“Three stars is probably too many”
Reviewed 8 September 2010

I can only rate this 3 stars for the following reasons:
Pro's first: Grounds are beautiful
The cottage we stayed in was updated and nice
They are dog friendly
The valet guys are hardworking and accommodating
Con's:
The staff had a really bad attitude from the concierge check in, the bartender who would rather cut up lemons than wait on us. The hostess at the outside restaurant did not even offer a friendly hello or crack a smile. One person who finally brought us our ice tea said we are just so busy and proceeded to throw a temper tantrum with us and several other guests watching because they were out of some sort of food.
The fact that they take dogs is a plus, but then they charge 35 dollars a day per dog, outrageous!
The mattress was almost too soft as both my husband and I had trouble sleeping because it made our bodies fall asleep, had to keep turning all night.
Went to make dinner reservations at 3pm for that evening and they were booked solid, ate a Dahl and Diluca which turned out to be a blessing, awesome food and service.
When I made the reservation I requested early check in, we arrived at 215pm and our room was not ready, she took our cell and said she would call us by 3pm. No big deal except we never got a call. I finally had to go back to the long line and find out why no one called us to say it was ready. No apologies at all. It was 330pm at this time. We cannot say enough about service in this economy. We stay at the Grand Del Mar Resort in San Diego and by the end of our stay they know us by name greet us everytime as if we are the only guest at the Hotel. We did not experience this at the L'Auberge ever. I will add that is was Labor Day weekend and they were busy, BUT this to me is why you would want to be at your best so these same people may come back again next year. I might add, it will not be us.

I returned home yesterday after my 4th stay at this resort in the past 12 months. During this 12 months I have witnessed many changes including their recent expansion to include rock view cottages which are now complete. I have stayed in all of their various accommodation including The Lodge, which is warm and cosy in addition to very cost effective, the Creekside cottages, which include open fireplaces and outdoor nature showers as well as elegant indoor shower and tubs. The latter of these rooms offers peaceful surroundings where a vast number of trees offer canopied shade and beautiful views of a lively stream complete with a stream filled with lots of wildlife freely flowing past your verandah and living areas. Wonderful way to rest and recharge, also extremely conducive to a romantic getaway!! This visit I stayed in the new Hillside Cottages which offer a quite different experience to the Creekside Cottages. Uninterrupted, amazing views of Sedona's famous "red rocks". These cottages are elegant and tasteful, offering a separate living room and verandah, with views of the red rocks from the living, bed and bathrooms. Outdoor nature shower, which offers complete privacy, as well as a separate indoor tub and shower. Most significant is the exceptional attention paid to guests by ALL STAFF!! Not just management. Your name is remembered and used whenever possible. Everyone from the valet's to the Resort Manager make certain you feel welcome, that all of your needs or requests are fully accommodated and on the rare occasion something might go slight amiss - they rectify both gracefully and immediately. Their attention to detail is excellent. The resort is immaculate, the restaurant offers first class service and food ... all in all I cannot recommend it highly enough. I am very particular and enjoy to give credit when deserved. Well done L'Auberge!! A special Thank you to Ryan and Scott who always go out of their way to make my stay as close to perfect as possible.

Beautifully situated right alongside Oak Creek underneath an umbrella of mature Cottonwoods and other trees, this unquestionably the finest place to stay in Sedona; food is excellent (albeit a bit pricey); service top notch - not just professional, but extremely friendly. Private cabin accommodations are very nice. And pet friendly. Our boxer had as great a time as we did.

L'Auberge de sedona is understated elegance. Even before I got there, there helpful concierge, Graham sent me emails with tips completely customized for us. Valets were there to meet us when we checked in and parked our car right away. There is a daily resort fee that covers tips for valets, housekeeping, etc. so you don't have to worry about tipping every time you get your car. Check in is at a simple desk, not a big hotel desk where you wait in line., so you feel special from the start. We were upgraded to a beautiful cottage featuring a fireplace, outside shower and lovely deck. Happy hour is 4-5 each night and there are at least two yoga classes offered free daily. The yoga teachers were very good. We had dinner at the restaurant and sat creekside which was lovely and the food was amazing. We also used the spa and the technicians are top notch. The spa facility itself is very nice but not remarkable. The pool is next door at the Amara resort and they said there was a pool at another hotel that is larger that we could use as well but we didn't have time to use either. the staff is happy to run you uptown in an electric cart and pick you up as well so you don't have to worry about parking and it helps with fuel emissions as well (Sedona is very 'green' minded). The setting of the hotel is on Oak Creek and you feel like you are out in the country when you are actually steps from uptown. You can see the elephant rock from the resort. The whole area is beautiful. I was there with a friend for a 'girlfriend getaway,' but it would be a perfect location for a honeymoon or anniversary.

L’Auberge de Sedona was much more than I expected. After reading many reviews, I was a little weary about the recent construction mentioned by others. However, as of our trip this August, the major renovations were complete (with the exception of a swimming pool that I understand is going to be completed in the coming year) and the results are quite noteworthy. Our cottage was nicely updated with a large, modern bathroom that included a wonderful spa tub and an outdoor (and indoor) shower. We were happily surprised by a very large deck where we spent lots of mornings drinking our coffee and evenings winding down with a glass of wine. The complimentary shuttle to and from uptown Sedona was excellent and timely and the staff was friendly and always willing to accommodate any requests we made. The restaurant on the grounds is without a doubt one of the most exceptional places I’ve ever eaten. The service was impeccable, the ambiance outstanding, and the food was beyond delicious. It is a “must” if you’re in the Sedona area! The location of L’Auberge is central to nearly all of the attractions and there are endless things to do while visiting Sedona (hiking the many beautiful trails, shopping, Jeep tours of the canyons, a day trip to the Grand Canyon, etc.).

Not only would I return to L’Auberge, I would highly recommend it to any travelers seeking a beautiful, relaxing location, with comfortable accommodations and 5-star service.

If you want a unique experience, this is the place. Don't be put off by the rustic term "cottage". Our creekside cottage was very spacious, beautifully decorated, and absolutely luxurious. We enjoyed room service breakfast on our private deck with a gorgeous view of the creek. The private outdoor shower was fun, but if that's not your thing the indoor bathtub/shower combo was perfect. Another sure sign of a quality ... air conditioning that was whisper quiet and very effective. Patio dining along the creek was magical. Food, wine, and service were top notch.

We stayed in a lodge room on the first, which was adequate. The country faux rustic furnishings fit the decor of the lodge. The size was good for a basic room. What really impressed me was the level of service by the staff. The hotel does charge a per day fee for service. However, the fee was well worth it. Everyone was more than helpful in a very genuine way. The two managers were both excellent. One manager stopped while riding on the golf cart to take our picture and give us a ride to the lobby. Overall, fantastic service without pretentiousness.

We had breakfast twice at the restaurant. The crab eggs benedict was fantastic. The Sunday brunch was a generous spread with good variety.
