“Peace and Quiet”
Reviewed 7 April 2013

This hotel, actually a collection of timeshare/whole ownership units, was an excellent spot for our trip to Sedona. We used this as a base to explore both Sedona as well as a day trip to the Grand Canyon, ~2hr drive.

The hotel was located about 15 minutes north of Sedona in the Oak Creek Canyon. The drive between the two offers some of the best views in the area.

The hotel staff was very friendly upon check-in and was very helpful in describing the hotel grounds as well as giving restaurant recommendations in the area. The room was a little dated, but it was plenty spacious. We stayed in a forest view hot tub suite. There was a large living room connected to a deck that had both a patio table and a hot tub on it. The deck was very private considering there were units on both sides of us. The room also had two fireplaces with wood supplied daily. This was nice as the temperatures at night dropped to nearly freezing (March).

Overall I would highly recommend this hotel. It is worth the drive from downtown.

Dear Tripel_wide:

You are correct, all of our creekhouses are second homes that are privately owned. Each one is decorated to that homeowner’s taste adhering to our 4-diamond standards. It was great to hear that you enjoyed the privacy, the hot tub, and of course the complimentary firewood. We look forward to having you back with us soon.

We stayed here for 2 nights in early January this year. We're a family of five from New Zealand, and looking back on our three week holiday in the US we all agree this was the nicest place we stayed in. Why? Quite simply it felt like a home not a hotel suite. When we arrived Sedona was in the grip of a cold spell. We'd had a long day on the road and it was dark as we approached Junipine Resort. The road is winding and we were wondering how we'd find the place - but it was lit up with coloured lights in the trees and looked magical. A great first impression. We crunched our way across snow to the reception (check out the door handles, very cool) and checked in. We were really impressed by the warmth of the staff who offered us dvd's from the in-house library (free). Off we went to find our lodgings. Wow. Opened the door and thought, this is huge. The kitchen was modern, clean and well equipped. This opened on to the large living room with a large corner sofa, a dining table, enormous open fire all set up ready to light and doors onto a balcony. A large bedroom and bathroom were off to the side, whilst upstairs was a room with two double beds and a balcony, and another bathroom. Our kids are aged 16, 12 and 8 so this was perfect - there was room for us all to spread out and relax. We had brought food supplies so made dinner and then the rest of the family relaxed by the crackling fire. After 2 solid days of driving this felt SO good. I however had an important job to get on with - the laundry (sigh - some jobs just never go away). It was a clear night out, so I bundled up in my warm gear and lugged my bags of washing up to the laundry near reception. I think there were two washing machines and two driers, I could be wrong as it was a while back now. The instructions for use were clear and you can get change and washing powder from reception next door. Even better, there was a lovely mum from Michigan there and so we chatted as we did the wash about our respective family lives and the holiday trips we were both on. I've rarely enjoyed doing the washing so much! I did trek back and forth a couple of times to our room, but for me that was a lovely chance to look at the stars and enjoy the snow. You could drive up if you wanted to.
That chore accomplished, I was ready for bed. The beds were comfortable and the place pleasantly warm (heating was effective and quiet) so we all slept well. Next day the kids were so over being on the road they wanted a slow start, so it wasn't until late morning that we took a walk down to the river and enjoyed playing in the snow (a real novelty for us). The setting was so pretty. We then headed out for the afternoon and did a jeep tour (highly recommended). That night we'd planned to go out for dinner but the children just wanted to enjoy Junipine again, so we lit the fire again (heavenly and such great ambience) and had a night in instead. Cooking dinner was quite a pleasure as the kitchen had all the equipment we needed and my husband and I could enjoy a glass of wine as we cooked and talked to the kids - though they were stretched out on the sofa by then watching more movies from the library.
The following morning we needed to get going again which we did very regretfully. We loved what we'd seen of Sedona, and all wanted to stay for a week. To us, Junipine Resort was a tranquil retreat where we could relax completely in comfortable surroundings. We plan to come back someday and stay longer.

The resort was wonderful. The staff was so friendly and welcoming. We got upgraded to the most beautiful condo #7 with a hot tub right off the master suite. We ate breakfast in the cafe- which was exellent- the french toast was great.

My husband's first words were "you did good" when we walked in the place. We had a huge cabin with a spectacular view of the creek that our daughter loved exploring. What a great off the beaten place this is! It's a nice little distance from the congestion of Sedona, but delightfully so. Stop in town at Safeway for your wine or food if you're cooking. Otherwise, the resort restaurant is very good. Our cabin was newly decorated and had everything you could ask for. The resort had free movies for the DVD player, an Ipod player was in the kitchen, and room service. Everything about this place is awesome!

Room Tip: We loved the creek view in #10.

Initially we were going to stay in Flagstaff while doing a three day tour of the Grand Canyon and Meteor Crater, but the hotel reviews weren't great. So looking further afield we found Sedona which looked like a destination in its own right - so glad we did!

The Junipine looked one of the best when comparing location, ratings and price. On arrival the staff were friendly and we were given unit 16. Initial reactions were mixed... spacious and cozy, but quite dated. The bathroom in particular is old with a clunky bath/shower that is almost impossible to get right and washing/dryers stacked floor to ceiling with a large sign "owner use only" written on it.

Maybe thats a clue - it would appear the units are privately owned and rented through the resort. So maybe its lucky dip what unit you get. Anyway once the initial, lets say.. slight disappointment wore off you quickly see all there is to like about the resort instead. The setting is great with the faint noise of water running down the creek and views of the woods or creek. If you like quiet and peaceful this place is for you!

Worth noting that Sedona itself is about 10-15 mins away by car and that the drive down 89A from Flagstaff has some very tight and narrow bends which will get your attention - particularly in the dark or after a 5 hour drive!!

Thank you for taking the time to pass on your comments regarding creekhouse #16. We'll be sure to relay your review to the owner, and go through it point by point. That unit was extensively renovated a few years ago, and we'll take a long look at the shower fixtures to be sure they are operating correctly.

It's great to know that you enjoyed our location, and were able to spend a cozy evening with us. Maybe we can double the length of your next visit ;)

The setting is incredibly beautiful. The staff does a great job. The unit we had, #20, could not have been more comfortable.

The ammenities were exactly as described. I can't believe some of the negative comments I read.

Anyone will be hard pressed to find a place as wonderful as Junipine.

It's a beautiful drive into Sedona with many places of interest along the way.

I believe Junipine will exceed most people's expectations.

Thanks so much for telling us about your stay. Indeed, creekhouse #20 is beautiful, and I'm glad you were able to enjoy not only the house, but the grounds/location as well.

If you would like that creekhouse again in the future, just give us a call or when reserving on our website, just indicate your preference in the comments section.

These are nice condos. The unit we stayed in (#5) was clean, but old. Like 1970's old. It was great to have a fire place, as we had 8 inches of snow. The bed was very comfortable. A very nice surprise was the good quality of the food in the onsite restaurant. Delicious dinner and outstanding breakfast at good prices. Helpful staff, but make no mistake this is not a resort. Not a spa. Not fancy at all. Good, solid, value and nothing more.

I passed your comments on the the Cafe, and they were very much appreciated. That was a snowy weekend, yet it only took three days to melt completely away.

Creek house #5 was renovated in 2009, and the theme the owner chose was exactly as you described - a more rustic feel with a few modern accents like granite counter tops and a spacious loft floorplan. We have 41 creek houses in our rental pool, and each one is individually decorated. Just let us know what you are looking for in terms of location, view, decor, etc and we'll match you up accordingly.
