“Great place, nice people but accomodation worse then expected”
Reviewed 27 April 2014

Great place on the nice beach and warm welcome by Mario was a nice promise for our 4 nights stay. But we were bit disapointed by cabin no1 located at the edge of field close to beach . There were about 3 families camping and some others parking cars. It was quite disturbing not only by lost privacy but also by very limited view to the beach. In clean but simple cabin with ceiling fan we missed small fridge where some drinks could be stored.
Otherwise food and service were good . Tea and coffe were available whole day - I wld suggest also availability of at least cold water ....
We had excellent trip to NP Corcovado to Serena range station guided by Esteban. Esteban is a briliant and very dedicated guide and helped us to see a lot of animals including caiman and tapir.
Snorchling at Cano Island was bit disapointment despite Esteban effort. It was too crowdy with other boats and sea was not so clean as it was announced. Shortly speaking - Bit overcharged but place and people are nice.

Room Tip: Cabin 1 and 2 are the closest to the beach but the most affected by the other visitors.

We were booked here for 3 nights. Having parked the car at the Las Vegas Café in Sierpe we were greeted by Mario (Father) & transported by the Corcovado boat up the river and across Drakes Bay to the hotel - a trip that took an hour and a half. We were in room 14 - up 53 steps with a lovely view of the bay. The room has 2 huge glass windows, air conditioning and no curtains! But we loved it. The shower runs cold due to electrical problems, but it didn't matter as it was so hot outside it was nice to cool off. Room was very clean, The food in the Palapa was excellent and cooked fresh by the girls in the kitchen. We asked to join up with 4 others we met on the boat journey for dinner and this was easily arranged. We had 2 tours booked both from the hotel, both were excellent, both conducted by Esteban Santa Maria. He took us out to snorkel and bearing in mind the last experience we had of this was in Galapagos and disastrous, we were determined to try again. Esteban was brilliant , and told us exactly what to do and we were rewarded with unsurpassed views just below the surface of masses of beautiful tropical fish. He prepared a buffet lunch on the beach for everyone, & because we had such a good time the next day he did our tour to the Corcovado National Park where we walked in the Serena Ranger Station area. We saw over 30 different species including 2 Tapir and a Sloth with baby, howler, spider and squirrel monkeys. To the family who own and run Rancho Corcovado - you have a lovely place and it was a privilege to come and stay with you. Thank you.

Room Tip: 14 has air conditioning, is spacious and great views of the bay

Great welcome from the owners Mario and Maria and their family. The food was excellent and the service at the dining room was perfect. The location is great and the beach is beautiful. The bad news is the room. The 2 of us were in room #10 way at the top of the hill. Coming back to the room after dinner was hazardous: almost no lights along the path and stairs and the light bulb outside our room was not working and not repaired during our 4 days stay. The room was small, crowded with 3 beds (1 double and 2 twins), no A/C, just a portable fan. We couldn't sleep because of the heat accumulated all day in the room. One day, we did not have water for a couple of hours just coming back from a tour, in need of a shower before dinner. Finally, the tours to Corcovado Park and Cano Island were great.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms 8, 9 and 10 located at the top of the hill.

We stayed here the last five days of a 14 day visit in Bahia Drake. We had room 14 which had a superior view of the bay, refreshing air-conditioning, very clean accommodations, cold showers due to an electrical problem. Roger organizes room bookings, tours, taxis and payment before you leave. His father Mario greets people throughout the day he is a very nice man. They have a big kitchen, friendly ladies in there, excellent but expensive food. Great dining hall under a tall round palapa. There is always hot coffee, hot water and tea in the center of the room. Mid day they usually had some cake in there too. Wifi only in the dining palapa, also the chairs are padded and their boat has padded benches too if you have been here before you know that is nice. This is a large property with many rooms and probably several price points from tent camping on up. Guests are seated at their own tables, if you want to chat with others at dinner you have to make an effort to sit together.

Room Tip: Room 14 has a great view and air-conditioning.

Rancho Corcovado was recommended to us when the hotel we historically stayed at in Drake Bay was not available. It was a good suggestion, and we had a very nice stay.

Our room (#1) was very clean, had warm water for showering, and a good overhead fan. Soap and towels were provided.

The owners Maria and Mario were very friendly and helpful, and assisted in scheduling a water taxi for us. Meals were simple, healthy, and good. Many nice plants, trees, and birds on the property, which is directly on the ocean.

The atmosphere was very quiet, most of the guests kept to themselves and did not mingle. We generally enjoy conversation (shared dinner tables, etc) but the other travelers seemed happiest dining and sitting alone. Oh well!

In general, it was a good value and we will likely stay there again in the future.

I thoroughly enjoyed staying here for an entire week, and Drake Bay in general. Rancho Corcovado is unique in every way. It's an old place with a lot of history, I'm sure. RIght on the beach, really great staff, really great cooks, and everyone really enjoying themselves.

I've been to Drake Bay several times, but this was my first time staying at Hotel Rancho Corcovado. It was wonderful. It is right on the beach, and the sound of the ocean surrounding you is wonderful. The food is great, and they were very accommodating to our vegetarian diets. I love coconut water, so they made sure they always had some for me. Everyone at the hotel, from owners to staff, was absolutely kind and helpful. From now on, this will be my hotel of choice! Like everything in Drake Bay, the rooms are basic, not very private, but clean
