Cuna De Angel has amazing food, architecture and ambience. It's just not worth the price. The food and the lemonades are good. Its a good break from Dominical when you want to eat something amazing.

However, its like a spa resort and this business model is so hard to do in Costa Rica because Ticos are underpaid, there is a high turnover know little about spa treatments and high customer service.

I remember the hairstylist doing janitorial work until some girl would dare get their hair styled. The quality was upscale tico but the price was hundreds. My girl-friend was crying for days. But, hey its pretty much common sense not to get your hair cut in a foreign country. But, hey, we were living there. We had no choice.

The European boss is nice. The spa treatments are probable cost one more star than they are worth. But, hey its Costa Rica. There is an American Massage therapist at Villas Rio Mar who might do it for cheaper. I am not recommending that place either.

Cuna does not have much of a view either. Jungle blocks the path to the ocean.

I also heard that the hotel rooms would get too much noise from the highway that it is adjacent to.

The pool however, seems peaceful and the landscaping and primary rainforest surrounding it is top rate.

It is a 10 minute drive to Dominical. It is too far to walk it.

This is a place you visit for brunch or dinner. It's not a place you stay overnight at. Its just too expensive for the ammenities.

This place was amazing! It is set about 10 minutes away from Dominical, which at first was disappointing, but then we realized that the town of Dominical is dead at night anyways. The jungle room is fairly small and we were a bit taken back in the beginning, but it ended up being very intimate and romantic. We fell in love with this place. We loved the crabs, the food, the monkey, the sounds of the jungle, the staff and the overall comfort. Tom, the owner, was so helpful and what every business owner should be-service oriented. If we were to do Dominical again, this is the place we would come to first! We stayed for four nights but could've stayed the entire week..go there! You won't regret it.

If you were running a small hotel this is the way you would do it. The owners are onsite and involved in every detail. The rooms are nice, spacious, and clean. The grounds are like a park. The restaurant is genuinely 5 star. Very nice breakfast buffet is included. A great value. Highly recommended.

We stayed for two nights and it was very nice and quite, just watch out for crabs outside.
The young lady working at the desk was very sweet and helpful. The restaurant served delicious food at a reasonable price, and we met the owner, Tom, and his wife, and they were super friendly.
I would definitely recommend Hotel Cuna del Angel to fellow travelers.

Well to me this place has always been a great place. The owner, Tom is a great person. We had our wedding in the area, actually at my own place down the road. But we had the family dinner there, with about 30 people, the food was great! the attention, the details. It was a great event! It was a great start to our wedding! The best part was yet to come, the next day we had some road closure and my wife to be was not able to get her hair person to this side of the road, Cuna del Angel open the doors to her and gave her the full royal treatment! Sindy looked wonderful!

The place is a ten all around. the food, the spa, the rooms! location. close to everything... Ballena Marine National Park, Dominical...

thank you amigos for everything!

Geinier!

The previous posts have said it well! This is the best!!! I have given an honest rating of 5 stars for all categories. Ana and all the other staff took very good care of us and made sure our special al fresco anniversary dinner was an event to remember... even with the gentle rain!( at which they immediately scrambled to bring an umbrella for our table!)
We also found the spa to be a special delight and Raquel (Rachel) is simply the best!!! Very professional. From the immaculate housekeeping (adding their special touches of flowers and decorative towel arrangements) to handling our special diet requests, Cuna del Angel provided excellent service. We hope to return someday!

On a whim, we took the crazy road to Domincal and missed the town, continuing to head toward Dominicalito. We saw a sign for Cuna del Angel and said, "let's check it out", plus it was recommended in the book "New Key to Costa Rica". We were pleasantly surprised to find a 5 star hotel nestled in the jungle near the beach. We walked in and were greeted quite enthusiastically by Ana and Angelica, who were very friendly and helpful, and kind in offering us a discounted rate for a Standard room for the evening. (We are budget travelers.)

We felt like royalty the whole time we were at Cuna del Angel. The staff was overly friendly , helpful (they speak just about every language), and accommodating. The grounds are simply stunning/beautiful. They sit on about 30 acres of private land and have access to a private beach down on the bay at the Pacific Ocean. The whole place is uniquely designed (read the story on their website), very upscale and perhaps trendy, but extremely comfortable and welcoming.

We began by eating lunch in their exceptional restaurant. Eating there provided the tastiest meals while in Costa Rica. We walked the grounds and saw MANY birds, including Chestnut Mandible Toucans, Kiskidee, Summer Tanager, Paserinis Tanager, White Hawk-Eagle, Orange Collared Manekin, Chacalaca, and even heard Howler Monkeys nearby in the morning and evening.

We were escorted to our room by Steven, down some long steps past the deep bubbling pool, into our room named Seraphile (an angel), which was super nice and very large. Well appointed and sparkling clean. High ceilings, balcony with table and chairs facing the gardens, HOT showers, satellite TV. The room was quiet, although the walls are a little thin, you can hear nearby neighbors now and then, but it was not a problem for me (and I'm a light sleeper).

The afternoon was spent at nearby beaches. The hotel is close to every beach from Dominical to Tortuga. We drove to all of them but ended up back at Hermosa Beach, very beautiful, calm waters for swimming. We came back and watched the sunset over the ocean from the deep bubbling pool complete with lovely waterfall.

Dinner was exceptional in the restaurant overlooking the jungle and the Pacific Ocean. The food was incredible, the service exceptional, especially Olma. We had a wonderful chat with the owner, too, who came to visit us at our table.

If you don't have a computer with you, they will let you borrow their laptop and use it in the lobby, which we did after dinner. We took a little walk after dark around their beautiful pool and the grounds.

In the morning, we took a 20 minute walk down the path to the private beach. WOW, it was a great walk complete with wildlife and we had the beaches to ourselves. Two beaches, one side has sand, the other mostly rocks. We started out on the sandy beach and went swimming, saw a few brightly colored fish (wish we had taken our snorkel gear). Walked around on the rocks to the other side. A really beautiful beach.

We walked back up the path to the restaurant to an incredible free hot breakfast buffet. Scrambled eggs, beans and rice, mango, pineapple, watermelon, salami, bacon, cheese, fried plantain, bagels, croissant, cereal, yogurt, coffee, tea, and I'm probably forgetting a lot of other things on the buffet table. Giovanni was there to chat with us and give us ideas for our upcoming trip to Manuel Antonio.

We were sad to leave Cuna del Angel and will definitely return for a longer stay in the future. This hotel would be 5 star in the U.S., and was rated one of the 8 best hotels in Costa Rica for GOOD reason. Our stay was really wonderful, we were treated like royalty by the staff. Cuna del Angel is truly Heaven on Earth.
