“Grand in size but without Luxury it's just an expensive motel”
Reviewed 29 August 2014

Prices for rooms in the Grand Canyon area are high because of the market demand. What you get from The Grand Hotel, is a large motel with a restaurant/bar attached. The rooms themselves are large, comfortable, with a desk, a long counter with a modern coffee machine, tub shower, good towels. The beds were comfortable with large firm pillows, and a flat screen TV with some Spanish channels but mostly the usual USA English language ones. The drive to the Grand Canyon Park is short and within 15 minutes. There are facilities to do your laundry, and shops nearby for necessities. The restaurant was acceptable but will be reviewed elsewhere. Breakfast was strangely not well attended but reasonable in its offering. Parking and WiFi are free. Nearby is an IMAX theatre with an introduction to the Canyon shown several times a day and night. All in all the Grand is a pleasant place to stay, and the staff are most polite, friendly and helpful. I was told that the town of Tusayan is owned by three families who continue to improve the little village there. Our two nights were comfortable enough.

Room Tip: Our room 330 had a large balcony overlooking the entrance to the hotel. It was quiet and roomy. The...

From my research before our holiday it seemed like this was a good option to stay in for when the actual Park is full. And I think it is. Hotel is clean and has big bedrooms. Small indoor pool which is great for the kids to cool off in at the end of the day. Free wifi and good sized balconies attached to the bedrooms. Good sized bathrooms too.

Park entrance is a 5 min drive from Tusayan and there are a few restaurant options in town. Plus wide elk walking around!

Lobby has lots of animal heads on the wall and a big fire... all adds to the ambiance somewhat which they are trying to create at this large 'lodge'

My husband booked this hotel through the National Park Service website. It is run by Xanterra, the company that runs many, if not all of the hotels in the park. We thought the price was high but expected a high end hotel based on the photos we saw. Especially the lobby. The lobby looked very nice and rustic. We didn't look at the Trip Advisor reviews until we were there our second night. I'm gla we didn't or I would have been nervous to stay here. The good: reception staff were nice, they have a great gift shop, the bed was comfortable, the wifi in the room worked good, and I thought the linens were fine. The bad: we had to pay extra for a room with a balcony, the hotel has one of the loudest ventilation systems I've ever heard (I'm a light sleeper), the ice machine on our floor was broken, the towels were low end and worn, and the bathtub didn't drain. I agree with a previous reviewer that for this price, they should include a small refrigerator in the room. There is no outside area other than a small area behind the pool. Very plain and unappealing and you have to listen to the pool pump so it's noisy even though it's at the back of the hotel. That's why we paid extra to get a balcony room so we could have a place to sit outside. The cost doesn't justify the rooms or amenities. I'm glad I didn't try the hotel restaurant and won't before I leave. It sounds sad.

Room Tip: If you want a balcony you pay extra and they come only with rooms with queen beds, no king beds

Hotel room good slept well although some pillows and sheets had yellow stains on them; they smelt clean however.
The restaurant was not good with half an hour before they even took the drinks order. The food was just ok but nothing special. My NY Strip steak had a layer of fat around it although on the menu it did say that it would be hand trimmed!
Reception staff were excellent and can't fault. The lobby was attractive with a rustic and cosy feel
A little over priced I think!

We stayed in the Grand hotel for 1 night and the room was OK, though quite overpriced from my POV.
The largest downside was the restaurant, that offered a good food with a looong waiting time.
The most disappointing it has been in the morning, when it took 15 minutes for the waitress to take our order, and than another 10 to bring a hot drink for our daughter. The food came in about 20 minutes and it was just a bit warm, that is not my understanding of fried eggs with bacon, so I had to send it back to be heated up. The waitress, when I complained, went like "Oh, yeah..OK..." No even pretending to be concerned.
All in all the breakfast consisting of fried eggs and yougut took nearly 1 hour

This hotel is way overpriced for the quality! Rooms are in desperate need of an update! Towels and washcloths are a dingy white, old and frayed, one towel had a hard black something on it and the washcloth was stained. The shower curtain liner was stained as well. There is no microwave or mini fridge, which is expected these days, especially at this cost. Had I read other reviews ahead of time I would have avoided the Not so Grand Hotel. I reserved this hotel through the National Park website via email, I suggest doing your research first! Wish I had!

The staff at the front desk and in the restaurant were nice, also the lobby is large with a fireplace.
The hotel is dirty. The carpets are filthy, the rooms are dark with stained furniture upholstry and the bed & bath linens were a dingy grey. It was not a comfortable stay. There are several other hotels right in the same area and sight unseen, they had to be less expensive and cleaner than The Grand Hotel.
