What a wonderful find!! I had been living Pana for six weeks when my boyfriend came for a visit I decided to find a quieter location. Casa Rosa was the place! The hotel grounds are beautiful and the rooms are cozy and well priced. We loved every minute. We meant to stay only three nights but extended our trip an extra four nights. We have no complaints. Rosa the owner is wonderful and so sweet. When we come back to the lake we would definitely stay here again!! :)

I was excited to stay at Casa Rosa because at double the price we were paying at Mikaso in San Pedro I was expecting more... while the location is in a very pretty setting on Lake Atitlan, to the right of the main dock, I had several issues overall with our stay.
1. There was a scorpion in our shower when I went to wash my face (no hot water in the sink). A little disconcerting, but I do realize we are in a remote location so it didn't bother me too much... but still. Yuck. Good think I didn't actually STEP into the shower to meet the little guy.
2. Service was good at the restaurant but amazingly slow. Probably 45 minutes to cook eggs for two people, and there were maybe 6 other people in the restaurant (which is actually outdoor tables near the Lake)
3. Overall cleanliness. Our bungalow room had a lot of cobwebs, and it was clear that the floor mat in the bathroom had not been washed which was incredibly gross. I wore socks in the room that I threw out.
4. The property is pretty and has a lot of plants and paths, but it is kind of overgrown and could use some major landscaping, not just young and old women sweeping the paths.

The outdoor spaces close to the Lake are very pretty, and at night it is also nice, however they "close" the bar around 9 pm even though there were people sitting outside finishing drinks.

Options are definitely limited in Santa Cruz so this is probably better than the hostel, but for what we were paying I expected more - service, cleanliness, etc.

This hotel is a great option to relax. It takes 20 minutes by boat from Panajachel to Santa Cruz. The best of the hotel is the great view of the lake Atitlan. It has also beautiful gardens and the staff is VERY friendly. There is a restaurant with good food and drinks and you can admire from here the beautiful sunsets!

I've stayed at Casa Rosa last week with my mom. The house is located on a beautiful surrounding, just next to vulcanoes and very close to the lake, like Lagarto verde, Isla verde and many other hotels. The owners are totally careles of the place, that in my opinión is even dangerous: all the wooden especially on the pier is half broken and the way form the public boat Little harbour is quite acrobatic. For a 30y.o. person Works, but i can assure that my mother, even if she's sportie, was confortless there. The rooms are dirty; my linen were dirty, there were thousand of mosquitos and the actitude of the owner and her daughter was far to be nice. Again a dirty and careless place in a beautiful surrounding.

Room Tip: Try to avoid this place, there's a big offer on the lake, just choose any other

We had been staying in a hostel in Antigua, and we were looking for something out of town and away from the backpacker crowd. La Casa Rosa was perfect! Santa Cruz is a 20 minute lancha ride from Panajachel, and it is a very small lakeside village. La Casa Rosa is right on the lake at the bottom of the hill, very near the boat dock and the small road up the hill and into town. Staying there in the end of October, which is the off season in this part of the world, we were the only guests for three of the four nights we were there, and only one other room was filled for the other night. The hotel consists of two detached bungalows, and a larger building with rooms and a dining area. We stayed in one of the rooms, which was clean, comfortable, and had a nice view of the volcanoes across the lake over the very lush garden between the building and the lakeside. The property also has a kitchen, bar, and dining area right on the lake, with comfortable seats for sitting and watching the water while you eat or have a drink. It is quiet and peaceful, and we enjoyed hours of sitting and soaking up the scenery while we ate, chatted with other travelers, read, and enjoyed a glass of wine.

I have to note that this is a five-star review for what this hotel is...a small, family run, inexpensive B&B. If you are looking for an upscale five-star experience, you will not be satisfied. The rooms are clean and comfortable, but not elegant. The gardens are lush, but a bit overgrown. The food is good, but dinner choices consist of basically different forms of spaghetti or Thai curry and rice, which is a bit odd for the region. The owner has a young daughter, and it is obvious that a child lives on the property. None of this is bad, but it is not an upscale resort experience. Also, being there at the end of the down season, things just needed a little bit of spit and polish, which was in the process of being done while we were there, but the place wasn't yet ready for the onset of the high season. And, it's in Guatemala...you will probably find bugs and spiders around, although I don't remember seeing any...but we live in the jungle in Belize, and tend not to even notice them.

If you arrive with appropriate expectations, you will love this place. We did!

We stayed here in Feb 2012, and it was fantastic. We arrived in Santa Cruz and took a wander around, and found this hidden gem. Sipping a drink on the veranda, looking over the lake was amazing, and we checked straight out of our initial accommodation and straight in to Casa Rosa. Our room was basic, but clean and nice, and our host couldn't have been more accommodating.

Whether you want a base to use whilst you discover the other parts of the island, or just want some time to relax and enjoy the view, we would both recommend Casa Rosa. The food is lovely too, and you can sit out over the water on the comfy seats, so there really is no reason to leave.
