“Perfect and Beautiful!”
Reviewed 3 July 2012

I stayed at Villas Alturas for 8 days with family and friends and our stay could not have better. Cindy and David are excellent hosts with a great deal of knowledge to share about Dominical and the surrounding areas. The food is exceptional and the accommodations are superb! The views are breathtaking and will no doubt leave you in awe. I fell in love with Costa Rica and the beautiful things it has to offer. My stay in Costa Rica was life changing and everything about Villas Alturas contributed to my new found piece of mind!

- Pura Vida!

Room Tip: All of the Villas are exceptional and have breathtaking views.

Aside from having all the modern conveniences one can expect, the highly perched location overlooking the pacific ocean and its surroundings was astounding. Our hosts Cindy and Dave were wonderful. Dave was exceptionally accommodating and his friendly and inviting demeanor, along with his homemade lasagna, made us feel welcomed, relaxed and added to our special experience. Yes the drive up the hill was challenging, but after doing it once, it became subsequently easier. The unexpected and added benefit was the excellent bird viewing right from our veranda at sunset. We saw at least 15 species of birds, including 2 types of Toucans. It was incredible!

We recently returned from a trip to Costa Rica and had the pleasure of staying at the Villas Alturas. We drove from San Jose through the cloud forest and had no problem finding the property. The drive up to the property is steep, but by the second time up and down, becomes second nature. I do agree with most of the reviews recommending a four wheel drive vehicle. The property is relaxing and tranquil. The rooms were welcoming and comfortable. We viewed toucans, humming birds, monkey’s right on the property. We spent a lot of time reading reviews online and truly can’t say one bad thing about Villas Alturas. David and Cindy treated us like family. They gave us great recommendations for us to explore.

The hotel with the BEST view we have ever been to!!! Although driving up to the hotel issome what uncomfortable it is very much worth it!! Initially we planned to stay for three nights, but stayed one more night, it was just too hard to leave. David is a great host, made us feel special with every breakfast, pleasant company and gave us great tips for beautiful places to visit. The villas are very spacious, well organized and clean. The stay is not cheap, but the view, the villa and the hospitality are worth it!

Room Tip: Villa number 3!!!

My husband and I, our baby and another couple stayed here for one night before we went to a villa nearby for a wedding where we stayed the rest of our visit.

Before we arrived at Villas Alturas, we had traveled for 18 hours total with a 4 month old (yah we are a little crazy, I like to call it adventurous) and we were absolutely exhausted. It was a bit hard to find because we weren't used to the rocky, steep, long, dirt roads, and we thought we were going up the wrong road. The road was steep and the villas on the way up looked as if nobody used them so mid-way up we made a U-turn on the drive and went back down the highway. We drove up and down the highway and then finally went back up the long drive. Finally we got to the top and found Villas Alturas. We had rented a 4-wheel-drive small SUV and we are so glad we did because it was a must for us during our stay in Costa Rica.

It was like a huge sigh of relief when we got there because it was so beautiful and peaceful. The views are breathtaking and the grounds were immaculate. The managers were very nice and laid back. We had the upper 2-bedroom suite on the top-most villa building. It was very comfortable and the bedrooms have air-conditioners. The bed was very comfortable and we slept very well. The suite has a living area and kitchen, also.

We had dinner there that night and we all enjoyed our meal, though it was a bit pricey. I had the mussel soup and it was delicious! We saw toucans and monkeys and beautiful flowers and interesting insects. I would highly recommend this place because of how beautiful and well kept it is and how nice the managers were. It was worth the bumpy, long ride up there!

Our group of 13 recently had the pleasure of staying with Dave and Fransisco for 6 days. My extended family likes to travel together, but we range in age from 13 to 72. That can make accomodations and activities challenging. Dave and Fransisco made it look easy. They set up horseback riding, zip-lining, and surf lessons and even gave us directions to a fantastic local waterfall on an unplanned free day. They had breakfast every morning and great recommendations to local restaurants on the nights they didn't fix dinner for us. (It was green season and the restaurant wasn't open to the public) It's never easy taking 13 people anyplace, but I didn't hear a single complaint about the villas or their fantastic service. Seriously, not one. Dave even packed a cooler and gave us chairs to take to the beach. I can't think of anything he could have done that would have made the trip better. The driveway would be a challenge without a 4x4, but come prepared and it isn't an issue. Bring your camera, the Villas back up to mango trees and white faced monkeys visited on 2 afternoons. The view from the pool is stunning. The Villas are clean and comfortable, but it is the service that sets this place above the rest. Visit, you won't regret it.

This place was awesome! The views were amazing, the villas huge, and David and Francisco were very helpful. We had a party of 5 people and wanted a 2 bedroom villa, but there was a large party the 1st night we were there so it wasnt available. They allowed us to stay in 2 seperate villas the 1 st night, and then helped us change rooms for the other days we were there. David made an amazing breakfast, and was constantly helpful in offering stuff to do, chairs for the beach, etc. The road is a little rough getting up there, but how else would you get that view! On the last night we decided to use the full kitchen to make dinner for ourselves and David helped us out by offering some extra spices and pots he had in the main kitchen.
