If you want to get off the beaten path away from the tourists to see the real beauty and splendor of Costa Rica, you need to stay at Copa de Arbol! From arriving by boat to eating by candlelight you really feel like you are in another world! I really expected to see dinosaurs roaming about the secluded jungle or pterodactyls flying above the coconut trees. It if weren’t for the WI-FI you would feel totally off the grid.

My husband and I stayed for 4 days in July to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary and we loved every minute! This resort is clearly a labor of love. Every detail is closely managed by one of the owners at any given time. Jay was there with his adorable son and was always around to point out exotic birds or friendly conversation. Angel and Johnny went out of their way to make us feel welcome. They even helped get my lost luggage delivered from San Jose after I tried for 4 days with no luck. Orlando and Ronny took great care of us at every meal and their service was second to none. The chef even prepared delicious vegetarian options for us at every meal. The nature guides, Jose and Mauricio, are delightful, extremely knowledgeable and clearly love their jobs! They really made our snorkel trip and jungle hike fun and entertaining and we learned so much about the native wildlife from them.

Some of the wildlife we saw during our stay were howler monkeys, white faced capuchin monkeys, spider monkeys, toucans, parrots, scarlet macaws, bottlenose dolphins, humpback whales, reef sharks, eagle rays, puffer fish, blue morpho butterflies and giant crocodiles!

We stayed #9 Balsa with a perfect ocean view. The AC was a welcome respite from the evening humidity but it was comfortable to sit on the porch as well. It was so relaxing to listen to the waves crashing against the shore, watch the afternoon rain or see toucans and monkeys playing the trees. The grounds are absolutely stunning! The giant and exotic flowers and lush landscaping are truly gorgeous. Every time of day the resort was peaceful and serene.

On our last night, Jay arranged for private candlelit dinner in the loft above the dining room. It was truly a perfect ending to a magical experience we will never forget!

Room Tip: The Balsa cabin has a great view of the ocean and is very quiet!

Our inspiration for creating Copa De Arbol came from a strong desire to share the Osa peninsula and all it has to offer with others. Our guest’s satisfaction is our highest priority. We are very proud of our staff and the enthusiasm and love for the area that so many of our guests have recognized and commented on in the reviews here. Thank you for visiting us. It was nice to meet you both. Come back soon!!

I have been to Costa Rica many times, and have travelled pretty much the entire country, but our recent trip to the Osa and our stay at Cope de Arbol was one of the most wonderful experiences I have ever had. Of course the location can not be beat in terms of beauty, remoteness and wildlife, but combining that with the exceptional service, facilities and food that Copa provides is something that I feel privileged to have experienced. We did a fantastic hike with Mauricio to an amazing waterfall that we swam under and then on to an stunning beach for our pick up. Along the way the wildlife encounters and learning experiences were beyond description. I do recommend flying to Drake Bay not only for the extra time but also the wonderful views of Costa Rica from the air.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at Copa De Arbol with everyone here on Trip Advisor. We really appreciate it. I agree that flying into Drake is a great option to get here quicker, but I would also highly recommend flying into Palmar Sur and taking the hour boat ride on one of our private boats to start your trip with a tour down the Sierpe River mangrove estuary system which is the largest in central America and a favorite among our guests!

We loved Copa de Arbol. Private, accessible only by boat, small, only 8 cabins and luxurious.
This is a family run business where you are treated like family. Every morning there was fresh baked cinnamon bread and sticky buns. Every afternoon homemade cookies and of course the always delicious Costa Rican coffee waiting for you in the main lodge at the end of all the many exhilarating activities provided by the resort. Meals were excellent, very authentic and locally supplied. Even without doing any excursions, the wild life comes to you. White faced monkeys greet you from the trees. Toucans fly among the branches of the trees on the property. During a two week vacation to Costa Rica and four different properties while touring the country, this was by far our favorite and most memorable. We will return!

Costa Rica is such a beautiful country to visit. We are happy to have earned your choice as the best of four places you stayed. We are family run and are happy that many guests quickly feel like a part of the Copa family. Thanks from us all. We hope to see you back soon.

Hard to say what we appreciated the most here; the amazing location, the 5star service i.e. discreetness, helpfulness and kindliness of every single employee, the delicious and abundant food, the highly educated and trained local guides (specially Maurizio who is PHD in Marine Biology), they made our tours unforgettable (we have seen more in 3 tours with them than during a month else where in Costa Rica, worth every penny).
The only down size in this hotel is the feeling you get when you leave, knowing you will have to wait until your next visit to enjoy this unique piece of paradise.

Tips: try to book bungalows 1 and 2 their a bit more expensive but 100 times forth the price.

Room Tip: Premium bungalow 1 and 2 are worth the extra money

In my opinion, the Osa is by far the best place in Costa Rica. I saw more wildlife on my first day on the Osa than I did in years of traveling all through Mexico and Central America, so I am not surprised you saw more here in three days than the rest of your month long visit to Costa Rica. OI felt overwhelmed by the sensory overload, like I had stepped by in time. The Osa is a living museum, a remnant of what once was abundant throughout tropical America. Thank you from all our staff for your kind comments. We can't wait for your return.

We spent 7 days at Copa de Arbol and loved every minute of it. We loved our tree house with the views of the ocean and nature all around. We scheduled many of the adventures such as snorkeling, zip lining, Corcovado park, and fishing. They were all great in their own way and would recommend them all!! I really enjoyed the tour guide and his wealth of knowledge about Costa Rica and all of the wildlife. As for the food, it was outstanding with the freshness and simplicity!! My husband and I liked the dining upstairs with the monkeys, thunderstorms and beautiful calm mornings. I would have to say the best part of Copa de Arbol is the staff!! They are all so attentive, kind, and friendly. Overall, I highly recommend this romantic, luxurious and stunning hotel and look forward to our return sometime in the near future!!

We are glad you enjoyed your stay here at Copa De Arbol. Our entire staff takes pride in their work and all share a common bond, a love for the Osa Peninsula. Guests often comment that they come as guests and leave as part of the extended Copa family. Welcome to the family. We hope to see you back soon.

We stayed 5 outstanding nights at Copa de Arbol around June 17, 2013. My husband and I had unit #9, very private with great views, however, there is no bad view anywhere. Each day we were entertained by White Face Monkies, Toucans and a parade of other exotic animals. The snorkeling, hiking and all of the many adventures were fantastic. The best part of our experience was the FOOD. Great Chef Miguel makes everything fresh from scratch, nothing is from a box, ask for a cooking lesson. The entire staff became family. This is the BEST private, quiet, romantic, luxurious hotel we have ever stayed at. Bring good water shoes, a camera and pack very light.

Room Tip: All rooms are great and have AC, very clean all face an ocean view with lots of tress

Chef Miguel has spoiled me rotten. After eating the food he prepares with such great care and attention to detail everyday, other restaurants are usually a disappointment. Being the best private, romantic, luxurious hotel you stayed at is what our staff strives to achieve. Nothing is more rewarding than knowing we met, or better yet, exceeded our guest's expectations. Thank you for sharing and spreading the word!

Spent 4 nights here around July 4th. Largely lucky with weather, didn't stop any of our planned activities. Scuba had reasonable visibility and saw plenty of large fish, reef shark and sting rays close up at Cano island. I did get a few stings from small Jelly fish and recommend a full body wet suit when they are present.
Food was good and they look after you. Beach at front of hotel was small but water was nice and it was quiet.
It was more expensive than I would usually spend but it was a special occasion and I don't regret spending the extra.
