“Beautiful resort, great for conferences”
Reviewed 15 May 2014

Stayed at the Phoenician for a conference and it was stellar. Had an extra day to enjoy the lovely pools, spa, etc. The facilities are lovely, gorgeous pools, nice beautifully appointed rooms. I hear the golf is terrific, although I don't play. Proximity to Camelback and Paradise Valley. Service was excellent. It was an ideal location for a conference. While I'd enjoy just being able to relax there, I'd not want to be surrounded by conference participants -- something for families or couples on vacation to consider. Also, the spa was a good notch below the rest of the property and other spas in the area.

Room Tip: The place is spread out; you need to decide whether you want to be close to the conference activity...

I am a Starwood Gold member and have just stayed at the Phoenician six nights for a special birthday celebration and Mother's Day weekend. From the moment we arrived , our stay was perfect ! The hotel grounds are beautiful. There are three levels of pools so no matter how busy the hotel is , my husband and I always found a quiet shaded area at one of the pools. The hotel staff is amazing, always going that extra step so make sure that everything is perfect. We took advantage of the gym every morning which had excellent equipment and a beautiful view while working out. Our room was immaculate , very comfortable and very quiet. We has lunch at the pool and the food and service was great. The concierge service is excellent and Natalie at the front desk was extremely helpful. We visit Phoenix quite often and we are looking forward to returning to the Phoenician. A perfect and memorable stay.

The hotel is well managed, clean, service oriented, and well located.
We enjoyed our stay in a deluxe room with a view of the pool area. My wife enjoyed a day at the spa. We were at a convention and the hotel handled the meetings and meals with great care and expertise.

We just spent 5 nights at the Phoenician and had a wonderful time. The grounds are immaculate and the pool area was fabulous. We had great service at the pool even when it was busy and loved taking advantage of the tennis, biking, gym. Location: perfect for downtown Scottsdale which we visited daily.
Here are my negatives:
our room was very far from everything so I would ask for a room by the pool next time.

The rooms are in major need of updating for this price. We actually had mold growing in our shower, carpet was old, fraying furniture. At $500 a night I expect a lot more.

There was a day we were at the pool and a couple played Country music on their cell phone very loudly. Then I think other people were annoyed and started playing their music. Plus the speaker music of the hotel. We spoke to an attendant and they said there is no rule against that. There should be!!! Imagine your relaxing day with all that going on. And all other chairs were full.

Overall a great trip. I would come back at a discounted price or when the rooms are redone. Four Seasons in my opinion was a much nicer hotel but this had a better pool area and is closer to town.

Room Tip: Ask to be close to pool if using pool, spa, gym and tennis.

Thank you for taking the time to review your experience. It’s wonderful to hear that you enjoyed your time at The Phoenician; however, we are disappointed that some aspects of stay fell short of your expectations. We want all of our guests to have a relaxing pool experience, which is why we ask visitors to refrain from playing music. We do regret that this rule was not enforced accordingly, and we will be sure to review all pool policies with our Oasis team to ensure our operational goals are being met. We hope you will consider staying with us again so that we may provide you with the luxurious, memorable guest experience for which The Phoenician is known.

If I could give the Phoenician more than 5 stars I would!! Let me start by saying we are SPG Gold members. At check in they offered to upgrade us to a suite but since we arrived at 11am, and the suite wouldn't be ready until 4:00, AND we were only there for one night, we opted for a standard room which was ready for us right away. By standard, I mean there was no view (if you call the gorgeous palm trees "no view"). The room (in the main building) was lovely, large and with a huge terrace with a comfy chair and lounge. The king sized bed was SUPER comfortable and the pillows among the best at any hotel I've ever been too. The bathroom is large with a lovely sunken tub, separate shower stall and a separate room for the toilet. I can't for the life of me understand the people who gave the rooms bad reviews.
Now for the service. Impeccable!
They couldn't do enough for us!! The bartender (Steve) at the pool bar (one of the several pool bars) made me the best Prickly pear Margarita, and then didn't charge me for it! He only charged my husband for his. And it's not like we'd been there for hours or days..it was our first (and it turned out only) drink at that bar! The young man in the ice cream parlor/snack shop was not only incredibly polite, when I went in to buy just a banana, he told me "No worries, just take it". Who does that? And then there are the attendants at the pool. Ok yes, the pool area is BUSY. It's Scottsdale and it's 100 degrees out. If you couldn't get a lounge, get there earlier! Don't blame the hotel or the attendants! We explored the hotel and waited until 3:00 because it was so busy and then found a couple of chairs together. Right away we were brought towels and a pitcher of ice water and two glasses. The ice water was refilled for us about 45 minutes later.
We had dinner at the "Thirsty Camel" because the other casual restaurant was filled. Two fabulous personal pizza's out on the terrace with drinks (two free drinks as our Gold welcome gift from the hotel), a guitarist playing and the gorgeous Scottsdale sunset....I can't gush enough. Oh yes, and because I had mentioned on our reservation that it was our anniversary, they sent up a bottle of champagne and some chocolates! And by the way, we didn't even PAY for the room, as we did this particular night on starpoints. We will most DEFINITELY be back.

close to scottsdal foroutings, the best thing here is the oversized rooms. Some of the largest rooms I have stayed in that would be suites in other resorts or hotels. You don't hear your neighbors either with the size of the rooms. Separate soak tub, shower, toilet areas.
Views are othe the mouton right behind or of the pools. The mountain views are some of the most quiet rooms as the pool areas may host parties.
Steak and service at j&G is OK, if you really want a top steak go spend the bucks and go off campus.
The pool seating is cozy, like "hi where are you from" cozy when the resort is full and seating is a premium. Renting a cabana avoids the cozy close buddy buddy spacing of the deck chairs. Good towel service and deck chairs at the pool, it just needed a little more room. The tile pool was really nice on the feet and ascetically pleasing.

Room Tip: 5th and 6th floors in the north wing are very quiet rooms. At time luggage rolled on the outside til...

we had heard so much over the years about this hotel and they went beyond on all major points. Spacious well designed out marble 'palace' with huge windows everywhere to take advantage of the incredible views. Service was professional, yet personable--staff very pleasant and attentive. We have stayed at St. Regis in Aspen and New York, and they can't compare to the Phenocian. Every employee we had contact with seemed genuinely interested in making sure we were satisfied---RARE. Beautiful amenities--four pools, great golf and tennis and don't forget the hike up Camelback Mtn (Cholla Trail). Even the weekend athlete will find it fun and just enough of a challenge before lounging by the pool in the afternoon. Several terraced restaurants with first class menus and the 'Relish' clubhouse as a nice alternative for oversized burgers. Perfect long weekend stay. We are making a May tradition.
