“Clean, friendly, beautiful hotel set in desert town ”
Reviewed 8 July 2014 via mobile

I've now stayed in 3 of the 4 hotels in Tuba City and this is, by far, the nicest and most friendly! Very clean, large room, decorated beautifully in Southwest Native American art and colors. It's located on a tiny plot of Hopi land separate from the larger reservation section. The Hopi reservation is on one corner of Tuba City and the Navajo reservation is on the other. The Hopi tribe are very friendly and the entire staff was helpful! Breakfast was ordinary hotel fare, all American! We did expect fry bread! Also, they hold $50 deposit on your credit card in case you break their rules of no smoking, no pets, no drinking and for incidentals. It is refunded on check out.

The building stands out - cannot miss it. From its unique modern design and Native American theme and color decor, it is an attractive location. The entry way and lobby make you feel you are staying at a very expensive hotel -- which you are not. You'll obviously pay more than a Quality Inn but you'll appreciate it. They have rooms that have doors which open directly to the pool on the first floor. They also have rooms with a balcony. The areas adjoining the wings are set aside for rest/reading areas with couches and chairs you can relax in. The room decor is well coordinated and modern. The pool is outdoors but on a typical hot day, it is nice. In the evening, folks seem to hang out around the spa and enjoy the night ski. No laundry available. Three odd items: 1) The small vent fan in the restroom never turns off - close the bathroom door and you cannot hear it; 2) Despite its modern look, the WiFi connection is spotty at best, even after midnight; 3) It is relatively open such that you can walk from Denny's next door to the pool to the inside of the hotel without swiping your room key. Lastly, regarding breakfast, consider Denny's directly next door (30 seconds away) or Sonics across the street (1 minute away) or McDonald's ( 1min away). The dining area is nice and comfortable, but besides the soggy scrambled eggs and cream of wheat, there is not much left to really enjoy except perhaps the prepackaged cereal boxes. Coffee was too light. More modest hotels do a much better job. Overall it is a nice place that is very clean and comfortable and somewhat luxurious.

From check in to check out the experience was pleasant and relaxing. The entire staff was friendly and accommodating. We stayed for three nights and four days. The relaxing décor was well thought out and of the Native American design. The room was large, the bed comfortable and the bathroom roomy. There were historical photos on the walls throughout the hotel. We checked in right behind a large bus full of kids and their chaperones but the hotel was quiet and we did not hear the kids once. The breakfast had a nice selection and the only thing we could fault the hotel for was when the kids descended upon the breakfast area they ate everything in site (literally), which left some of the juices, fruit, muffins, etc. gone for other guests. The hotel probably plans for breakfast according to how many rooms are rented. Perhaps the one that planned the breakfast did not know there were probably 4 hungry teens and pre-teens in each room. We suspect a lot of what was eaten was because there was the novelty of making your own waffles, pancakes, and using the hot chocolate machines (yes, in 90 degree heat), etc. The bottom line however is that we were not that inconvenienced and we certainly were not going to let it ruin our day. The Navaho Cultural Center across the street, the short 45 minute drive to the Grand Canyon and the Trading Post at Cameron made this hotel the perfect spot. We would certainly stay here again.

We were traveling through Arizona on our way to Denver for a family memorial. When we were in Flagstaff refueling, I started looking for our evening's lodging. I saw an recommendation for Moenkopi Legacy Inn. It looked inviting and they had rooms available. I booked it immediately. We were pleasantly surprised and had a very welcoming stay at the Inn. The rooms were large and well kept. The grounds are landscaped beautifully. Everything is well taken care of and we would book another stay if we are in the area. There are no pets allowed and their policy of no alcohol is fairly unusual. There is a "fine" for violating the policy. However, it is explained in detail when you check in. Fair enough.....

Room Tip: Continental Breakfast + is included with your room charge. There is no formal restaurant or coffee...

The choices in Tuba City are quite limited. The Moenkopi property was a pleasant find. We walked in on a Saturday night without a reservation and were able to get a room at a very fair price. The modern room was quite large. The pool and spa area were nice as well. The front desk staff clearly explained their alcohol policy upon check in (basically, no alcohol is allowed anywhere on the property). The complimentary breakfast featured eggs, sausage, cereal, and bagels. Nothing fancy but certainly ample. This property is only about 45 minutes to the entrance to the Grand Canyon.

Room Tip: This is a three-level property.

My wife and daughters are traveling by car from California and had made plans to stay at this hotel. While they were on the road, they asked me to call for them and cancel the reservation because they were behind schedule and would not able to make it to Tuba City this evening. I called and simply asked for them to cancel the room without a charge and the clerk said, "you would have to have a good reason"! After I mentioned, again, that my family would not be able to make it to Tuba this evening. He replied, "it is our policy to charge without a 48 hour notice to cancel". I believe this to be unreasonable and not acceptable. When talking to the clerk on the phone, I could hear the assistant manger laughing in the background in response to my request and the comments made by the clerk regarding my request to the assistant manager. I am thankful that my wife and daughters did not make it to the hotel, as their attitude would not lend me to believe they would receive professional service or be safe in their stay at this hotel, especially without me being there.

Room Tip: Not professional; Rude on the phone

Driving back from monument valley we stopped in kayenta first to look for a hotel. They were way overpriced so I kept driving. And I'm glad I did this place was amazing. The room had a door that opens strait to the pool. And Denny's restaurant is right next door.
