“Unique and Memorable”

We stayed at the Tombstone Monument Guest Ranch for three nights and enjoyed it so much that we wished we could have stayed for at least three more.

The hotel rooms make up a mock Western main street complete with electric lanterns as outside lighting and rocking chairs set outside the room doors out on the boardwalk where you can sit-a-spell and enjoy the scenery. Our room was a two bedroom with a very comfortable bathroom equipped with a large walk-in shower. We were able to sleep very comfortably with the windows open and the ceiling fan on but there is an in-room thermostat for when the temperatures get higher. Listening to the sounds of the desert while falling asleep was lovely.

The Saloon building also contains the office and dining room. We had delicious breakfasts there every morning. Bacon, ham, scrambled eggs, hash browns, biscuits and gravy, assorted fresh fruit, yogurt and breads for toasting along with coffee, tea and/or orange juice were among the foods offered. There was also a selection of cold cereals available. The two dinners we had there were also very nice. Individual fresh salads, chicken breast with wild rice one night, pork chops with stuffing the next night and a dessert as well. Then drinks and games at the Saloon. On one night they had live musical entertainment and it was great fun.

The staff are all incredibly nice, knowledgeable and helpful. The Ranch has quite a few horses available for all skill levels of riding and the horses all look very well cared for. It was nice to be able to walk down to the corrals just to pet them. You can also take the opportunity to go target shooting with some cowboy-style firearms. The gentlemen in charge of this excursion emphasize safety and cater to all experience levels.

The Ranch is only about two miles from the town of Tombstone but you would never know it. It is so peaceful and quiet you could easily pretend you were 100's of miles away from the nearest town. It's a little piece of heaven,

When we booked our room we were unaware that you could also pre-book meals. If you don't take advantage of this you can also pre-book meals at the office ahead of time with enough notice as the chef only cooks enough for confirmed guests.

Be aware that there is a "Tombstone Tax" charged upon check out.

We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at the Tombstone Monument Guest Ranch and I have nothing but good memories about the experience. A huge thank you to Michelle and all the rest of the staff for doing such a great job!

We stayed 2 nights. It was so nice to get away and enjoy the quiet. Our room was perfect. The bathroom was quite modern. We wished we had a tub that big at home. Everyone there was very pleasant. We stayed at several hotels throughout our 8 day vacation out west and this one was the best.

Formerly the Apache Spirit Ranch and under new ownership, this ranch offers a unique experience for people of multiple interests. Although we do enjoy horses and horseback riding, we chose to stay here for several days mainly because it seemed like a good place to relax after a tough northeastern winter yet was near other places we could visit if we wanted.

What we found was a place that seems remote (although only 2 miles from Tombstone itself), is staffed by very friendly people who go out of their way to make you feel welcome, a one-of-a-kind room (the Miss Kitty Room in our case), and amazing food. Plus the peace of the surrounding high desert.

In addition to twice-a-day horseback rides, the ranch offers a weekly movie night (Old West movies favored), a chuck wagon breakfast outdoors once a week, an evening campfire, a trail to the nearby Tombstone monument itself, and a great view of the Dragoon Mountains to the east.

But we didn't really discover the best thing about the ranch until after we were there: its convenient location to many others places that we thoroughly enjoyed. We love nature, especially birds, and ended up spending a lot of time at several sites with a 45-minute drive or less. These included Ramsey Canyon, Garden Canyon on Fort Huachuca (which is open to the public), the San Pedro Riparian Conservation Area, and the San Pedro House, which has great trails along the river and one huge cottonwood tree! We came up with about 100 kinds of birds in our five days there. Of course, we visited Tombstone itself, and wanted to go to Bisbee but ran out of time.

We chose the breakfast and dinner plan, which turned out to be ideal because we were off exploring most days. You pay extra for horseback rides this way, but we were not going to ride frequently anyway. By the way, the wranglers are about as close to "real" cowboys as I've seen. The downside is that they aren't very talkative, though friendly enough if you ask questions. (But a female wrangler came on board at the end of our stay who seemed much more outgoing.)

Yes, there were some people there doing the pretend-to be-a-cowboy/cowgirl thing (one was a couple from Germany) with the full get-up (good for business in Tombstone). Even that was kind of fun. But if you want the feel of being away from things but the convenience of being close to many other interesting sites, we recommend this ranch. Indeed, it is a great central location for birders and nature enthusiasts as well as those interested in history.

Room Tip: If you want to sit out front and enjoy the surrounding desert, get an end room. Some rooms have pati...

We recently went on a driving tour of Arizona and Tombstone was on the agenda. My wife found the Tombstone Monument Guest Ranch (formerly Apache Spirit Ranch) online and it looked so cool that we decided to stay a second night. Without going for the all-inclusive aspect, it was comparably priced to any hotel - with a heaping helping of character. Since we had already planned our visit (half a day in Tombstone, and a full day of hiking at Chiricahua) we decided not to partake in the all inclusive package, which includes breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as acitivities such as horse-back riding (twice a day), archery, and shooting. The rooms are simple, but gorgeously themed as old west fixtures, such as the jail, courthouse, bordello, or, as we stayed in, stagecoach. The Ranch sits on an unpaved (rough!) road just a few minutes outside of Tombstone which gives it a nice secluded feel. The Trappman saloon is also gorgeously done as an old west saloon and offers a full bar, plus great draft prices. We had breakfast there twice and took a trail ride before leaving. The wrangler, Dave, was personable, courteous, and helpful with just enough wry wit to keep us smiling. We loved it and will likely return! Although Tombstone will not likely hold your attention for more than a day two, lounging at the ranch and enjoying the pool (in the summer - its not heated!), shooting, riding, playing poker and billiards and hanging out at the bonfire makes for a great get-away! The only other thing I could ask for is a second shower head in the spacious shower stalls and a pillow-top on the mattress.

My son and I spent some time at the Tombstone Monument Ranch recently and had so much fun that we didn't want to leave. The staff is phenomenal, the food is good (we never went hungry and there's always fabulous homemade cookies in the cookie jar), the price is extremely reasonable and the Old West look is so awesome. There's a pool table in the Saloon that we spent a great deal of time at, and also cards and board games available for guests. I love that they only let vehicles park near the rooms to load and unload so that it doesn't take away from the Old West feel. (The parking area takes less than a minute to walk to.) I also really enjoyed reading out in front of our room in the rocking chair.

The rides are slow, just walking, so they are very relaxing. However, Cody took us on one very amazing ride, off the path and cross-country. It was bordering on terrifying, but that's what made it SO MUCH FUN! That ride was the highlight of my trip.

It's easy to get to the ranch from the Tucson Airport (approx. 70 minute drive), and it's so close to Tombstone that you can easily go spend time there, too. The only negatives were: 1) My bed squeaked horribly, and my son's bed had a low spot in it that he kept falling into. 2) The lighting at the bathroom sink/mirror is very dim. But honestly, these are just minor things. I can't stop thinking about this trip. I really hope that I get the chance to go back, and I will recommend Tombstone Monument Ranch to all my friends and family!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Blacksmith Shop, which is on the end. It was nice not having anyone to one side of...

This was by far the best place we have stayed at in our life. Usally after a long vacation we are ready to go home, not here. It was sad to go. We stayed in a two bedroom suite, exceptionally clean and we never had to ask for things to keep our room stocked. Everyone is friendly and the ranch is the most beautiful thing we have ever seen. We cannot wait to come back again one day
