After reading such glowing reviews about Sedona Real, I was anxious to stay here on a recent weekend trip to Sedona. I must have stayed at a totally different hotel, based on my experience.
Overall, the experience was good, but the room (first floor) was something resembling a dark dungeon. The room location was not very convenient to the parking lot. There was a small (mini) location map printed on the room key card holder. The only directions i received was some perfunctory verbal information from the Front Desk " Assistant".
The room was dark and with one small window. There was only one lamp and that was on the nightstand between the beds. There is no lamp in the desk area. I brought my laptop and could have used some light. The chair in the desk area didn't suit the height of the desk. Felt like I was sitting in a hole! There is an overhead light in the ceiling that is harsh and unpleasant. The room itself is of average size and there is a large comfortable chair in the far corner, but I couldn't sit there and read because there was no lamp...just another dark corner. The frig and microwave are definitely "mini". The room , however is appointed well enough and was clean. The bed linens are up to date. there are many pillows, most of which are large and squishy. If you are particular, bring your own pillow. There was an ample supply of towels provided, but they were very scratchy.
On a walk around the grounds I found that the upstairs rooms have balconies. When I was asked at the Front Desk if I wanted an upstairs or downstairs room, I was advised that there were no elevators. I'm 81 years old (not handicapped) but not excited about dragging my luggage up the metal steps. Don't you know that next time (if there is one), I will haul m;y "stuff" up the steps. There is no outside sitting area provided with the lower units. At this point, I don't feel this was a good "value".
Sedona Real is pet-friendly and there is an enclosed "picnic/dog park" combination area on the premises. There's a short walking path, benches, etc. The smell of the junipers trees is wonderful.
Breakfast is included and is typical, with a wide selection of hot and cold selections. The breakfast "staff" is friendly and cheerful...as is the Front Desk staff. There's also a Concierge for first-timers to Sedona or if you need suggestions for things to do while visiting.
Would I go back.....perhaps...would definitely opt for the upstairs accommodations. Over $200 a night for a "dungeon" changed my perspective....I was expecting so much more, based on the reviews.....live and learn, I guess.
