We stayed at Las Caletas for three nights in late August 2013 (I would recommend to stay at least 3 nights - possibly much longer because there is so much to see and do).
It is a stunning place, set on a little hill but only 2 minutes walking down the property to the beach. We stayed in one of the cottages which were very neat, clean and had comfortable beds. The bathrooms offered shampoo, shower gel and conditioner.
From the lodge you can view the entire bay - it is simply breathtaking. Around the property you will be able to see lots of different animals from monkeys to parrots and of course watching whales passing by Drake Bay. Likewise there will be plenty of insects: You are in Costa Rica and if you are expecting to see Tapirs and Sloths then do not be suprised if there are insects too. I do not understand the point of other reviews complaining about bugs.
Included in the price were three meals as well as coffee, cake and cookies throughout the day. The meals were absolutely delicious and we never ever left hungry.
We loved every minute of our stay and the entire lodge had a very warm and welcoming feel to it. The owner David, guide Jose as well as the rest of the team were super!! Thanks so much for the amazing time we had!

My husband and I did a 13 day trip to Costa Rica ending with Las Caletas. It was so cool having the take a plane, then a boat to arrive at this secluded destination. We were met by David the owner and he was very nice, he bought us a bottle of wine for our honemoon! We didn't have much planned while we were there since we were winding down from our previous river rafting adventure. We did go see the Corcovado rain forest with Jose who was awesome and we did some snorkeling too. We were a little shocked about the price of snorkeling $80 per person seemed too high for us.

The bungalow was all the way at the top which was nice to be away and have our own bathroom. The food was delicious! The breakfast a bit routine and simple and one day for lunch all we had was vegetables, not enough to last until 6:30 for dinner. We stayed for 5 days 4 nights the sheets were never changed. Thank god for bug nets because there was a huge spider on the net one night and lots of little moths.

Great place for meeting new people too!

This is the most biologically diverse place on the planet and I'm happy to say that we saw so much wildlife right outside our tent - the birds, howler monkeys, white faced capuchins, etc. Las Caletas has carved out only what is necessary for humans and the jungle to coexist and it is wonderful! It had been 10 years since I was last in CR and I was so relieved that Las Caletas and the surrounding area was not too touristy - lots of jungle and no paved walkways/handrails/dirt bikes etc like other areas have become.

The staff/owners/guides were very happy and nice, and were like family by the end of the week. The food was delicious (maybe small by North American standards but totally satisfying). The dining room is set up so all guests eat together at one long table, which seemed strange at first, but it allowed for really nice interactions with people from around the world. We stayed in one of their tents for 7 nights, which was perfect for us (although late night walks to the bathroom probably wouldn't be for my mother). We brought our 6.5 month old baby and he loved it - the heat, the wildlife, the trees, etc. Our trip/night in Corcovado National Park was the cherry on top by adding a lot more wildlife viewed (including snakes!).

Getting there from San Jose is easy (even with a baby) and is part of the adventure on its own.

Spectacular and I truly hope that nothing will change in the next ten years (no international airport).

Room Tip: Glamping in any of the tents, in my opinion, is the only way to see Costa Rica.

My husband and I found ourselves at Las Caletas based on the recommendation of another traveler. The experience, from begin to end, was absolutely magical! We arrived by boat to the isolated piece of Costa Rican heaven (Las Caletas beach), where our wonderful host awaited for us and helped us with our luggage to our tent. Arrangements were made for our tour into Corcovado and suggestions were made for things to do on our own. The lodging and accommodations were absolutely comfortable and the meals, served family style, were delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed the company of the other guests; it was lovely exchanging stories and experiences over dinner. It felt that everything was executed with warmth, thought and care. My husband and I had intended to stay for only a few days but extended our stay twice - we were very lucky that there was space. This remote region is a very special and sacred. The landscape, abundant wilderness and the local people were beautiful and enriching. When we look back, we mostly reflect and think on our experiences in the Osa.

Las Caletas was our base for exploring the Osa. We loved staying at small lodge, where our Tico host arranged for beautiful tours to Cocorvado, Cano Island, and pointed us in the right direction for exploring more on our own. All the delicious meals were served family style, and the other guests only added to our enjoyment. Our room was the honeymoon suite at the top of the hill, so excellent for birding.
Finally, we want to note that all power here is hydro or solar, and the environmental ethic is real and enduring.

Room Tip: top of the hill honeymoon suite is mot just for newlyweds but there are many stairs

Las Caletas is wonderful. Flawless, as far as we were concerned.

We stayed in the "Tureca," a little cabin off to the side, kind of in the rainforest. It was comfortable and quiet (aside from the birds and frogs outside) and private.

The meals were great, especially dinner. Three courses of excellent food, every night. Breakfast consists of fruit, toast, and cereal, but they'll also make you eggs, however you like them. We had mostly packed lunches, because we were away on tours during the day.

The ground are spectacular, and you can see an incredible amount of wildlife just hanging around the lodge: hummingbirds, parakeets, macaws, toucans, tanagers, agoutis, monkeys, et cetera.

David was a great host, and the staff was nice, courteous, and all those good things.

The tours were wonderful, especially the trip to La Sirena (in Corcovado), on which we saw a ridiculous amount of wildlife. It was like being in a zoo, except a lot less contrived. Carlos was an excellent guide. We learned a lot from him.

Great place overall.

My husband and I spent 6 nights at Las Caletas. We appreciate very much everything about it ! Beautiful setting, all wooden, simple and natural buildings, on a top of a small hill right by a small bay to swim (2 min walk from the lodge), very clean and well arranged with care and thought, comfortable beds, very good food, great service. Definitely worth the money. Great atmosphere in the place : warm and caring staff, light, easygoing, friendly, calm and healthy spirit. Also done with ecological conscousmess. They can tell you about it (among things they provide biodegradable soap, shampoo and conditioner, don't bring any), Small and beautiful !

It was easy to organize all aspects of organizing our stay thru emails, thanks to Jolanda, the co-owner, who was very kind and helpful, very clear and precise.

Nature is so abundant, so alive, it's grounding, enlivening! Going to bed early and waking up with a symphony of sounds with the sunset, a great way of resting and resourcing! Bring binoculars for each person ! We learned so much in a fun and casual way with Jose the excellent guide and the two David. Even though we love to hang out by ourselves in the forest, it's definietly worthed to go for Corcovado Park excursions and night walk with Jose. Because everything, animals, plants, were so exotic and new ! We met so many animals and from so close ! We would'nt have observed as much on our own. Jose is great, passionate, generous. We also very much appreciate David who attended our needs in many ways and accompanied us in the night walk. We are no so much into water sports so we didn't mind that at that time of the year, snorkeling is not the best (water is too agitated), we just swam for fun and refresching on the beach by the hotel and others along the coast nearby.

We enjoyed very much staying in one the tent. It is like luxury camping. A simple and confortable bedroom in a big tent all protected from mosquitos and rain.We were there mid march, so with hot weather (33 C daytime), and there was always a feeling of the breeze of the ocean at night so we had very good sleep. If you like more privacy ask for the tent located right by the wood on the left side when you're facing the main building, The other ones are more exposed to people passing by, although there's not a lot of people around. I think there's a maximum of 20 guests in the hotel.

We all eat together on a long table which allowed us to connect easily with other guests and the staff. Food is very good and plenty. The pictures on their website don't honor the quality of their meals. Excellent natural fruit juice, homemade pastries, nice veggies. They were also very accomodating for special requests regarding food for example vegetarian diet or intolerance to milk products and would offer nice substitutes. Fruits were plenty for breakfast. The only thing I missed was more fruit and avocado at lunch time or for snacks. If you go somewhere during the day, they would provide sandwichs and beverage, it's tasty and does the job but personnaly I missed some fresh veggies or fruits to go with it.

So enjoy Las Caletas!
