Our room was broken in to.
We returned to the room after dinner to find the handle break off when we tried the key. After calling the manager he came and called a worked to open the lock with a folding knife. I said, "Fue un ladron!" There was a thief" He insisted it was "un accidente." However the bags had been opened and run through. It appeared at first that nothing was taken, he shifted the group to another room with a better lock and we stayed for that night and another. However when checking on line it showed one credit card had indeed been stolen, and used that night 100 miles north. Then my friend found on her return to eh states that her credit card number had been stolen also, and $3000 charged on her bank account. That card was never used in Costa Rica and had been hidden as a reserve in her bag. When we discovered credit cards had been stolen the manager still insisted there had been an accident, not a robbery! I found out later that 2 Costa Rican friends who used to work in Dominical had many stories about robberies at the Diuwak. Unfortunately it had been the only hotel with any rooms available at the last minute. I would never stay at the place again nor would I ever recommend the place.More
