My wife and I wanted to get out of the "beach bum" vacation mode and take a real adventure for 2013. We love nature and the outdoors, but we aren't exactly regular campers. After much research, we chose secluded Drake Bay and, after evaluating the available lodging options, selected Casita Corcovado. There's no way we could have selected a better place for us and for our journey! Front to back, we were covered, from the moment we booked (emails and phone calls answering all of our questions to this new location) to the moment we left (helping us with our "idiot" check to make sure we didn't leave anything behind).
The Casita sits in town, and is just a few hops down the road from the beach. Not only were we able to pick and choose (a la carte!) any of the fine tours that are commonly available through the "resort" establishments, we were also able to experience living in Drake Bay as part of the community. It was just what we wanted... and more!
The Casita itself is darling, with 3 bedrooms, a common area, shared bathroom with a hot shower, and a full kitchen. The bedroom was comfortable, and if the humidity is a little much, the bedroom A/C is a great fallback that isn't readily available elsewhere. The covered back patio is a great place to have some time relaxing or listening to the rain. We were the only Casita residents during the entirety of our 6 day stay.
On our stay, we were greeted with a mammoth storm that knocked out the town's power and water for several days. I mention this because it's very worth noting that the Casita has a rainwater backup system, so we were some of the few who retained running water during this time.
The breakfast Jamie concocted each morning was spectacular. Breakfast time was always preceded by a gentle 15-minute wake-up knock, and was always tailored to our day's schedule -- we ate as early as 5:30, and as late as 9:00. Jamie and Craig were also nice enough to cook some of our dinner food with their's on a "BBQ night" when we chose to forgo the fantastic eating establishments that are all easily within walking distance. I should mention as well that, at any time of the day, Jamie and Craig are wonderful conversation companions!
As I hope my wife and I are able to stay at the Casita again in the future, I certainly give my recommendation to Drake Bay travelers -- especially first-timers -- to this wonderful Bed & Breakfast.
