“Lovely and remote”
Reviewed 19 December 2013

We booked one of their superior rooms. The room was very basic with no frills. Two queen sized beds with a floor and ceiling fan. We had plastic screens instead of windows. We alwaays had lots of hot water. The walls between the guest rooms did not go completely up to the ceiling, so we could hear everything that our neighbors were saying. There is no cross breeze in the rooms so it gets extremely hot in them during the day. The staff are very helpful and friendly. We chose the meal plan, so we didn't have to worry about trekking down the beach for our meals. The food was excellent. Drake Bay is close by, about 3/4 mile down the beach and up the hill. This is a beautiful hotel but needs more loungers/hammocks to enable their guests to relax. Monkeys visited us a couple of times while we were sitting outside our rooms. The scuba diving is ok, but because of Pacific currents, the viz was not great and the jelly fish were out in full force for all 3 days that we dove. Free WiFi is available in the room but not in the main areas.

I stayed in Jinetes for three days. Its been a highlight of my trip. The staff is highly accommodating, very friendly and personable. The atmosphere is warm and relaxing. I took a boat from sierpe to drake bay and flew out of drake bay on the way back - hotel staff will help you organize all of it - i did not have to worry about logistics at all.
The food at the hotel is great, I enjoyed all of it. Rooms are clean, hot showers (which feels really nice after any water activity). The bar at the hotel is open after dinner and its a nice place to stay and chat.
I highly recommend staying at jinetes. If you would plan on tours - the best ones I enjoyed every bit of are Snorkeling tour, Night tour (Also called "bug tour") and tubing down the river with Aaron. I am very thankful to them for making my trip so unforgettable.
I would come back to this place.

Jinetes Hotel was a wonderful surprise in many ways. The location, staff and food were incredible. They offer all sorts of tour packages right from the hotel and their guides are very knowledgeable. The rooms are sparse but meet your basic necessities. When I tour a remote location, I am more interested in going out and exploring than sitting around my hotel room. If you do just want to chill, there is a nice common area with seating and hammocks which overlooks Drake Bay. One day a pack of monkeys (about 20) came to visit and it was pretty amazing. Definitely bring your own toiletries. I also recommend a flashlight (headlamp), rain poncho, flashlight & water shoes.

Room Tip: It is worth it to pay a little bit more for the superior rooms. When arranging transportation from...

I stayed 5 days and enjoyed the calm and was able to disconnect from work routine, but without been cut out from internet.
Yes, you may get a wet landing, even if you fly to Bahia Drake, as you have to cross a little creek that may be swollen due to strong rains, but the whole idea of arriving into Bahia Drake is to get close to nature. Even the start of the trip is interesting, as there are only small planes capable of landing in this airfield, so you begin to get the idea since boarding the plane. Once you land your taxi is a Landrover that has to cross a river which was part of the joy of visiting the area.
The staff of the hotel is very friendly and I can't remember any complaint about their service and willingness to help you.
The meals were really tasty and so plentiful, I was getting suspicious that it was the witch from Hansel& Gretel trying to fatten us. At the beginning having a very fixed and limited time for meals didn't appeal to me, but the times are perfect so you can enjoy the activities and go to bed early, after the first night I got into the rhythm and had no problem with sleep, my only wish was for a harder pillow.

I went scuba diving to Isla del Caño 2 days and despite not having good visibility due to the rainy season I had a very enjoyable experience, being very close to white tip Sharks was the highlight of my trip. Our divemaster, Ivan, was very knowledgable of the area and personalized our immersion event-ough we had a couple newbies in the water.

The second highlight was the visit to Corcovado's Sirena ranger station, the wildlife is in good condition and it was impressive to see so many different species in the jungle. The guide is a very important part of this trips as he was able to identify the animals by their sound and also locate a hard to see sloth, that otherwise I would have never been able to recognize.

This type of vacation is not for the one looking towards luxury, you need to know that visiting the jungle presents some minor inconveniences, but you don't need necessarily to sleep in a tent and shower with cold water in a river, the hotels in Bahia Drake are a good point in between.

Took the family to Jinetes de Osa and fell in love with the area! The hotel was a great value. Had a home-like atmosphere and the staff was very attentive to all our needs. The hotel is situated on the edge of the rain forest and there are a lot of outdoor adventures for everyone! The fresh catch of the day was served up and the food was fantastic! Diving and zip-lining were awesome! We will definitely go back again!

This was without doubt one of the highlights of our trip! This place has a small family feel to it and you get to know all of the staff and tour guides well. The rooms are great an give you the amazing lullaby of rainforest bugs and frogs alongside crashing waves. There are a lot of scheduled trips which are very well run with local knowledgable guides and they are also happy to accommodate other tours and trips. The whole time you are there you are made to feel like of of the group and welcome. The food was fantastic and local. It is the perfect place to find both relaxation and adventure with a great viewing area over looking the bay to sip a cocktail in a hammock and a lovely walk to a nearby beach to while away an afternoon. hey run trips for snorkelling and diving as well as visits into the national park which provide excellent viewing opportunities for larger mammals. Without doubt would recommend anyone travelling down to the pacific coast to stay here!

Ivan greeted us from the speedboat, when we landed in Drake Bay. He carried our cases over the rocks, and then on to the hotel.

From the minute that we stepped on the premises, we were made to feel welcome, comfortable and valued.

All of our food was provided, and it was great. For evening meals, we were served fish, beef stroganoff, and a chicken lasagne. Every portion was more than enough, delicious, and came with salad and rice. We received ice cream, cheesecake, and toffee cake for deserts.

Breakfasts were excellent as well. Eggs made to order (I had mine scrambled, with ham and cheese) were delicious.

If you organise trips through the hotel the starts are early, but there is always a big thermos of coffee waiting for you outside the hotel room for the minute you wake up. A really charming touch, that started the day off brilliantly.

Rooms are spotless, and the bathroom was big, with a hot shower. Perfect for after a long hike in the jungle :)

One piece of advice - REMEMBER to take sea sickness pils with you. These are very important. My father was very ill on the journey to our snorkel, which could have been avoided had we thought to bring the tablets.

A brilliant stay. Patrick the manager/owner (?) runs a very tight ship.

Room Tip: REMEMBER ear plugs and sea sickness tablets. They are both crucial.
