Our 4-day stay at the Marriott Buttes could not have been better! The scenery and layout were spectacular, the accomodations spacious, and the hotel employees were helpful, friendly, and seemed like they enjoyed working there! We experienced a vacation that "exceeded" our expectations. If you're looking for fun, sun and relaxation, we highly recommend you book a room at the Buttes!

Got a great AAA rate. Excellent service from the valets and front desk at checkin. Rooms are large and clean. Hotel is on a hill and has nice views of the surrounding area. Very quiet area. Two large pools connected by a small channel and multiple hot tubs. Requested adjacent connecting rooms since we were traveling with an extended group and they accommodated the request. Breakfast in the restaurant was reasonably priced for the type of hotel and was quick and convenient. Front desk recommended a pizza place that delivered and it was one of the best pizzas we have had anywhere. Even though we were just stopping for the night on our way to the Grand Canyon, we didn't want to leave.

Stayed 3 nights at this property because of it's proximity to the ASU campus in Tempe. I traveled there for graduation. My 85 year old mother was with me. This property is very quirky. The lobby is located on top of the butte. I do not believe there are any guest rooms in that building. After checking in I was asked to follow a bellhop in a golf cart who would show me where to park my car. We drove down the butte to a building that was 3 stories high with several outside entrances - very much like a Hampton Inn set up. It was self parking - in spite of a $10 a night parking fee. The first room we were shown to was on the first floor adjacent to the parking area entrance. It was dark, view was that of parked cars. Asked for another room. Once I saw how many stairs needed to be navigated to the pool area I requested a room closer to pool. After waiting several hours was given a room on second floor but no closer to pool than first room. Again view was that of parking lot. The hotel appears pretty old. The hallways are very dark with little natural light. The grounds were interesting but there was no way to get to the pool without walking up stairs. Once at the pool - more stairs to the outside resturant. And even more stairs to get up to the lobby area. This resort is not for you if you are traveling with an elderly person or a stroller. Pool towels were small and thin - cheap. Pool service was excellent, food average. I had a AAA rate of $104 a night plus the parking fee and taxes. Two nights I had to park very far from the entrance. The hotel removed the parking fee when i asked. I moved to another hotel in Tempe for the last 2 nights of my stay - Mission Palms and would highly recommend that if you are there for an ASU event.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. Your feedback is much appreciated and very helpful indeed. Our unique property does have a beautifully different atmosphere and set up. The resort itself wraps around The Butte. Stairs are definitely an easy way to navigate through our beautifully landscaped facility, but of course not the only route. We do hope that when you did need assistance locating something that one of our friendly associates were there to assist with your every need.
I do apologize if the parking fee was a shock. We do not however have a resort fee at our property and find that the parking fee is reasonable compared to the average Resort Fee charge.
Again your feedback is much appreciated.

Thank you,
Michelle Shelstead

My husband and I spent a night at the Buttes before flying back to Atlanta. We loved the pool area and spread-out hot tubs. We enjoyed some cocktails at the pool. We also loved the added touch of always available cucumber and orange infused water and coffee/tea in the morning throughout the lobbies. The location is conveniently located close to the airport and the highway. It still feels like a remote resort. The room was comfy, not huge but nicely decorated.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the pool.

This is a classic resort and could not be built today. Built into the side of mountain there is a real charm to this place. The staff was outstanding. Once you get used to the layout (and the steps - there are a lot of steps) you can really feel you are in a special place even though you are in the heart of the congestion of Tempe. Excellent spa services and food at every restaurant.

Room Tip: Ask to be in the newest building

We stayed here overnight during a brief stay in phx using a discount rate. For what we paid it was a nice hotel with a great pool area. Our only issue was when we asked for a late checkout (our flight didn't leave until the evening and we wanted to spend the day by the pool) we were only give an extra hour and were told to be out of the room by 1pm. Given it was a Fri. morning and the hotel was very quiet we were surprised they couldn't be more flexible.

Thank you for your time in writing a review. We do apologize we could not be more accommodating for you in allowing you to stay in the room, on nights we are sold out we can not give as late of a check out as we would like, but we welcome any guest that would still like to spend time at the resort, and use the fitness center, relax by the waterfall in the pool, or even in the lobby bar area and watch television and surf the web.

The rooms here really need some updating. We found the beds to be quite uncomfortable and you could barely make out a picture on the television. The pool area is nice, but $9.50 for a pina colada was a bit much.

The location was nice as was the scenery. Otherwise, its really just an overpriced hotel.
