“Nice spot for wine and music”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 October 2013

My husband and I stopped into 5th and Wine last Saturday night during a weekend in Scottsdale. It is nicely located and has a comfortable café/wine bar vibe. The hostess was very pleasant and seated us outside on a lovely fall evening that was very comfortable. I did not find the wine selection particularly impressive and was surprised to not find wine flights offered on the menu. The food was more then expected for a wine bar and we enjoyed several small plates. Our waitress was engaging and warm. The best part of the night though was enjoying listening to their live music. Ivan was playing/singing that evening and was very good with a wide selection of music. He played for several hours with only a small break which kept the atmosphere very pleasant. Very much enjoyed our evening!

“Unfulfilled Expectations”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 October 2013

Location and focus suggested that this self-described "Downtown Scottsdale’s favorite restaurant disguised as a wine bar, located in the heart of Old Town Scottsdale" was going to be a real treat. But the hype led to disappointment.

As directed by the 5th & Wine website, we made reservations through CityEats only to find upon our arrival that, even after an on-line confirmation, the restaurant didn't have our reservation.

We were dismayed that when we ordered Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, the waitress (a bit aloof) advised us that they were out of stock. A wine bar(!) out of stock of one of the best wines??? Hard to fathom.

On the waitress's recommendation, I ordered the bison burger and butternut squash soup. The bison burger was remarkably unremarkable ~ with a chipotle roasted corn aioli that was hardly noticeable. The soup was tasteless and diluted, and I exchanged it for sweet potato fries that turned out to be crisp, tasty, and the best part of my meal.

My wife fared better. She ordered the Cobb salad and a sampling of bruschetta offerings. Bruschetta was good but, to be special, it's got to equal or exceed Postino's ~ and it didn't.

The good news about the place is its ambience. We sat outside in a courtyard between offices, and at night, it was as romantic and pleasant as you'd want.

“Nice Happy Hour”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 October 2013

Dropped in during happy hour on our first night in Scottsdale during a short getaway.

Sat on the patio in the courtyard behind the restaurant. Felt a little "boxed in" but overall not too bad.

Selected a couple of wines by the glass and were not disappointed. Sampled a few of their happy hour appetizers - stuffed mushrooms, pickle bowl and hummus plate. All were very good.

Wanted to get back for a second visit but just ran out of time. Maybe next visit to Scottsdale.

“Wonderful combo of wine, art, music and vibe.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 October 2013 via mobile

The black & white photos grab you first, then the bluesy music. As you enter the main restaurant area, the dramatic art & decor overtakes you. The wine list is very good. Great deals by the glass before 6pm. Food was excellent. We had tuna which was very peppery offset by a cool pickled cucumber salad and a lamb burger garnished perfectly. Side salad was not overdressed as is so often the case. The staff was very accommodating, though it was not busy. Ask for Tammy. She was so helpful with tips for these tourists and never said no to our crazy requests such as leaving a gift certificate for friends that are coming into town next month. Definitely should be a destination.

“Restaurant Week Review”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 October 2013

5th and Wine
American comfort

Ambiance- 5/5 perfect evening for outdoor dining. Live music was a great addition

Presentation- 4.5/5

Taste- 7.5/10 fried pickles were light and fantastic. The hummus not so much. I ordered sea bass but they were out. Was offered salmon as substitute lol but got seared tuna instead which was pretty good. Dessert again was amazing. Peanut butter cookies reminded me of home ec cookies with the sugary fork impression but soo much better.

Value-4.5/5 $44 dollar meal for $30 not bad at all

21.5/25
