Biodiversity is wonderful, but it can be challenging to appreciate it without proper recuperation. Copa De Arbol is simply the best, most luxurious choice for gathering your energy up to see all that Osa Peninsula has to offer.

My family and I had one of our greatest vacations ever. We did side trips -- Sirena ranger station in Corcovado twice, Cano island, and a night hike but we saw almost as much wildlife at the hotel as we did on the trips. We were woken up by howler monkeys, scarlet macaws, toucans, as well as the occasional torrential thunderstorm. We went in the rainy season, but rains usually came at night or late afternoon and didn't impact our trips.

The food is excellent, the staff is excellent, the biology guides Mauricio and Jose were excellent. Our room, Mango was perfect for us as a family of four as it was right by the dining area and a short walk down to the beach.

My youngest daughter (and now probable future marine biologist) was ecstatic to see young dolphins playing in front of our boat and sea turtles on the snorkeling trip. A short list of what we saw in 5 days: tapirs, peccaries, boa constrictors, basilisk lizards, iguanas, oriole snake, brown racer snake, glass frogs, capuchins, squirrel monkeys, spider monkeys, howler monkeys, scarlet macaws, parrots, parakeets, ibis, boobies, trogons, hummingbirds, crabs, caymans, crocodiles, stingrays, barracuda, and lots of interesting insects like glass winged butterflies and blue morphos.

I highly recommend flying in to Palma Sur and taking the longer boat ride to the hotel, as you'll see exquisite mangrove wetland wildlife (ospreys, iguanas, crocodiles, caymans, macaws). I also recommend the hike to Sirena ranger station.

We also stayed in Tabacon Hot Springs in Arenal Volcano area, but honestly we would have been happy just to extend our time at Copa De Arbol.

Many thanks to everyone from Summer to Orlando to Julieta to Jay and Mike for making our vacation a treasure.

Room Tip: Room #2, Mango, was perfect for our kids -- right next to dining but we had howler monkeys, sloths...

Thanks for taking the time to post this informative review. I agree that the best way to arrive at Copa is via the Sierpe River; which is the largest intact mangrove estuary system in Central America. It is not well known like Corcovado National Park, but I feel it’s equally impressive and would be a shame to miss. Before we opened, I always looked forward to having families with children visit. My hope was and is that being exposed to something as magical as the Osa Peninsula would inspire young minds to realize that the world still has plenty of wild places worth saving. I can’t tell you in words how good it feels to know the impact that a visit can have on someone, especially a young mind. The future doesn’t always look so bright, but a visit to the Osa creates hope and can provide all the inspiration a young person needs to choose a path that leads them to becoming a future biologist/conservationist. I really enjoyed your energy and passion for the area. It was great to see all the amazing photos you took! Thanks for sharing them. You put a lot of effort into capturing those images. I can’t believe how heavy that lens of yours was; you are like a cross between an athlete and a photographer and the results you get speak for themselves. We hope to see you all again. Thanks for being a part of our dream!

We loved every minute of our stay at Copa…five-star service and accommodations while being in the middle of the jungle with abundant wildlife and genuine and lovely people!

I was first impressed with the fact that the restaurant catered to my dietary issues of being a vegetarian and unable to tolerate gluten. It’s difficult and I am always nervous about it whenever I go out, but the chef and Orlando, the head waiter, made sure it was followed and made me feel comfortable about it. The chef even made special packed lunches for the tours, gluten free bread and cookies just for me! Thanks guys!!

The food was excellent. Very fresh and obviously homemade and authentic ingredients, down to the decadent chocolate on the ice cream and true sour cream! (We were smelling homemade bread and cookies while sitting at the pool!) The constant fresh fruit was incredible. We are disappointed to have to come home and eat grocery store pineapple ;)

The guides were knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Jose went to great lengths to make sure that we saw many different types of animals and answered all of our questions with great patience and a smile. Our teenage kids were awed at the tapir, spider monkeys (with a baby on her back!), sloth, snake, dolphins and birds. The tours included plenty of water, towels, and packed meals. They even provided shoes and clothing to protect us from the mud, sun and rain. We had to do nothing but show up!

All the staff was always friendly and helpful. We felt so pampered! They stopped at nothing to make sure we felt as if we were the only guests. It was made very clear to us if we needed anything, we could just ask. Julietta was charming and we appreciated her passion for saving the environment. Loved the smiles of the boat crew and the friendly faces all around! Thanks to all for making our stay the best in service.

The rooms were elegant, airy and light-filled…loved the teak floors. The grounds were very well done, gorgeous plants, beautiful and well-maintained pool. Pictures do not do it justice!

We appreciate the lengths that the resort takes to make sure that they are respecting and sustaining the environment. Costa Rica itself is the destination of a lifetime, but Copa de Arbol made the experience truly incredible! Thanks to all the wonderful and genuinely sweet people that made our vacation a dream. (We were also so happy to be able to be there during the World Cup and see the excitement and celebrations of an entire country after two wins!)

Pura vida!

I can’t thank you enough for taking the time to share what you experienced while here at Copa. Orlando, Miguel and the rest of our staff take a tremendous amount of pride in what they do. We have many guests with all types of dietary restrictions. Chef Miguel loves catering to different diets and surprising people with his creativity. Many times in the past, he has introduced people to recipes and meals that have suited their diets that they didn’t even know about. Many guests still contact him with questions about recipes or options for their particular diets. I am always pleased to see guests and staff form lasting friendships long after they have returned home. Thank you for choosing Copa De Arbol and trusting us with your time.

My friend and I stayed here last month for two nights and had an amazing time, the only problem was our stay wasn't long enough! This was my first time in the Osa and it lived up to my expectations. The resort is incredible, the cabins are impeccably finished and furnished. The pool, grounds and beach are beautiful. Every meal was cooked to perfection and we loved having some white faced monkey visitors at lunch time. The staff was great, they made us feel totally comfortable and right at home. We took a tour into Corcovado National Park and were lucky enough to have the park almost to ourselves. We saw all different kinds of wildlife in the park and had dolphins playing in the wake of our boat on the way back. A completely unforgettable experience all around! Thanks guys!

The Osa Peninsula more often than not, greatly exceeds peoples’ expectations. It’s the kind of place that pictures and words can’t truly describe, you have to see and feel it to really believe it actually exists on this planet. To me it has it all and the minute I arrived for the first time 22 years ago I knew I found the place for me. Thanks for sharing and come back soon…Samara’s not that far away.

We stayed here in January 2014 for four nights. We stayed in the Coco hut, close to the ocean so the sounds of the jungle and ocean either lull you to sleep or keep you awake! Room was new, clean and spacious. Not five star luxury but given the remoteness of the lodge and their goal to be green, understandable. The boat trip down the river out to sea was a very unique way to arrive and the location right on the water was special.

We did the Corcovado station tour which was amazing, crocodiles, tapir, all kinds of monkeys, toucans, macaws and nearly interaction with the feral pigs which Im glad we missed. A must do tour while you are there and beautiful to cruise the coastline of the Osa peninsula on your way to and from. Mauricio was our guide for all activities and was a pro at spotting and identifying even very hidden animals. Cano island snorkeling was a bit underwhelming due to poor visibility, but the trip to the island was fun, saw pods of dolphins and the water was very warm. I would also recommend the night hike into the jungle.

The food was also very good, especially the early evening snacks like fresh made sushi. Hopefully you or your resort friends have gone deep sea fishing so that the catch of the day get cooked for dinner. We had fresh Wahoo, Mahi, green jack, and snapper. Fun to see the fish carried off the boat hours before dinner. The communal dining area is beautiful and was a great spot to relax and swap stories with the other guests and staff. Jay and Mike, the owners were ever present and interested in your experience, always giving tips on hikes and excursions.

Highly recommended and we will definitely try to come back here again! Location is tranquil, great food, nice rooms and very fun excursions. Staff was very friendly, especially Henry and the chief host during our stay.

It’s very rewarding to provide our guests with the type of experiences you describe in your review. It’s a shame to hear that your island trip wasn’t so good, its one of my favorite places to visit. Cano Island is recognized as a close second to Cocos Island for people hoping to see a great variety and concentration of large pelagic species. At times, the water is not as clear as you might find in a place like Tahiti (for example). This is a result of currents carrying plankton rich waters from ever changing directions. These nutrient rich currents provide the basis of a healthy food chain and the rare chance to observe sea life now gone from other parts of the world. It’s also know as a marine mammal convergence zone where sightings of whales and dolphins is quite common. We are very thankful you chose Copa De Arbol and hope you come back soon.

Memorable trip!
Dream location, comfortable accommodations, good food, great activities, Corcovado park is beyond amazing.
But above all, the reception by the owners Mike and Jay and their staff is second to none. Attentive yet discret, warm and sincere. The wonderful guides Jose and Mauricio, are unbelievably caring and knowledgeable, the restaurant staff Orlando and co is superb! Julieta the new manager is a gem. This place doesn't feel like a business, but more like sharing a place with friends.
We will go back!

When you come to Copa De Arbol, you are visiting our home. Most of the staff and I live here year round. We see and treat each guest as a friend visiting our home. The motivation to build the hotel came from the desire to share what we love with others. When you come to Copa De Arbol, you are participating in our dream and you become a part of it. Thank you from all your friends here at Copa!

Our family vacation to Costa Rica was truly a trip of a lifetime! We've always wanted to see the rainforest and this very last minute trip was perfect. After traveling south for many hours, (we started our trip in Monteverde) we finally ended up in the beautiful Copa De Arbol Rainforest Resort, it was like living in paradise! We were instantly charmed by Mike, Jay and their friendly staff as we stepped off the boat onto the beach (the fun boat ride through the mangroves, then ocean was very cool, something we did not expect- Stephen our guide was quite the expert & our captain spotted lots of dolphins!) then we got the sand rinsed off of our feet which was a nice touch-thank you Randall. The fresh coconut water was delicious! It's truly a quite secluded, magnificant, and exotic place, all the sounds, the birds, the ocean and the lush rainforest views were amazing. Eating in the open air style - teak wood restaurant was so beautiful and relaxing, as well as our #5 Palm cabana, it was so unique, had a Balinese flair to it and very comfortable,(AC was nice) we really loved staying there, it exceeded all of our expectations. Loved the fresh/catch of the day seafood, tropical fruits, and drinks, the service was excellent! We enjoyed all the flowers, the beautiful pool, as well as swimming in the ocean, hiking, snorkeling, (Jose did a marvelous job pointing out all the fishes, turtles, flora & fauna including the elusive tapir, so glad we wore rubber boots) and even some paddleboarding, it was a blast! We can't believe that you all live there, what a life!

It’s nice when people notice little details. We try very hard to provide a total immersion type experience here at Copa, and offering cold “agua de pipa” straight from the coconut is part of that. The Osa peninsula is more than just wildlife and nature. We feel it is important to expose people to the local culture and regional foods or fruits that they would never have a chance to try at home (right now its mammon chino). Our hope is that our guests get a true feel for the area, even beyond the well-known biodiversity it has to offer. Thank you for sharing here on Trip Advisor. We hope to see you back soon.

This was our last stop on a 10-day trip to Costa Rica and we definitely feel like we saved the best for last. The area in and unto to itself is amazing and Mike and his staff at the Copa de Arbol make it even better. The wet landings on the beach are really quite unique and reinforce the fact that you truly are in a secluded and natural area. From the moment we hit the beach, the service from the staff was excellent. From our orientation at check-in, to an unexpected - and welcomed - late breakfast (the granola here is fantastic by the way) to the attentive wait staff at the pool (the Sangria is most excellent), we never felt neglected. The accommodations were top-notch and extremely comfortable. You could relax on your porch or swing in one of the hammocks while taking in the nature around you. Jose led us on a snorkeling trip to Cano and went out of his way to make it worthwhile, even though we were dodging thunderstorms that morning and the water was a little murky from the rain the night before. There were only a few of us who wanted to snorkel in the deeper water and he had no problem obliging. Mauricio, who is a marine biologist by the way, led us on an all-day hike to Corcovado National Park. While you never know what flora and fauna you'll actually see on these types of trips, he, too, went out of his way to make sure we saw as much wildlife as possible. He even slogged through grasses and heavy underbrush to find a giant tapir resting in the shade. He was informative, flexible and very personable. He even came back by the pool after a long day to show us two toucans that had flown into a nearby tree. I also can't say enough about the food during our stay. Although it was mostly a fixed menu that changed each day, the staff always made it a point to ask if we were okay with the choices. There were always several options for breakfast. The preparation was always simple, made with fresh ingredients and delicious - and always more than we could eat. Everything that we would expect at home - living on the beach ourselves. We loved leaving our shoes off for dinner and inside our villa. Again, it reminded us of home. The staff was always, always accessible (without being in your face) - all you had to do was ring the bell if no one was actually at the front desk. They all made sure we knew where we were going (there are terrific hikes right from the resort) and knew what to bring with us for our excursions and were even flexible for some late-arriving guests with the departure times. You're on vacation after all! After a somewhat mediocre experience at our previous resort, the El Silencio Lodge, we were so happy and relieved to have had the good fortune of visiting Copa de Arbol. I only hope the word doesn't get out too fast. We'll be back - rest assured.

Room Tip: We stayed in Cacao. It had a view of the ocean and was convenient to the pool and the main lodge. It...
