Ricardo has a wonderful tour set up for tourists that want a little adventure. We did a 3 hour tour with our 11, 9 & 7 yr olds. You have to go on this tour, you will love it. We even spotted monkeys while canoeing back down the river. Your kids should be swimmers to really enjoy this tour. There are cliffs to jump off and giant spiders to observe. This was our favorite day and most memorable by far, of our time in Drake Bay.

One of my favorite days. The snorkeling was not as spectacular as Cano Island but no jellyfish and still nice. Gorgeous beach, fun walk..

I love spending a day or going overnight to visit ricardo at Rio claro for a conoe ride up the river. Bring some food and he will provide tents and everything so you can sleep by the side of the ocean and if its turtle season, go watch the sea turtles nest on the beach at night!!>.. Night creatures are about and it is one relaxing sleep!!.. spend your day touring the waterfalls, floating down the river under the canopy...seeing a variety of birds, monkeys or other animals coming to the riverbed. And when you have enough of that amazing river, head over to San Josecito and relax on the most gorgeous beach in costa rica! .. ricardo provides you with coffee, tea, cookies and can do lunch need be! the gracious host lends you his kitchen and takes you in as if your home is his.
Dont head to drake bay without checking out ricardos tours at rio claro!!!!

We did the long hike from Drake Bay with kids age 10 and 13 and we all LOVED IT!! Amazing walk, very hot. When we got to Rio Claro Ricardo was wonderful, served coffee and cookies, water and offered boogie boards and surfboards to try out. We went up the river with guide and had a wonderful adventure. It was a combo boat, hike/swim. Very adventurous and beautiful. All to ourselves too. Charge was $15/pp. Well worth it. Guide did not speak English though so be prepared to speak Spanish or do a lot of gesturing :) Pack plenty of food/water for this hike.

I live in Drake Bay and run a small B&B. All my guests I highly recomend they hike themselves 2 hours to Rio Claro and do the tour with Ricardo. He rows you up the river, you hike up a waterfall and can swim in the lagoon... This tour is the most relaxing, magic, peaceful of all the tours we offer here in Drake Bay area! Ricardo lives in a romantic hut on the beach already more than 20 years, he is protecting the turtle nests every year and makes beautiful jewlery out of natural materials. He only charges $15 for a 2.5 hour tour.
