“Romantic luxury”
Reviewed 27 June 2008

This is one of the BEST bed and breakfasts we have ever stayed at. The proprietors go out of their way to make you feel like you are at home and by the time you leave you feel like they are close family friends. They cook your breakfasts to order so you can have anything you want for breakfast (which are scrumptious and look like they came out of a Bon Apetite magazine!). The rooms are large, luxurious, CLEAN, and the views are spectacular.
The bathroom is always an important part of my stay, and you will not be disappointed with the bathroom. A large sunken tub with jets again with spectacular views. The shower is large enough for 8 people! There are 2 shower heads and a place to sit. The property is within walking distance to Cathedral Rock and there a several areas just to sit within the property itself. It is close to town, but far enough away to have the peace and quiet you might enjoy.
You will not be disappointed if you stay here, I promise you!

I can't understand why this B & B is not rated #1 in Sedona....

From the moment we arrived to the last turn we took out of the driveway to leave the Sedona Cathedral Hideaway, Larry and Kathy (Host/Hostess) made us feel just like family, but treated us like Royalty. Everything from their kitchen was made with "my heart" in mind.... not only was it healthy and delicious, it was presented with such tender loving care... Their wealth of knowledge about Sedona and it's surrounding area is enough to fill the Grand Canyon alone.. It's obvious why everyone gives them 5's..... they certainly deserve it!

Sedona, Arizona is the most beautiful place in the world. Since you get there the red rocks salute you with a lovely and intense huge. This is like coming to other world no matter where you have been before. The energies of the place keep you up and looking for more and more and when is time to leave you don't want to. It is like the earth is calling you back to continue enjoying you as part of her.

And if you want to stay at an enchanted place, stay at Sedona Cathedral Hideway. From the entrance, the room, the magic Cathedral Rock view, the creek, the birds, the flowers and the special treatment from the owners-hosts, the whole place is magical.

If you want to have an unforgetable methaphisical experience, this is the place. You will find more that what I have said here. If you want to, you can find the magical, and the embracing love of this place that sparks you to find the beauty of your heart.

My husband and I just returned to Albuquerque from a week in Sedona for our honeymoon re-do. Since our original honeymoon was so bad, we decided to do it again and I had several stipulations for the perfect trip: 1. no children 2. no crowds or lots of people 3. no flying 4. no foreign language or currency to deal with. This is exactly what we got when we stayed with Kathy and Larry at the Sedona Cathedral Hideaway. They do not allow children unless the family is booking both suites, so we were in peace the entire week. Besides all of the fabulous amenities and breakfasts that are available, Kathy and Larry really made our stay comfortable because they are so friendly and easy to trust (no strange maid coming into your room). They are easy to talk to and have a great sense of humor. If you need or want anything, all you have to do is ask and they will be happy to accommodate you. Truly, their hideaway was the most peaceful, relaxing place we could have stayed.

One of the best amenities was the Red Rock Pass that gets you access to almost all of the parks/trails in the area for free (otherwise we would have spent quite a bit of money for the entrance fees to all of these parks). For us, it was great because we did so much hiking (they even packed us a little lunch for our trip to the Grand Canyon!). Kathy and Larry can give you fantastic recommendations to all of the area attractions. Since we stayed a week, we were given complimentary spa treatments by Kathy. All of them were great and she has a wealth of knowledge about skin care that she is very willing to share.

Since this is a bed and breakfast, I should talk a little about the breakfasts...anything goes, anything you want. We even gave Kathy and Larry some new ideas for different dishes. We ate inside and outside and saw many different kinds of wildlife while we dined (lots of birds, including a roadrunner!). Everything is fresh and organic and cooked exactly how you want it.

This was, by far, our best vacation ever. If we would have chosen a regular hotel or resort, we would have been surrounded by people and children and would not have gotten the peace we were searching for. If you are looking for peace, relaxation, pampering, and romance, Sedona Cathedral Hideaway is the place to be!

Cathedral Hideaway is a lovely, luxurious bed and breakfast in Sedona Arizona, tucked away in an area that has remained a bit remote--remote enough for privacy. The innkeepers Kathy and Larry were warm and funny and hospitality was their focus. The house itself is amazing. Views of Cathedral Rock from every room, high vaulted ceilings, gorgeous tile and hardwood throughout the home, and attention to detail that any traveler or weekend reveler will appreciate.

The Evergreen Room, where we stayed, boasts a gas fireplace that is visible from the bed, the shower, the sitting area, or even the jacuzzi tub. The bed is a queen with a mattress that allows you to adjust your firmness for each side. The jacuzzi tub, big enough for two, is set in an archway and pillars inside the room. The shower has two heads, and you could get six people inside it. The door to the shower is about ten feet high, clear glass. All of the fixtures are perfection, including the sinks, which sport faucets that look like the old-fashioned pumps people had in the 1800's. The room also has a sound system with all sorts of stations, a jack to use your ipod with the sound system, a flat screen TV with hundreds of satellite channels, complimentary food items (cookies, chocolates, pretzels, etc.), a good sized refrigerator stocked with water and soda, a walk in closet big enough to be a small bedroom, and lush robes and slippers.

The outdoor patio off our room had gravity chairs and other patio furniture so that you could sit out and watch the stars. Beside each door of the facility were flashlights and thick blankets to wrap up in for the evening coolness. Below our patio was another patio that had a giant chess set, a fire pit, and flower gardens. The entire property is stunning, from the labyrinth that Larry built by hand, to Kathy's rose bushes and bird feeders.

Both hosts are marvelous chefs, and we ate more food than I could have imagined. We're not talking continental breakfast, we're talking gourmet masterpieces. I had puff pastries with poached eggs, crab meat, artichoke hearts, and hollandaise sauce, with a side of bacon, juice, espresso, and fresh sliced mango the first morning. I chose these items off of a menu that has photos of the choices, and there are so many, you could never try them all. A sampling includes fruit smoothies, waffles, french toast, oatmeal, egg and vegetable pizzas, omelettes, etc. Dietary restrictions are no problem, and my companion, who cannot tolerate dairy, still got a fruit smoothie, crepes that were thin and hot and perfect, and fresh blueberries, strawberries, and bananas to fill those crepes. Cinnamon rolls, a variety of juices, several meat choices, and eggs any way you can conceive of them round out the menu. In the afternoon, you can snack on belgian chocolates, Larry's homemade banana ice cream (to DIE for), or various pastries.

Everything about this B&B whispers of pampering, indulgence, pleasure, and relaxation. Kathy took us on a guided tour of the property and walked us to the park that is about an eighth of a mile from their land, a park that has trails to Cathedral Rock itself. The hiking was marvelous, complete with horses and their riders thundering into the pools of Oak Creek. The sound of water caresses all the guests of the B&B, because there is an elegant fountain out front, a dolphin rearing on its fluke, water coming from its rostrum. The sculpture is, like everything else at Cathedral Hideaway, opulent and at the same time, grounded and down to earth.

Kathy and Larry are fascinating people, and we spent a good bit of time talking to them about our lives and theirs. Kathy gives spa treatments in one room of the house, though we didn't avail ourselves of one, and massages are also available for purchase. They also know all the best restaurants in Sedona, and graciously made reservations for us to hike at Palatki, an Indian Ruin in West Sedona that requires advance notice to the park service. Larry and Kathy also throw in such amenities as detailed descriptions of the history of the area, parking passes that allow you entrance to all the parks and scenic overlooks during your stay, singing gorillas to serenade you at breakfast, and Kathy's own line of facial and skin products.

We spent two nights at the B&B and it was the most romantic place I've ever been. We fell in love with it, and intend to go back as soon as we have good excuse. There is no such thing as cheap lodging in Sedona, and if you're going to go, spend the extra money and try Cathedral Hideaway. I've been to half a dozen lodgings in Sedona, from a five star resort to budget hotels, and nothing compares to this place.

I booked our week vacation at the Sedona Cathedral Hideaway because of the wonderful comments I read on TripAdvisor about this B&B. This B&B and the owners (Kathy and Larry) made our trip a memorable experience and it exceeded all of our expectations. It is a luxury B&B with the most beautiful view of Cathedral Rock from every angle of the house and it's beautifully furnished (but it's not fru fru). Everything is plush with soft linens, blankets and towels and very comfortable furnishings, and it's immaculately clean. We stayed in the Safari Room and it was beautiful with the surround fireplace, king-size bed, tub and shower for two. Kathy and Larry have thought of every detail to make the rooms and common areas comfortable. We had a private balcony and also used both of the two other large decks, depending on the angle of the sun. Kathy and Larry provided a truly gourmet breakfast each morning and we could designate the time and location of our breakfast, depending on our schedule. Believe me, we didn't miss one breakfast on this trip. They also helped us with referrals on things to do, restaurants and provided directions and maps and Kathy booked an in-room massage for me. We had a wonderful experience hiking several trails and taking a hot air balloon ride and spent one day at the Grand Canyon. Before we left for the Grand Canyon, Kathy and Larry packed fruit and power bars for us and let us use their binoculars. These are truly nice people who welcome you into their home for a relaxing and wonderful stay. My husband and I really needed a week of R&R and we got it at the Sedona Cathedral Hideaway. The place is beautiful but Kathy and Larry make it an outstanding destination.

This was our first trip to Sedona, and I have to say this was the best possible way for us to celebrate our anniversary. Larry and Kathy made our short two days at their B&B absolute paradise. They really do think of everything and make you feel unique and special every minute you are there.

If you really want a truly romantic getaway experience of a lifetime, don't waste your time at some crowded resort.....check in at Sedona Cathedral Hideaway. It is surrounded by nature and majestic beauty that will make you feel like new. There are so many things to do and see in Sedona and Larry and Kathy let you in on some of the best kept secrets and will even take you to the best viewing locations of Cathedral Rock, which you can see right from their home. Genuine hospitality and total concern for their guests dreams and desires is just a little bit of what is offered.

The Evergreen room is, well, AWESOME! From the minute we rang the doorbell to the time we drove away, we were taken wonderful care of. We will return to Sedona for a longer stay next time and look forward to seeing Larry and Kathy again. Oh, and I guess I should feel compelled to tell you, the breakfasts.......whatever you want, you get. Plain and simple, and Larry makes homemade ice cream that is to die for. One word of advice.....stay longer than two days. You won't regret it!
