This is one of those Hyatt properties where you can buy the place and then Hyatt manages it and rents it out so we expected the usual sales pitch and after check-in the "concierge" made her move inviting us to come back and learn more about the area, we declined as we were tired and she looked crestfallen but did not push which was welcome. The studio apartment we had was small but clean on the 2nd floor looking inwards so no view at all, the amenities were excellent however and the large pool and couple of hot-tubs were great and the clubhouse seemed like a good meeting spot.
Conveniently located near downtown with restaurants and shops in close proximity.

Great views from the pool area and a nice firepit to sit around at night - met a lot of nice people there.

Room Tip: interior facing rooms have no view and the lower floors must be super dark as well so go high and ask to face outwards

This was our second time at Pinon Pointe. The first time was on a special 2 or 3 night promo when they put us in a tiny efficiency with a view of the parking lot by the construction 10 or 15 years ago. This trip was with a 1 BR unit that we had exchanged into (we're timeshare owners). We had a great time.

We had a 1 BR unit, #912B. It was amply sized but only about 900 square feet. It was on the bottom floor so we didn’t have any views. While there weren’t any views, the patio was room, surrounded by desert foliage and was very private. The unit doesn’t have very many windows and was a bit dark. The dark brown carpeting and dark brown satillo floor tiles also made it seem dark. But it was still nice.

There was a large shower plus a Jacuzzi tub in the room outside of the bathroom

The kitchen and bathroom had granite tile on the countertops.

I was surprised to see five magazines under the table in the living room - Kiplinger, Tennis, Cigar Afficianado, Town and Country and Sedona Monthly. That was a nice touch.

Kitchen Features - the kitchen has a full sized refrigerator (black - kind of dates when it was purchased. There was a full array of cooking and eating utensils. There was also a fancy Cuisinart coffee maker that had a reservoir to hold the brewed coffee and a dispensing valve to pour out one cup at a time. It is a high end coffee maker that unfortunately would only brew about 6 ounces at a time. A call to engineering got that one quickly replaced. The engineering guy, Bob, was fast and efficient.

Resort Amenities - There are two grills - - one in the original section and one in the newer section. You are supposed to reserve the grills and to get some essentials from the clubhouse (like a wire cleaning brush, a lighter, etc.). There is a pool by the clubhouse and hot tubs as well. There is a single pool table at the clubhouse. I found USA today papers there too. On the edge of the property are a number of shops including a Starbucks (they don’t serve breakfast sandwiches though), some artsy shops, a clothing shop and a restaurant called Sound Bites. The view at the restaurant is absolutely gorgeous. The menu prices are what you would expect from a Hyatt - a bit on the high end. They had a happy hour in the bar with a small food menu. It was perfectly adequate and was attractively priced.

Parking is free, but for the area in which we were located, the parking filled in at night. I had to park a few hundred feet away.

The resort is built on a hill. So there are steps and walkways everywhere. If you have joint problems, this resort may be a bit of a challenge for you.

Size of Unit - the 1 BR unit was about 900 square feet. It had a nice patio with plenty of room for four chairs and a table. There was a plug in on the patio for the computer. They have a safe in the closet that was big enough that we could put both my netbook computer and my wife’s purse into it.

Condition of Unit, Resort Buildings, and Property - The property seems to be pretty well maintained. Our unit was very clean, including the patio furniture. The exterior stucco looked like it had been nicely repainted. The walls inside and the carpeting in the unit looked clean and fresh as did the furniture.

Staff Friendliness and Responsiveness - The staff seems very friendly, especially the front desk, doorman, and concierge. The activities center person was friendly but we were disappointed that a scheduled activity was cancelled (the talk on Hiking). She said that the Hiking guy hadn’t showed up in 2 weeks. I had her call the Hiking store and she learned that he isn’t giving talks until August. She complained that someone should have let her know. Strange that she didn’t bother calling herself.

Convenience to Area Attractions - This location is “primo” for Sedona. It is right in the middle of EVERYTHING.

Any problems encountered such as check-in problems, room changes, etc. - No problems encountered

Your opinion on numerical rating for the resort and why. I would probably give this resort a 9. It is well maintained, clean, quiet, and I can’t think of much else that I would want/need.

Planned Resort Activities such as welcome parties, barbecues, kid programs, and outings - they do not have a welcoming party. An associate let it slip that there was an owners function with wine and snacks but it wasn’t for exchangers and it wasn’t advertised.

Suitability of Resort for couples - Great! We noticed that there were only a few kids running around. Most of the guests/owners seemed a bit more senior.

Any Additional fees assessed - none

They have a happy hour special at the Sound Bites bar/grill on the property. During the happy hour they offer small appetizers at good prices. If you aren't terribly hungry and not looking for a couple thousand calories, it is quite satisfying. The bartender, Bruce, did a great job.

Room Tip: If you are exchanging, you will get exactly the same room that the owner deposited. But if you are renting by the night, ask for a room with a view. Most of the units on the higher floors have a view. The lower ones do not.

We are owners at this property and have been since it opened. Never have we been bothered by cigarette smoke, until now. We have not been able to use our outdoor patio as the customers downstairs have been smoking like chimneys! Here we are in the middle of a very lovely setting and cannot enjoy having breakfast on our patio! I called the first night when we arrived and were told that it wouldn't be a problem as they were leaving. Well they did and thankfully, not, they were replaced by another set of smokers! Mattresses do need to be replaced. For the annual fee of almost 900.00 charged to the owners, one should be able to count on a comfortable bed equal to a Hyatt hotel. I agree with others that customer service is surely lacking in this hotel. We are seriously considering selling our ownership share in this property as it no longer has the same standards imposed when it was originally built!

Room Tip: If smoke offends you, there is no way to guarantee it as smoking is allowed on patios

This resort has a great location within walking distance of all the restaurants and shops. We have a one bedroom spacious apartment with two balconies which take in great views. The kitchen is well appointed and the bathroom is very spacious with large shower and spa bath
