“Pure magic - support TCEC!”

Turtle Conservation and Education Centre
Reviewed 17 August 2014

As others have said, this is a wonderful conservation center where local volunteers are working hard to conserve sea turtles. For us (two adults and one child) the visit was pure magic. It was wonderful seeing all the baby turtles and releasing our three selected baby turtles into the ocean. While we were there, hundreds of Balinese school children were learning about sea turtle conservation. It is a great spot, with ties to WWF, that is worth supporting and a highlight of our trip. It is a quick ride from Sanur (15 min) - no need to go on an organized trip. Hop in a taxi or get a driver to take you there - but make sure you are at a place that clearly says TCEC and is associated with WWF. If they ask for an entry fee or if there are small enclosures, you are in the wrong place!

All the low star reviews on this listing are referring to a tourist trap located nearby - there are no small enclosures or photo ops at this center. This is a true conservation center that rescues turtle eggs from the busy nearby beaches so they have a chance of hatching and survival. A great opportunity for tourists to support local leaders and local conservation and have a great time doing it! They also provide volunteer opps for those interested.

This review is for the turtle conservation and education centre (TCEC) in serangan. We have heard of other turtle places that charge to get in and hence the the turtles in cruel conditions. This is not the case at TCEC!! Make sure you get to the right one: We hired a driver and asked him to take us there. He didn't know where it was but serangan is not big and after 5 minutes of driving around we found it. There is no cost to get in! We were greeted by a volunteer who took us to the hatchery. We were able to dig into the sand and help the turtles that had just been born to the surface. We then took them to a tank. Next we went to a large pool where some large green sea turtles were. These turtles had swallowed plastic bags and were staying here until they were well enough to go back to the sea. We were able to touch the turtles and feed them fish. We then visited more turtles with injuries. Some were being nursed to health and some were to ill to return to the sea. The volunteers were very informative and cared greatly for the turtles. We gave a donation and also paid to adopt a turtle. For 200000rp each we adopted baby turtles and took them to the beach to release them into the sea. This place is amazing and should not be missed when visiting Bali!! It is supported by the WWF and do great work. It was an amazing experience to get so close to the turtles.

Turtle conservation ande education centre in sarangnan isn't as well known as the other one but I can only advise everyone to go here. The people who volunteer here do a great job breeding and releasing the turtles. The little ones are very cute and it felt great to release them into the ocean; where they belong. I don't support animal captivity and cruelty in any way so it was great to see people with the same states of minds here. There are big turtles that can't return into the ocean, they keep them there and educate people like us :) There was a girl who showed us around and told us all about the turtles and the work they do. Any true animal lover will like this experience. Also, they don't ask for anything, make sure to adopt a baby turtle and make a donation :)

The place is a bit hidden. I went there with my family (with 3 kids), we like make a big round before we reach the place. The kids are really happy to be there. They busy taking picture and touch the turtles.

At first I thought the place is close because nobody there but then there's a guy (forgot his name) who welcome us and start to explain about the turtles. You can pick up the turtle from their cage and take picture with them. Don't know whether the turtle will be stress which so many noise and people pick them up every time? But hopefully no. Because when I went to Gili Trawangan and visited small turtle conservation, they write down a sign not make noise and don't touch the turtles so they won't be stress.

Nevertheless, the guide gave us a lot of explanation about the turtles. We also feed the big turtle. Seems like they were very hungry. You can adopt the small turtle and they will give you certificate, and you can release them to the sea. We chose to adopt the turtle and need to pay 100k rupiah. But if you don't want to adopt them, just give donation will do.

Nice place and give me more explanation about the turtles.
