at this price point you deserve to know that service is arguably more intuitive at the smaller, boutique Royal Palms but it still top notch here. Perhaps just not world class.

Other: Self-Park is available and convenient. This is a Starwood Property that participates in SPG. Very good wi-fi. The $29 resort fee is pushing it and is higher than some competing properties.

Bottom Line: The Phoenician is incredibly unique and perhaps unexpected in Phoenix. You will pay 5 star prices. Value will be there if the property fits your traveling needs and you will have a memorable experience.

Room Tip: Consider the casitas and the Canyon building.

We appreciate you taking the time to provide such a thorough review of your stay. We’re delighted you had a memorable visit! As you mentioned, The Phoenician is just minutes away from Scottsdale’s active nightlife scene, as well as its shopping and cultural districts, providing guests with many on- and off-property options. Opened in 1988, the resort has undergone more than $90 million in its most recent renovations, bringing a more contemporary elegance to the guest experience. Among those enhancements was the introduction of a Family Activity Center, the perfect complement to the eight-pool complex and waterslide. As a AAA Five Diamond resort, The Phoenician is committed to maintaining the highest service standards, upholding a culture where personalization and attention to detail are fundamental. These standards are consistently reviewed by all staff, who also takes part in additional, ongoing training. We hope this commitment helped to create that “at home” feeling you had during your trip. Thank you again for choosing The Phoenician!

I've stayed in Ritz Carlton's and Four Seasons. I have to say that the service at this hotel was better than some of those. Every person I came in contact with went overboard to be friendly and helpful. I was there for 4 days for a work convention. So often the food/staff in hotel catering/convention areas are mediocre. Not the Phoenician...it was fantastic!!

EVERY employee would say hello. I called the front desk to ask where I could buy a rajor and then sent a complimentary one to my room immediately and then called 3 minutes later to make sure I received it and asked what else they could do.

I lost my diamond earrings in the spa and the locker room attendant spent 2 hours trying to find them. When she finally did, she cried with me.....real tears! Everyone is the spa was fantastic.

The food (serving 500+ people) was delicious.

They have a wine shop in the hotel where you can do tastings and we had so much fun there one afternoon.

The rooms were very nice. The pools looked fantastic, but I wasn't able to enjoy them.

I would love to go again for a personal vacation.

Room Tip: I stayed in a room in the main hotel so I could be close to the convention rooms. The view wasn'...

The resort was very nice with plenty of ammenities for everyone. The Cactus Garden was beautiful, the pools were refreshing, and the health center was excellent for a workout while traveling. The conference center had comfortable seating with good views from all angles. I enjoyed a walk to the top of the Camelback Ridge behind the resort. I recommend the hike for those looking for a little more excercise.

Stayed here for a 2 day conference. Check-in was excellent (although a little too strained to be a balance between friendly and formal). Room was ready and well equiped. Good night sleep. Breakfast excellent. Good internet connection. Friendly staff. Professional, clean and well run establishment.
