“Great Getaway!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 January 2014

What a terrific New Year's Eve we had a Xanadu Ranch! Karen and Bernie were amazing hosts and welcomed us with open arms. We stayed in the 'Bunkhouse' and the accommodations were perfect. The room was clean and decorated with a cowboy theme, inside and out. The ranch was so peaceful and took me back to my days in Texas. Just a few minutes away from the local wineries, we toured and tasted with the local vineyard owners and learned how quickly this remote area is becoming a new southern Arizona attraction.

Go visit Karen and Bernie. You'll love it!

We needed a place to stay when we drive to our condo on the beach in Mexico from Albuquerque and we initially chose Xanadu Ranch because of their location (it allows us to break the trip in half) and their pets policy. But Xanadu proved to be so much more... It is the kind of place that you (at least I) hope to find when travelling. It is the kind of place that makes traveling fun. We've been guests at Xanadu twice already, and each time we stayed in different rooms. Each room has its own character, each room is lovely and unique due to the tasteful furniture and art. But, what makes Xanadu so special is the owners: Karen and Bernie. They are so attentive without smothering. They are kind, and they think of everything, every detail and possible need of their guests, that you start to feel as if you are really "home" - from the water and snacks for the dog that they leave waiting for you when you check in, to the home made green cleaning products that you find in the kitchen - this is an absolutely otherworldly experience, and we recommend it to everyone.

We totally enjoyed our stay at Xanadu and loved our hosts, Bernie and Karen. It was the first and second nights of our week vacation and we loved it. We had a full kitchen and were able to cook each day. Everything worked great and the bed was really comfy. We had a great view off our deck in the Bunkhouse and would highly recommend staying there. Sonny and Ebony were happy to enjoy carrots with us and were very sweet. We visited Parker Lake and a few of the wineries close by. We took a great walk in the neighborhood and it was beautiful! Thanks for a great stay!

Room Tip: The Bunkhouse was wonderful with a great deck off the back.

I needed a place to take some astronomy manufacturing friends from Italy to try out some of their equipment and the Sonoita area was recommended by a friend of mine in Tucson. Looking around I found a number of good reviews of the Zanadu Ranch and the location appeared to be perfect for our purpose. The owners are very friendly and the accommodations were great. For star gazers there is a concrete patio located next to the bunk house with excellent views both east and west and good views north and south. There is also outside electrical right there on the side of the bunk house. There are very few lights in the area and the ranch is located well off the road. The owners were happy to turn the outside lights off to help our viewing and imaging. We were able to leave out equipment out all night and all day with no worries. It was very quiet so sleeping a lot during the day was no problem at all.

For those people looking to do a little star gazing or astro imaging under excellent dark skies with comfortable accommodations that you can fall right into just steps away, this is the place to go. We plan to be back next year.

We chose this ranch for my birthday celebration based on location in the peaceful rolling grasslands around Sonoita and proximity to adventure hiking in the Mustang Mountains. First off, we were warmly greeted by the hosts Bernie and Karen who made us feel immediately at home, even with our feisty hound Phoebe who just loves to run free. Our room was immaculate and the adjacent Koi pond with BBQ area perfect for meditation and enjoyment of fine grilled steaks. We were content to hike the grassy fields and leave the stress of frenetic city life behind. Xanadu Ranch is truly a special place in southern Arizona for those seeking rejuvenation in most harmonious surroundings.

Beautiful setting and the rooms were very nice and had everything we needed. Friendly folks to boot. You can't beat Arizon's wine country in the Fall and Xanadu is a top place to stay. We hit the wineries and the Wilcox Wine Festival on Saturday and came back to really comfortable rooms at the end of the day. Watching the moonrise over the Mustang Mountains was breathtaking, and our "balcony" looked right that way to the east. Highly recommend!

What a place. Wide open spaces, mountain views, horses and a good bed. Had our breakfast by the koi pond, watched the humming birds and listened to the quiet. You are close to Sonoita, but you would never know it. Several wineries around to go tasting at, all very good. No rush to get anywhere, just a nice slow pace. You can take horses there and an RV. Go riding in the National Forest. Great people to greet you and make you feel welcome.
